Game: D&D 5e (Mild-to-Moderate Homebrew) Group preferred: Online (Text-Based Only) Experience: Any Location/Timezone: (Atlantic UTC -4) Availability: (On-Demand Through Discord) Preferred role: DM / Player Game style: A bit of everything. Room for everyone. Focus on strong Roleplayers and those looking to flex their creativity muscles.
Hey everyone. I am looking at gauging interest in building a collaborative Homebrew Universe within the D&D 5e ruleset. Right now, there are a couple of us in the early stages of building the foundations for campaigns and events to come, and a few novice players getting their feet wet in a campaign set early in the history of the world. To accommodate busy adult lifestyles including considerations for those with young children, we have decided on a Discord Server to host, and we have all so far agreed that it is easier doing everything via text. We find that this also helps with those that want to be roleplayers, but don't like the idea of actually speaking in-character.
So far, pacing seems great, but is obviously dependent on finding blocks of time where people are available to make combat flow quickly - but we've found that we've been able to make more progress piecing the story parts and non-combat/non-dungeon time as a "text-as-you-can" style approach. We use mostly theatre-of-the-mind to describe everything, but we also have a Google Spreadsheet where people can keep track of positioning in battle. Again, we're early in our first campaign as a test environment, but things seem to be running smoothly.
What we'd like to have, is some players and DMs of almost any experience level that don't mind sharing the workload of worldbuilding vs being a character within the world, but at this point, we're more interested in avid roleplayers, and those looking to expand our fledgling universe over a long span of time over anything else. Ideally we would have 1 more DM for now to help us iron out the persistent details of the world we'll be using (So someone eager and excited at the opportunity to get into a creative project like this at ground level) and maybe another 1-2 down the road - even if that is a goal for a much later date. We're also hoping for a small-but-eager pool of players so that we could even grow to have a couple simultaneous campaigns on the go at the same time, paving the way for some collab/crossover events to cover if people are unavailable at times (vacations etc...)
Please feel free to message me or reply to this thread if interested, or if you have questions to help you decide if this project is right for you. We would like to keep the entire atmosphere at a Marvel Cinematic Universe style of laid back attitude. Serious moments but plenty of room for some comic relief. We strive for as diverse a cast in our games and we are happy to take on anyone from any time zone, so it goes without saying that anyone is welcome - but I will admit that we do have a bit of a target demographic. Working adults who try to find the time to be geeks when we can. So far it seems like we have more 30+ year old dads than anyone, but don't let that deter you from showing interest. We'll do our best to keep the Dad Jokes to a minimum.
