Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online or In-Person Experience: 7 years as player, 3 as DM/GM Location/Timezone: ET, I'll be moving to Boston, MA by June Availability: Weekends and Evenings would work best (I can't do Saturday afternoon, nor Friday evening however) Preferred role: To start, I'd like to be a player (life is a bit too chaotic right now for me to run full campaigns). Game style: I put a huge focus on the narrative of the game and thoroughly enjoy seeing characters integrated into the campaign and seeing the juicy character development. I like a healthy balance of the three major parts (combat, exploration, social interactions), but they need to be narratively engaging.
As the title states, I'm looking for a community or possibly a forever group (meaning, a normal group that will play multiple campaigns and have a few DMs within the group who alternate as much as they wish.... I probably could've done a better job describing what I mean, but hopefully that summed it up well enough). Furthermore, I do have some DMing experience, but life is a bit chaotic for me right now and I have no desire to commit as a DM when I can't ensure you're getting quality sessions you deserve, but I start the next phase of life in June and I should have a significantly more structured schedule then.
And I know I'm a few months early, but I will be moving to Boston for work in June and would ideally like to begin meeting people in the Greater Boston Area who are like-minded!
Finally, I'm welcoming of all identities and have no problem taking on a bit of a mentor role for newer players / DMs/GMs. I am relatively proficient in Roll20 (better than the average person, but still just the basics) and use the Beyond20 extension. And, of course, I have a Discord (though I try to keep it out of public forums).
Please let me know if you have something I might be a good fit for! I look forward to the possibility of questing with y'all and wish ye good morrow!
EDIT: I will indeed consider Westmarch servers given I get the feeling I'd vibe well with the community, though I would prefer more traditional style games. I will also point out that I have never played in a Westmarch server before, but I do have the elementary idea of how they're run
For everyone reading this post: yes, I would consider westmarch games. Essentially, I'm looking for either larger communities (like 20-30 people perhaps, give or take) that run multiple games a week where I could potentially meet and play with many great players and DMs/GMs (or have it west march style, though I would admittedly prefer more traditional games with respect to the logistics) or an average sized group composed of people who enjoy playing and DMing for the possibility of swapping when we finish a campaign (as well as the odd one-shot). I'll edit my original posting and title, as I was definitely unclear with what precisely I'm in search of.
To respond directly to rogue, I greatly appreciate the link to check out your server; however, with absolute certainty, your group won't be a proper fit for me. While I am all for restricting player options to fit the setting (I often add restrictions when I run a game), I would like to use material from FTD. Further, rule 5 gave me a bad feeling (I merely got a bad feeling when I read it, I apologize for any negative implications -- I'm certain the server is very considerate and professional of how you go about PvP). (Just wanted to give my reasoning for turning the offer down and felt as though you deserved a proper, direct response since I gave a general response.)
My group is located in the Boston area and looking for online people from that area to join us. We're planning on the games to be mostly online but with the rare meet up if we're all available. This is planning to be our "forever group" as well, and we have a couple DMs who swap out.
