Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online with a dedicated Discord server and maps, using Roll20 Experience: a few years (both online and in person) Age: 18+ Location/Timezone: Texas, CST (some players are in EST) Schedule: We play every other Saturday (most recent gaming session was on October 8th). Roles sought: 1-2 Players at 7th level in the classes of magic-user and cleric/healer.
We currently have: an elven Ranger, a large centaur Barbarian, a large centaur Artificer, a halfling Rogue (NPC). We also have a hobgoblin wizard, and a halfling cleric. The player who plays the wizard and cleric is still in the game but will be leaving once I have replaced their characters. I would also not mind retiring my NPC rogue, just to free me up to running the rest of the game without one character knowing everything I know.
Game style: I'll be perfectly honest here and state that I am a relatively new Online DM. I have been a DM in the past, long time gone (back in the mid 1980s) and had never used a pre-written campaign before summer of 2021, when we started Storm King's Thunder. So, sometimes I stumble, but have a good existing party which helps me and each other.
The other thing about my style that some might not like is I am not as descriptive of settings as some would expect of a DM. I'm more of "If it's on the map, that's the area of situation" and only give pertinent details to whatever might be happening next. Basically, I like to present players with a scenario and then they tell me what they see/sense.
SKT so far is a lot of hack and slash, with some diplomacy and avoidance of unnecessary fights. I throw in a fair number of random encounters just so that long travel distances aren’t boring to the party and gameplay.
I have no preference for either experienced or newer players. Just keep in mind that because we are further into the game that you will have to come in at 7th level, so I expect your character sheet to show that.
Game-time is 2:00 pm CST on every other Saturday (we just finished the most recent session on October 8th). We then play for about four hours with a short break halfway through.
We use a server I have on Discord (chosen players will get the invites) and our maps come from multiple sources including some I make on Inkarnate.
I use Roll20 now, even though I used to work with AboveVTT until I had major issues with it not working. So, for now, it’s Roll20, and I believe the Beyond20 extension to link to DnD-Beyond’s pages.
It's a fun group, but still serious about playing. The remaining players have developed a good comradery and I expect any new players will meld in with them, depending on one's alignment.
Players come and go sometimes, so I am in need of replacing our wizard and cleric. You don’t have to be a wizard or a cleric exactly, just some kind of magic-user (sorcerer, warlock, wizard) and some kind of healer. I will accept a player doing multi-class, so long as one of the two desired classes is part of their multi-class.
I will allow homebrew with the stipulation that I read it before you choose it and determine if I think it will work in the campaign or be overpowered. There is some good homebrew out there which can make a character that much more fun to play and for interactions with the others.
I hope that isn't too long. Go ahead and ask me questions, and I'll fill in what I can for you.
