Game: D&D 5e. Homebrewed High Fantasy. Semi-gritty realism. Group type: Online. Currently utilising DnD Beyond (DM shared resources to players), Discord and Owlbear Rodeo.
Experience: Open to all experience levels, new and willing to learn, through to veterans.
Location/Timezone: AUSTRALIAN EST.
Schedule: Weekly commitment. 8pm Tuesday or Wednesday nights, tbc.
Possible flexibility for other weeknights if needed, and if it doesn’t clash with others’ schedules or the other group I run. We aim to login around 7.30pm for any pre-game discussion or tinkering needed prior to game start. Discord used for communication/planning between sessions if needed.
Roughly 3-hour sessions. Session may be shorter or run a little over time depending on what is happening in game. We try to end at a logical narrative point where possible. Combat can sometimes run things overtime but rarely.
Hope to start as soon as possible.
Roles sought: Players. Completely new group to explore this homebrew world. 3-6 players. 4 is Optimal. Mature players preferred due to mature themes in the campaign. Welcome to all who wish to give it a go and think this may be for you, you're welcome to apply.
Table etiquette and rules will be discussed in session zero, however the basics include be respectful, and no tolerance for bullying, sexism, racism, misogyny/misandry or other antisocial and toxic behaviours. We're here to have fun, not make others uncomfortable.
Best suited to Storyteller, and Problem Solver type players who love exploring and interacting with the world around them and enjoying the dice unfold the story for better or worse. Backstory can be simple or rich, exciting, or bland, traumatic or happy. Either way your character’s life will be fully inserted into the world. I can assist with a background scaffold if needed, it doesn’t need to be super detailed, however your PC will have NPC connections from the start and their backstory will be incorporated into the campaign for the whole group to explore. Map and basic world lore will be provided to help you create and insert your character into the world. We flesh this out over Discord. Some races may require DM input to justify their presence in the world, more niche races may be denied. Some monstrous races (orc, goblin, hobgoblin etc.) are allowed but may face interesting NPC interactions depending on world location. More details supplied in world overview file on Discord.
Roleplay:This game is open to players who may not be confident with ‘acting’, as well as those who love to. As such, players should be OK to play with people who may not be as comfortable putting on a voice and vice versa. PCs are encouraged to at least ‘talk as their character’ and use first person descriptions when interacting with fellow PCs and NPCs. Combat does occur, usually at least once a session or more during dungeon crawls, however depending on the location some sessions may be entirely roleplay and some encounters may be too deadly and require alternative approaches to combat. As such, this campaign may not be as suited to players who primarily enjoy more “hack and slash” type campaigns and prioritise min-maxing (nothing wrong with optimising your character, however it will not be the focus of the campaign and story can become just as interesting if you try to work with a low stat or two so this should be kept in mind when deciding if this suits you).
Game Style and details: Narrative driven homebrew high fantasy. Milestone levelling and level 1 start.
Uses select WoTC and Critical Role content as well as homebrew. Some rules are homebrewed (such as cats having dark vision, and some monstrosities considered ‘beasts’ if made of entirely ‘beast’ parts such as griffins).
The game uses some of the variant/optional rules such as: Feats, Multi-classing allowed with narrative/in-game justification and if Ability Score pre-reqs are met, Flanking, Bonus Action to consume a Healing potion, Massive Damage (homebrewed version), Exhaustion on overcasting and for multiple 0hp due to damage before long rest, Overcasting, Max Crit Hits, Lingering Injuries, Crit Failures, Slow Natural Healing (slight homebrewed version) etc. Elaboration and Q&A on this in session zero or Discord chat.
Some mature themes can be covered in the campaign, however session zero will outline if there are any topics we will steer clear of. Generally speaking, SA is usually a no go unless vaguely hinted at for an NPC backstory or if an NPC is being a creep for hook purposes.
I have been running this current world setting with another group for a little over a year, however the world itself is almost 20 years old from when I first created it in school with my brother, so it is rich in lore and locations to explore. I took roughly 10 years break from DnD and wargaming and got back into it last year, so I have a background of older editions and came back into it with 5th edition. The other group currently playing this world is separate from this new one I am wanting to put together; so if this suits you, you'll be starting this as your own adventure from the start.

Hi there! This game and your DMing style sounds absolutely perfect for me. Really hoping we can chat more to see if I'd be a good fit.
