“Oh Waterdeep, sweet Waterdeep! Crown of the North, City of Splendors, cradle of minds, bastion of progress, what will it take for you to accept me? How long must I endure the glamor of the palace proudly towering amidst the alluring luster of the Castle Ward? How much must a man grovel to be graced with but one sunrise walk atop the soothing Cliffside? How humbly must one beg for the blazing ambition and the glistering mirth of the Field of Triumph to bathe his heart? Oh ye golden arches dreaming under the star spangled skies, oh ye azure harbors singing into the morning breeze, oh ye hulking marvels ever watchful over the heirlooms of mortalkind, why must you spurn me so? Why must you tease me with your heavenly magnificence, ever leaving my thirst unquenched and my hunger unsated? What only would I give for another stride of my path so that I could partake of your fruits once more for to witness the staggering heights of glory is never to flinch at even the darkest abyss.”
Did you like this little flavor text? Then hopefully you are at the right address. Whether you are looking for a sink of your free time and creative spirit both, thrilling experiences alongside other like minded individuals or a stage upon which you can become the one you always wished to be, we've got you covered. Noble or an outlaw, thinker or smasher, judge or executioner, there is a place for all at our table, all that are up for a game that is. A game of chance, of fates, of triumphs and falls, of wars and politics, of fame and glory and of course of Dungeons and Dragons. Welcome adventurer and let us get started.
Hello, my name is Jay and I am a dungeon master of a small group of people most of whom met online last February to play in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign together. The first word of the password is Doth. After finishing our first campaign of Curse of Strahd this November some of our players dropped out. For our next campaign starting at the beginning of January next year, we are looking to recruit two more players to bolster our ranks.
When it comes to me I am a 23 year old student who has been playing DnD for almost four years now. I adore putting together complex narratives, weaving intricate plots, designing multi-layered encounters and writing witty dialogues. As long as I've played my focus has been the roleplay aspect of the game and I believe that's what my players enjoy the most as well. The second word of the password is thy. There is nothing more satisfying than setting the stage and watching the play develop as its script slides out of my hand and into that of my players as they take on their chosen roles and dive into their performances. It is this cooperative effort between us roleplayers and worldbuilders, regardless of what side of the DM screen we find ourselves, that I most enjoy about Dungeons and Dragons.
Surely now, after all these flowery phrases, you are wondering what to really expect from the game you may or may not be joining. Each session I set the atmosphere for every encounter and each and every scene. This I achieve through various means - fully voiced non-player characters, custom picked music themes, detailed and immersive descriptions, character portraits and other accompanying art, battle maps, guest player appearances and much more. Incorporation of character story arcs based on character backstories into the campaign narrative is one of my main practices and something I tremendously enjoy doing. The third word of the password is mirror. While I always strive for uniqueness and originality in my works I rarely miss a chance to feature a reference or draw inspiration from various sources including movies, video games, books and both fantasy and non-fantasy themed franchises, Soulsborne, The Witcher, Lord of the Rings and Lovecraftian universe to name just a few.
To not only speak of myself, my current players are all pleasant and friendly individuals who always strive to foster a welcoming and safe environment. Despite how things may seem at times we don't take ourselves too seriously at all and enjoy humor as much as any other friend group out there. While most of us have known each other for some time, we are always excited to welcome any newcomers. Despite how dedicated we are to our characters and to the story, everybody having fun at nobodys expense is always a priority.
So if I have you sold until now here is some basic information on the game:
Number of players searching for: two
What we play: Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition
How and where we play: Online using discord and a virtual tabletop (we are currently on Roll20 but considering switching over to FoundryVTT)
Timezone: CEST (GMT +1)
When we play: weekly on Saturdays 5 - 10/11 pm
Campaign: homebrew campaign set in the Forgotten Realms (Sword Coast)
Other: we will run the first session on the 7th of January
I see myself as a fair but demanding dungeon master who asks a lot of his players and tries to give back as much or more in return. If you decide to join our group expect to invest some time outside of the sessions into the game as well as be subject to strict attendance requirements that ask you to consider making it to the sessions a priority. The fourth word of the password is crack. If a session is a pastime you replace with a watch of Netflix every other week this is not a group for you. Note also that by joining our group you are committing yourself to ideally a long term weekly activity that will take up your Saturday evenings for the foreseeable future. I cannot obviously tell you for how long the campaign will run but our last one did for almost a year and from the 2nd session onward no players dropped out.
These are the mandatory requirements for joining our group (no exceptions, don't ask):
20 + years of age
advanced English - if you aren't a native speaker you need to be a confident and an experience one
6 + months or a minimum of twenty sessions of DnD 5e experience - this includes the knowledge of the rules as well as experience being a part of a game group
functioning microphone, webcam and stable internet connection able to handle long video calls over discord (very important)
strong enough hardware to run the requisite programs (Discord and either Roll20 or FoundryVTT, make sure to check your PC meets the minimum requirements for the latter)
adherence with all of our group guidelines - this includes session rules (conduct), house rules and character creation requirements (not overtly strict)
If you've made it this far perhaps you are surprised to find out how little has so far been said on the campaign itself - its theme, the details of its setting, character starting level and equipment, available races and classes, banned feats and spells and all the other specifics one could anticipate to run into in a post such as this. While I probably won't be able to fully satisfy your curiosity on this front as there are far too many details to get into and I would rather certain things to myself for now, I'll try to provide you with some basic facts that should give you a rough idea of what to expect.
the characters will be 1st level at the beginning of the campaign and will hit level 3 fairly quickly after which the level progression will slow down slightly, keeping to a stable pace
the first main plot of the campaign is set to revolve around the city of Waterdeep, its politics, culture and background but the party is expected to venture out of the city regularly (the year is 1492)
if I had to compare the campaigns plot to a plot of one of the officially released modules Id say Waterdeep Dragonheist but that's still a bit of a stretch
various subplots (sidequests you could plausibly call them) related to the character backstories (character story arcs), loosely tied to the main plot or completely independent are set to form a large part of the campaign storytelling
downtime activities and other optional player endeavors are set to play a role as well as any other pastimes players will show an interest in pursuing
Well I don't believe there is much to be added and I think anyone would agree that enough has been written. Still here and still interested? Very good. Click onto the link below to fill out a google form to apply. Best of luck to you.
Hint: You will need a backstory of a character you plan to play in our campaign, one of a character you portrayed sometime in the past or another piece of DnD oriented narrative writing in a google doc to successfully fill out the form.
