The heat of the day beats down upon you. As you traverse the hills of the countryside, thoughts of anticipation enter your mind: "What possibilities might the Grimoire have in store for me? Will I be blessed be able to achieve my dreams? Will it deem me worthy?" As you crest the top of a hill, you can see the evening lights from the city Elise. You readjust your pack; taking a deep breath, you descend the hill towards your hope and fate.
Welcome to The Last Grimoire. This is a game I have been itching to run for quite some time. It is built around the 5e system with some homebrew love. Your characters have set out to the city Elise in hopes to be graced by an ancient tome referred to as The Last Grimoire. Your class and play style are entirely up to your creativity. Rather than rigid classes, people of this world measure up with how well they can home their skills and gifts.
In ancient times, Magic ran rampant. Mages, Kings, and Lords ruled supreme. Most people were at the dreaded whim of these influences with no way to fight back. However, out of the worst of times, the greatest hopes arise. A mage and his comrades formulated a way to confound mortal magic. Storing the secret in his tome, the mage confined the natural powers and spells wielded by mortals. This confinement of magic spread its power evenly amongst all mortals, allowing even the pauper to light his fire or a mason to cool his drink. If one desired, they could study and enhance their skill, but never to an extraordinary degree, at least not on their own.
The mage made tomes, sentient pages that could see into the soul and grant a gift of potential. This allowed the most wealthy or common person to acquire power when needed. These tomes over time have been destroyed by those wishing to reclaim the tyranny magic could give. Upon seeking the final tome, they found it could not be destroyed or removed from its place.
Here in Elise, access to the tome is granted. Four times a year, the cathedral is opened for aspiring and hopeful people to claim a blessing. A desire is spoken, the soul is perceived, and in most cases a small boon, if anything, is given. Uncommon though, you might see someone granted a blessing beyond expectation.
What blessing will your character receive? Come and find out!