Where are you located? Finland - I'm Canadian, so fluent in English, and the time works well for me (I converted to check). Preferred pronouns: she/her Experience: Fairly experienced. I've played for a year and a half now in 10-15 campaigns & minis, and I've DMed my own homebrew games for a year (one still ongoing since Dec 2021.). What is you usual weeknight availability for a weekly campaign like this? I couldn't make it if you choose Tuesday because I'm DMing during that time, but Wednesday would be perfect! I could also make Thursday or Friday at the same time if the group needed. What possible type of race do you have an interest in playing for this campaign? I usually pick race depending on my class (not from a min-maxing perspective)and depending on what backstory I go with. Backstory comes first when I get inspiration hearing more about the setting - race and class come after. I do tend to prefer more humanoid or human-like races, though, because I find it easier to fully inhabit and connect with my character. What type of class/multi-class combo would you like to play for this campaign? Honestly, I am very open. I still have plenty of races and classes I would love to try out or revisit more thoroughly, but I normally wait and see what the party needs. I also prefer to hear more about the world & setting and see where my inspiration takes me. Story comes first for me. I do lean toward spellcasters, however. I probably won't play a barbarian or a monk since I already currently play a monk and have played a couple barbarians, and while they're fun enough, they're definitely not my favourite. What is a favourite memory from a game? For over a year now, I've played a circle of stars druid who lived alone in the woods for 16 years after a very traumatic upbringing in a wealthy home, causing her to flee and a bounty to be put on her return. She found herself in a dark forest avoided by people due to the city ruins lying within that emanated dark magic that she has learned to live with - that magic, however, has now been spreading and threatening even her chance at staying there. She was left with no choice but to do something, but instead of just running away somewhere else and continuing to live in isolation and self-loathing, she decided to finally move forward and atone for some of her past mistakes. With the player party (who she just joined a few sessions late as they were heading to the ruins and seeking information), they infiltrated the ruins, and my druid got the killing blow on the big bad. She cried (as did I) and said "I'm sorry" while she saw the image of someone from her past as she consumed the enemy in radiant energy. It was incredibly powerful, and it was the character development push she needed to be like "maybe I CAN actually do something and make up for some of the pain I've caused by making some positive change instead of just sitting in pity." She has been trying to learn what the world is like and turn her way of thinking around since - she recently learned how to gamble, although she doesn't really understand it! What type of playstyle do you think best describes you? RP-oriented (still love combat!). Stay true to my character, even if it's not the smartest decision. Take turns sharing the spotlight. Tell a story together. Which race/class did you have the most fun playing? I love my druid for the versatility. I tend to lean toward spellcasters - I've played a monk and a couple barbarians, but I don't find them as engaging. What do you find interests you the most in gameplay? Is there anything that you find 'switches you off'?I LOVE combat. Happy to fight every session (also happy to go sessions without any). However, when every combat feels the same, it starts to get a little stale. Like, if every combat is just an open map without any terrain or objects to interact with or use to our advantage, that can start to feel a little old. But, to be clear, I'm not super picky and have only ever experienced that problem once before.
Hi there! Thanks for the response. Sounds like this campaign may be perfect for you. I have sent you a private message with the Discord link if you would like to read more on the world lore and chat with me further :)
Hi, I'm an Aussie in Melbourne, he/him, and am available on Tuesday Nights. I've been playing for about 8 months now, so I don't have a lot of experience but do have a solid grasp on the rules and way to play. I love story-driven games that balance combat/social/exploration in a 40/30/30. The only parts that might "switch" me off is if a shopping stop takes the whole 3-4 hour session. I would like to delve into playing a warlock, but am open to other roles to give new players preference.
My first character was a half-orc Barbarian named Bernard. A fond memory I had of playing him was close to the beginning of the campaign where we were fighting a BBEG in a rocky cliff area with gaps that fell 60ft. My character was dashing from rock to rock to try and cut off the fleeing goliath we were fighting. I eventually reached them and tried to keep them occupied from fleeing while the rest of the group were healing a downed player and catching up. The goliath managed to knock me to zero hp, the DM was about to continue onto the next turn, but anolther player reminded us that I had relentless endurance, I stood back up and pushed the goliath off the boulder we were standing on. they took fall damage. It was great.
I also had alot of fun with some jokes I was able to form within the group. My barbarian and the monk player had low intelligence yet we were always paired up to search for clues, and roleplay.
I'm also DMing for another game on Wednesday nights so I wouldn't be able to attend then. Feel free to message me about any questions or follow ups.
Hey guys, my names Jesse, I'm 35 and this sounds perfect for me.

What is you usual weeknight availability for a weekly campaign like this? I'll be available any night.
