I’ve been DMing for a few years now and have had a pet project brewing in the back of my mind (and on paper) for a while. Figured I’d throw it here to see if there’s any real player interest since I’d probably need to pull a new group together for it.
Anybody interested in playing in a home-brewed Norse mythology setting? I’m pretty Inspired by Neil Gaiman’s book on the subject, and love the remix to the mythology that God of War has been building. It’s a setting that will give players a chance to play a role in/alter the outcomes of old mythical stories and explore new takes on the Nine Realms and the different gods, with a singular “BBEG”-driven plot sort of looming throughout. The working title is “the Chains of Fenrir.”
I’m imagining this as a longer-form campaign, spanning at least 10-15 milestone levels with a good 50-50 mix of combat and narrative role-play, ideally with 3-5 players prioritizing fulfilling, collaborative story telling rather than min-max, optimized and pristine gameplay. (I’d prefer at least a couple of experienced players, but one or two newer players is always fun as well). I’m open to discussing limited mechanical homebrew. As a DM I try to aim for a good mix of humor and drama, I try to be fair and communicative while not pulling punches or mitigating consequences, and I try to stick to rules-as-written, but am willing to discuss any grey-areas, as well as shortcomings and/or be open to feedback outside the game! We’re just here to have fun and maybe feel some feelings and make some friends.
I’m currently in the U.S., MST timezone, and free in the workday evenings from ~6:00-10:30pm MST, with weekends available as well. Very willing to schedule in regular times depending on player availability, no more frequently than once a week.
I suppose I’d just like to hear if this is something people are interested in, if you are then what about it is the biggest draw for you, if not then why not, as well as any character ideas/questions/clarifications you’d have or want! Feel free to reach out/drop your discord too if you’re interested and actively want to potentially join and we can chat! Thanks and sorry for the long post, just trying to be transparent and genuine!
This sounds amazing since I am also currently playing the new God of war game. My main question would be when you would like to play your campaign. If it would be easier to contact me my discord is shi-chan#5187.
Hey there! I think one of the biggest deciding factors is *when* the sessions happen for most people, especially since we're all from different timezones. ^^
I'm pretty interested in the idea of the campaign from my limited knowledge of God of War, plus I'm generally a fan of Norse mythology in general. I'm also interested in joining the game, my Discord username is MoeKitsune#5531
I would definitely be interested! I have only DM'ed very casual games with friends so I have never really followed strict 5e rules but I want give a proper campaign a try.
I've been through a couple of campaigns now I wouldn't consider myself new to DnD. I'd be interested in joining up and am currently playing God of War so a Norse story sounds like a lot of fun. I'm also flexible in what kind of character to play, playing with casters and melee characters in my past campaigns, so I have most the mechanics down. I currently have another group I'm in but we meet infrequently, usually once a week, so I'm looking to fill that gap. I can play pretty much most weeknights and on the weekends and have a fairly open schedule especially in the Winter and my time zone is US CST.

This sounds amazing. The timezone kills it as an option for me, but I hope you find a great group for this awesome sounding game.
