Nearly 2000 years ago, the world was a very different place. There was no contact with (or knowledge of) planes beyond this one and this was reflected in the world that existed then. It was a world mostly devoid of magic, populated almost exclusively with humans. Unfortunately, very little is actually known about it because of a cataclysmic event that irrevocably changed the world: the Planar Crash.
During this event, portals to planes beyond this one began opening. Gods, devils, demons, aberrations, and creatures of all kinds were suddenly face-to-face with people that could never have imagined they existed. Some of these portals led to the Elemental Planes which introduced the powerful and sometimes dangerous dragons to this plane. Unfortunately, the people that lived here could not understand the creatures and entities they now faced. As so often happens, their confusion turned to fear, anger, and soon hatred.
Humans started using their meager power to hunt the lesser creatures that poured through the portals, but found this inadequate for the greater ones. They began to seek more and more power as they feared potential subjugation from these beings. In time, they learned how to make pacts with powerful creatures, how to derive power from worship, and more; thus beginning to take back the world. During this time, a cabal of dragon hunters rose to prominence and influence.
They initially feared the potential in the chromatic dragons, as they were overtly evil and greedy creatures and handily united the people of Iodrarune to fight against the planar interlopers. These campaigns eventually grew more and more aggressive and dangerous, so a group of metallic dragons, led by a powerful, wizened silver dragon, created the Watchtower Isle as a sanctuary.
It is still widely believed by that dragons are either myths or extinct, a fact that the remaining dragons generally do what they can to support by remaining in hiding.
Your thoughts shift.
The air feels cold against your skin as the ship pushes through the unseen magical barrier. It's only a brief discomfort, quickly returning to a more clement temperature as the island comes into view. You've heard of magic before, you may have even dabbled in it previously, but this type of magic is new... unfamiliar. To some, it may provoke some anxiety, but for you... it's exciting. It's new. It's unexplored. As the ship slowly approaches the island, you simultaneously take in the geographical features that are prominent while thinking about the reason you came on this journey to begin with.
The Alchademy promises to teach all students who have the desire to learn about magic and alchemy, regardless of any innate talent. Even those without magic prowess often find it rewarding to learn about magic for their own defense. It's inclusivity makes it one of the most exclusive institutions around, as only the people who truly wish to work hard and learn are truly wanted and welcomed in this school. All invitations come with fully paid room, board, and tuition; and when you got yours you knew you were one of only a handful of applicants to be selected from the thousands of hopefuls.
If I still have your attention, you are the type of player we are seeking.
The Alchademy is a D&D 5e discord server. We primarily run drop in/drop out play by post games, because real life comes first. Role play is our life blood, and we want you to help us tell our collective story.

The Alchademy in Iodrarune Do you like to role play? Are you flexible on other things as long as you get to tell a good story and build a good character? Do you find your ability to commit to a weekly game is difficult but your desire to play is still strong? Join our drop in/drop out server of open world d&d 5e game play.
You begin your journey at a prestigious school, learning about the world of Iodrarune, how to make magic items, and building your character’s backstory with others. As you level, you leave the safety of the school confines and start exploring a dangerous world based on the character specific seeds you developed in your time on and off campus. Your role play contribution adds to and alters the world at large in a perpetual cycle of new and continuous plot hooks that multiple DMs can use to build a tailored experience to your character as part of the larger world.
Role play is 85% of our game and we use what you give us to build more story driven arcs that affect not only your character, but the world at large. As a player on our server, you will also be guided and supported in building storylines and encounters for other people to participate in, further building the lore of the world. Mechanics are important (and we have many in place) but the purpose behind them is to drive the story (or at least not distract from it).
We recognize that players have varying availability, time zones, and schedules. Encounters/missions/and mini-campaigns are run with that in mind. The majority of the story driven game play is done play by post(pbp), however both pbp and voice players are welcome. The server is generally aimed at the 18+ crowd, but overall content is expected to be suitable for 15+.
Brand new players start at level 1. You earn levels by creating your character(s) and learning basic game play mechanics before joining the school at level 3. Students can then quickly reach level 5 through a series of self paced quests that go over basic world lore and introduce character interactions on the server. The majority of interactive game play starts at level 5. Multiple characters are allowed and encouraged after level 5.
While play by post is the way the majority of our games are played it is not the only way. We recognize that people have different play styles, availabilities, and preferences in the games that they play and try to accommodate all (as we can). New players and story tellers are always welcome :)
