Crosspost(slightly tweaked) from Roll20! Apologies for the incoming long body of text.
What's popping everybody? The name's Cal.
I'm looking to form a small group - not for a single game, mind you - of brave individuals who are willing to stumble through the world of tabletop RPGs with me. I'm talking mainly DnD 5E(which I have a little experience playing) but we can also try out other games down the line if we happen to share a common interest.
For this purpose I require fellow aspiring players and GMs (though I don't mind if you're already game savvy and if you are, please be patient! I just think it'd be more of a bonding experience if each of us could take turns holding the idiot ball) who are interested in the hobby but find pre-existing games and large dispersive servers to be intimidating, preferring to start small. The ideal outcome of this is we all become friends as we share our passion for tabletop and learn how to play these games together - using pre-written adventures, homebrew, you name it! I would like to start out as a player myself, but who knows? I might up end GMing, even! (psst! and even if we don't have a GM we can always look for one together)
Here are the general requirements:
Time zone/s: trickiest subject right here - as of now I live in GMT+1 and I'm busy during most of my day, so I'm usually available to game at night from 9pm onwards, though I can definitely make room for sessions on the weekends at most times, as long as I know in advance. As for the lenght of these eventual sessions, I don't...know. I'll go out on a limb and say about 2 hours. See if that fits your bill.
Number of participants: I personally believe that the 4-7 people range is best, but I'm willing to stretch it up to, say, ten.[NOTE: As of right now there is likely room for 1-5 more people]
Knowledge of the English language: this is essential as it is needed to communicate, either through text, audio or even video if we feel comfortable with it (though I should preface, I at least have no decent webcam option at the moment)
Age: foreseeing how it could get uncomfortable to discuss and/or play out certain situations with minors involved, 18+ are preferred. For reference, I am in the 20-25 age range, but all adults are welcome.
Behavior: this is possibly the most critical point. People aren't always going to get along and there may be disagreements, but this is no one's fault as long as all parties are mindful of each other and keep it civil. I am looking for chill, nice people. Your objective here is to cooperate with others, so if you believe you have the right mindset for that then hop on in. Keep in mind that since most of the applicants will probably be on the inexperienced side, there's a chance it will get frustrating at times; it's okay, it's just games at the end of the day. For this reason I also suggest that you don't take things too seriously.
Patience: yes I know, the behavior section is right above, I just felt like this needed reiterating.
I apologize since this might have ended up sounding a lot more formal and serious than I intended, I want to assure you that's not my goal! I'm trying to establish a "group of friends recently discovered a common interest in tabletop gaming and want to get started" or "meet-and-greet at the DnD night organized by the local game store" kind of vibe, it's just that English isn't my first language, so pretty much anything I write reads like an essay sometimes.
If you'd like to apply, I suppose you could write a little about yourself and how much experience you have with the game(s), whatever you're comfortable with! If you've been accepted I will send you an invite on Discord where we can chat to our hearts' content!
Here's hoping enough of you are interested in this idea.
Hi, 23m here looking for a group for a while now :D name’s Kaz, I’ve got little experience (5 months… ish) with DnD as player and I’d say less in terms of DM’ing (ran few sessions). I’d be happy to join your group as a player/DM.
Hi! This sounds great, I'm currently playing in my first campaign and we're about 3-4 sessions in. So I'd say I'm still pretty new to 5e and tabletop RPGs in general. I'm also in the 20-25 range and looking for new people to play with while getting to know both them and the game. It also sounds really fun getting to both play and GM since I personally am interested in both but feel like it would be easier to try both in that kind of environment where we could pass the idiot ball around.
I Currently live in Japan but I'm moving back to Sweden (GMT +1) in less than a week so time zones shouldn't be a problem either. Since I'm also a non-native English speaker this might have sounded a bit robot-y but I hope I got what I wanted through. :)
Let me know if there's space and I'm invited, and if not, I hope you have fun!
I read over your post and appreciate the thought put into it. I know you mentioned wanting a small group, rather than a server where you get lost in the depersonalization that comes with it, however I have a counter offer if you're willing to entertain me for a moment.
We run a small, cozy west marches server, that heavily leans into pbp RP, while also offering one-shots that tie into that PBP world to people with different timezones and availabilities.
Now, what makes us different to most such WM servers, is that we're not looking to grow past what we can sustain and that includes creating a space where we can solve disagreements like adults (age average is about 25-27, with 18+ being a requirement to join), as well as create bonds of friendship over time.
If this all sounds interesting to you enough to test it out, read over our ad and all the details and leave a message for me in that thread, as well as on discord and we can discuss further. ^^
Hey! My name's Laura and I'm 19, I've been interested in dnd for a while but never been able to play before. I'm EST so for me it wouldn't be a problem, as long as my class schedule for college next semester doesn't mess anything up. My discord is gogogadgetantidepressants#8552.
Hi all, sounds interesting I think. Please invite me to discord if you like: oskar#0136 33years, swedish - limited D&D experience But your idea appeals to me :) Cheers!
Hello, I'm Mans and I'm 22. I have played a homebrew game once but I don’t realy have any of experience as a D&D player. I also live in GMT +1 and I would like to discover this game. My dicord is Ravnica#3331 if you want to add me.
Hi I'm Tegan and I am 22. I've never played dnd before as I don't know anyone interested in playing. I've watched multiple campaigns online and I'm really interested in learning to play and playing my own game. I am available any time after 7pm and weekends. I struggle finding smaller groups that are for beginners because it can get overwhelming in larger groups so this would be perfect.
If you have any questions for me please add me on discord at Tegan#6982
