Game: D&D 5e Group type: Face-to-face Experience: I'm a veteran RP newish to 5th edition. Game is set for brand new players Location/Timezone: Austin TX Near Burnet and Research Central Time zone Schedule: probably Sunday Afternoon at least every 2 weeks but maybe more often Roles sought: Players (adult players need to be attached to a youth player) about 2 more youth would be ideal Game style: casual, with serious focus on roleplay
I am attempting to help my stepson play DnD 5th edition. He is a bright 12 year old who learned about DnD from Community and occasionally hearing me mention my game. I'm an old hat gamer who has been gaming and game mastering when I could since I was 8 almost 40 years go. We both want to focus on roleplay over rules.
I am willing to host and/or run a game though we aren't opposed to joining an existing game if it's fairly low level so we can phase in rules complexity. Please note we have a friendly dog that barks when first meeting people but is loving and a cat that is a stubborn meanie best left alone other than worship from a distance but will leave you alone. Smoke free house. Live near where Burnet Road meets Research in Austin.
If I run the game I will play fairly lite with the rules focusing on having fun over stressing rules and rules understanding. As the game is designed for late preteens or early teens we will avoid moral grey areas. Bad guys will be bad. Evil races will be evil and not just perceived that way. I thought we could start with an adventure taking 2 or 3 sessions just to see if we mesh and fun is being had but with the potential to continue.
Ideal players: at least 2 players in his age range. Total players at least 4 up to 6. Adult players must be connected to one of the young players (parent, older sibling etc). Everyone easy going with the rules. I live by the rule of cool and fun with a dash of realism in my games over the rules as written so there will be a lot of winging and looking it up later. Nonplaying but protective 😃 parent definitely allowed and we'll try to find something to keep you from getting bored.
Not rushing to start just feeling out good matches. Ideal game day Sunday at least every 2 weeks though depending on player needs and schedule maybe every week or 3 weeks a month. Hoping to possibly get together and chat and get to know one another and maybe create characters somewhere neutral (Dragons Lair, etc). We'll private message and sort out specifics.
A bit more about us. He likes the Simpsons, Community and the Bone comic book series. Plays trumpet in his school music group and acts in school activities,, also plays keyboard and loves music in general. I'm a lifetime nerd with broad interests focusing fairly strongly on comic, superheroes, sci-fi and fantasy. I've run dozens of games in dozens of systems including DnD but not since 2nd edition.