What possible type of race do you have an interest in playing for this campaign? I would be happy to make a character based on what race you felt was most suitable for the campaign, or happy to use the one I just created.
What type of class/multi-class combo would you like to play for this campaign? I was interested in being a Paladin/folk hero soldier.
Thanks for the consideration, I'm really excited to finally be able to start playing DnD, I've wanted to play for years.
Preferred pronouns:he/him Experience: Dm'd a campaign but would love to be a player What is your usual weeknight availability for a weekly campaign like this? Mon-Fri What possible type of race do you have an interest in playing for this campaign? I'm keen to play any race but a couple of characters I'm sitting on atm are a Firbolg, Halfling and a Tortle. What type of class/multi-class combo would you like to play for this campaign? happy to play any class but currently keen on barbarians, bards and druids
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED BEFORE What is a favourite memory from a game? When DMing a LMoP campaign, I had a player request to join after a few sessions. Everyone knew that we were getting a 5th but they had no idea about the character or how they would be introduced. I brought them in at the tail end of an intense battle and they were able to tip the balance back towards the players at a time that two of them were unconscious. The looks on everyone's faces were priceless but then when they found out he was a cleric they all went wild. It was great fun.
What type of playstyle do you think best describes you? Not having been a player before, I don't know for sure, but I like to think I'll be a fair and generous player.
Which race/class did you have the most fun playing? Haven't been a player before so no real experience in that sense
What do you find interests you the most in gameplay? Is there anything that you find 'switches you off'? A well-balanced game is what I'd be most keen on. Story punctuated by battles, puzzles and roleplay would be the kind of gameplay I'm after.
Where are you located? new zealand. 2 hours ahead. Preferred pronouns: he/him Experience: watched some games and and played a little bit. have used 5e charactar sheet. What is you usual weeknight availability for a weekly campaign like this? any exept tuesday What possible type of race do you have an interest in playing for this campaign? im open too anything What type of class/multi-class combo would you like to play for this campaign? as i said im open to anything FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED BEFORE What type of playstyle do you think best describes you? casual roleplay Which race/class did you have the most fun playing? druid What do you find interests you the most in gameplay? everything I love D&D
Appreciate the opportunity, thanks for posting here.
Where are you located? USA, East Coast, retired so daytime play is not a problem.
Preferred pronouns: He/him Experience: Been playing since '78, started with the DnD basic boxed set, moved to AD&D for several years, Traveller, ITL, Runequest, Champions, Warhammer Fantasy, GURPS, DND 3e, 5e What is you usual weeknight availability for a weekly campaign like this? Sunday thru Friday What possible type of race do you have an interest in playing for this campaign? Typically human, occasionally half or full elf, rarely a dwarf or halfling What type of class/multi-class combo would you like to play for this campaign? Fighters have always been my first choice, steel over spells FTW! Rangers and rarely a rogue are sometimes fun FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED BEFORE What is a favourite memory from a game? My memories reside more in the folks I played alongside than the games themselves What type of playstyle do you think best describes you? Story driven as opposed to rules driven Which race/class did you have the most fun playing? Elf fighter What do you find interests you the most in gameplay? Is there anything that you find 'switches you off'? [Too much combat; too little; political drama; intrigue; getting loot; getting pets or interesting mounts or vehicles; playing through other player's backstories etc.] a DM that is invested in creating a narrative the party engages with, intra-party strife is my bane
Where are you located? South Korea so an hour behind AEST
Preferred pronouns: She/Her
Experience: I’ve been playing for about ten months. I watch a lot of D20. I am currently in two campaigns with two different groups on discord over the weekend. They are both somewhat serious and playful. I wouldn’t call myself extremely experienced but I have a good grasp on basic rules. I am working on my own homebrew one shot as well.
What is your usual weeknight availability for a weekly campaign like this? I just moved here so I have yet to make any long-term weekly commitments so my availability is open for Tuesday or Wednesday. I get home from work mid-afternoon so it wouldn’t be hard for me to be on time, if not early.
What possible type of race do you have an interest in playing for this campaign? Not a very solid idea yet. If possible, I will go off the MoM stats but entirely set on a particular race yet.
What type of class/multi-class combo would you like to play for this campaign? I was thinking fighter because I haven’t played one in while. I do tend to multiclass but that really depends on the story I want to tell. Fighter or rouge. FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED BEFORE What is a favorite memory from a game? That is so hard! However, I was in a battle royal one shot with a half rouge who was almost killed off in the first round but she got saved by the boots of elven kind I had last minute picked as one of the magic items and she ended up delivering the killing blow to the demon that had trapped them. So much fun.
