I am aiming to host a one shot session, God willing, this upcoming Saturday - 7th of January 2022 - and I am searching for interested players or group. Please read the details of the session listed below to avoid any confusions or misunderstandings:
As mentioned in the title, the session is currently designed to begin and end on the same day. However, I plan on expanding the session into a full campaign if my familial obligations permit such a decision, and if the players that attend the session on Saturday would be interested in continuing the story. Such a decision can be discussed with the group for further insight.
The session will be held this upcoming Saturday, the 7th of January 2022, God willing; if I manage to garner interest of players before 8 pm EST today, and if tonight would be a more preferable time, then we can start tonight at 8 pm EST instead. However, if the session transforms into a full campaign, the day will change from Saturday to Friday; the schedule for the campaign can be discussed with the group for other opportunities and availabilities.
The session will be hosted within a world of my own design. The lore of official D&D content will not be present.
The various themes and genres that are present within the world are as follows: fantasy, scientific fiction, steampunk, mystery, adventure, horror and psychological thrills. A testimonial from previous groups states that the world is a fusion of the Game of Thrones novels, the Berserk anime/manga and Lovecraftian tales; ironically, I never read any of the three media. Also note that the session, or the campaign, is not designed to act as an escape from reality; it is designed to immerse the player within reality.
The rules of D&D 5th Edition are implemented, with slight modifications to assuage the element of luck by resorting to the skills, experiences and knowledge of the character.
As long as the background and story of the character is within the boundaries of the lore of the world, there are no restrictions to character creation. During the interview, which is discussed below, the background and story of the characters will also be discussed.
There are two plots prepared for the session, which I prefer to discuss with the group before starting:
Please keep in mind that the plot has been reduced in scale to match a single session only, without the potential of continuation through a full campaign. The campaign, however, is itself designed to allow the players to create and engage in their own plots through their interactions with the world and through their immersion with the lore.
Though the second possible plot involves combat, the session, and by proxy the campaign, tends to appeal to those who enjoy reading lore and immersion within that lore, worldbuilding, role-playing, character development and interactions, and narration. According to testimonials of the past, players who enjoy focusing on combat will be disappointed.
Players will be starting at Level 1.
The session will be hosted exclusively on discord, through the format known as "theater of the mind". Voice AND video chats are mandatory. Please note that this rule has been enforced due to issues between party members in the past.
Interested players or groups will be interviewed to discuss preferences, expectations, reservations and answer any questions related to the session. As mentioned earlier, if a group is assembled today before 8 pm EST, and if tonight is a preferable time, then we can start the session at 8 pm EST instead of tomorrow at 6 pm EST.
I prefer discord as the communicative channel, as I do not receive notifications on this site promptly. If, for any reason, an interested individual fails to contact me via discord, feel free to reply here; I apologize in advance if my reply is not as prompt as I wish for it to be, however. This matter was a point of contention in the past, so I would like to openly provide prospective players with the following disclaimer: I am human before I am a host, which means that I care not for the experience of the player in role-playing or in D&D; I care for the personality of the player, since that is what I interact with. As such, players will encounter a respectful environment in which they can enjoy the session or the campaign, regardless of player experience. In addition, though this is nothing but a game, it is still a commitment, as it is an activity that consumes the time of the host and other players; players in the past have contacted me to join sessions or campaigns, yet never showed any diligence to such a commitment, either by failing to create their characters or simply leaving without uttering a word. So please be mindful and considerate of the time dedicated to the fulfilment of the session by the players and the host.