What type of playstyle do you think best describes you? Just always trying my best cause I often get lost and don’t know what’s going on. I just like to be as useful as possible in whatever area I think my character can be the most help. I like to my characters interesting and fun. So, I do tend to add to their backstories as time goes on. Whether or not it will be important to the actual story, is up to the DM but I add it anyway.
Which race/class did you have the most fun playing? I am currently having fun with my cleric/barbarian. My DM and I came up with some fun flavor ideas for how her power look and work and the DM gave me some homebrewed stuff which makes it even more fun to play. Her overall story is very fun to me as well. What do you find interests you the most in gameplay? Is there anything that you find 'switches you off'? I think I most enjoy romances, if I’m being honest. Every campaign so far, I have had some kind of romance. I don’t need a romance to be interested, it just happens to work out that way. However, I don’t have much that uninterests me or switches me off. As long as the story is fun and engaging, I will be interested. I guess, if the party isn’t actually getting along, that would be kind of weird to play with. Combat is a weird one. If I can’t do anything of value in a fight then I don’t like it but I tend to fix that with multiclassing so I can do more stuff if I feel like I need to.
Thanks for reading! Hope to play with you! I have been really hoping to find something in or close to my timezone!
Thank you for taking the time to ask for our involvement. I am 50 and have fond memories of D&D but have not been able to indulge in playing it for a very long time. I would love to reengage with the game. As you can see from my answers below I'd love to play a Shadar Kai Bladesinger or some other related variant. With that said, I am open to all sorts of ideas and ca fit into many party concepts.
Where are you located? Australia/Victoria Preferred pronouns:he/him Experience: I haven't played since the 1980s although I have played games such as Neverwinter Nights and Baldurs Gate on the PC. I have also tried to keep up with the game via YouTube etc. so I have a fair idea of the 5E rules. What is you usual weeknight availability for a weekly campaign like this? Wednesday evenings would work well for me as would some others (I would be unreliable on a Thursday evening). What possible type of race do you have an interest in playing for this campaign? I like the idea of Yuan Ti, Goblins and Gith. However, I always come back to an Elf or Half-Elf in the end. What type of class/multi-class combo would you like to play for this campaign? Wizards have always been my favorite and I would love to try and play a Bladesinger.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED BEFORE What is a favorite memory from a game? Many, many years ago I played an Elven Wizard. He was a most definitely not the LOTR style aloof elf but rather a gregarious and somewhat flippant elf who could poke fun, be a little irresponsible, but useful and loyal when it mattered. What type of playstyle do you think best describes you? I enjoy combat and encounters; I also enjoy the interaction between party members which can sometimes begin as a little strained but grows with camaraderie via teamwork. Which race/class did you have the most fun playing? As mentioned, I have fond memories of my happy go lucky elven wizard. However, I am envisioning a more taciturn version now. A bladesinger, possibly Shadar Kai or Drow/Half-drow could be great fun and as a character could have a little baggage to work through with the help of his party comrades. What do you find interests you the most in gameplay? Is there anything that you find 'switches you off'? I always enjoyed the FR setting so I'd say interactions with characters that brought a rich history with them is enjoyable. I envisage D&D as being medieval mixed of course with fantasy and magic, so to answer the second part of this question, if I have a reservation it is possibly the Spelljammer setting (not that I have read it).
At the moment we have x7 players in our Discord for this new campaign and exploring if this is a fit for them. As such I am considering this temporarily closed and will reopen the offer for another to join if we need to fill out the virtual table. Thankyou!

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED BEFORE
What is a favourite memory from a game?

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED BEFORE
What is a favourite memory from a game? My memories reside more in the folks I played alongside than the games themselves
What type of playstyle do you think best describes you? Story driven as opposed to rules driven
Which race/class did you have the most fun playing? Elf fighter
What do you find interests you the most in gameplay? Is there anything that you find 'switches you off'?
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED BEFORE
What is a favorite memory from a game?
Australia/Victoria
Preferred pronouns: he/him
Experience: I haven't played since the 1980s although I have played games such as Neverwinter Nights and Baldurs Gate on the PC.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED BEFORE
What is a favorite memory from a game?
Cheers and good luck.
At the moment we have x7 players in our Discord for this new campaign and exploring if this is a fit for them. As such I am considering this temporarily closed and will reopen the offer for another to join if we need to fill out the virtual table.
Thankyou!
