If interested, shoot me a connect on LinkedIn at LinkedIn.com/christophertherecruiter, that's where I'm at all day because of my job. I almost never check this site, but I'll try to peek here occasionally because I know some of you probably don't use LinkedIn.
22+ years of age, please. We just prefer a certain level of maturity and picked an arbitrary number. *Shrug*
You don't have to read all the stuff below. It's just there in case you want to.
---About the table---
Totally original setting in the typical D&D universe with accurate-ish lore. "Prevent a total apocalypse" scenario.
Pros:
Nearly ready to go! Players have already joined. I have 2 players already. One more pending, but it doesn't seem promising. I'm looking for a party size of 4-5 total.
Characters! I don't care what source book or website it came from. As long as it doesn't use completely made up skills and such that nobody can look up easily and quickly without having to ask you what obscure subreddit or homebrew site you got it from and it's not totally broken or non-fantasy or "fanfic" (no Terminators, Klingons, Poros, weird Sonic furry things, Chozo, Hot Wheels cars, etc), you're welcome to use whatever you want.
Interesting! Tons of deep, interesting lore, gorgeous maps and art. I have well over a year of campaign already fleshed out. Easily. Probably much more. I spent over 3 months and many hours a day creating a rich world, memorable characters, relationships, legends, antagonists, all from scratch - and nothing is truly scripted. It is essentially an open world and nothing is really on rails, save for a few key plot points.
The DM's got chops! I'm a sales executive by trade in the talent acquisition industry - it's my job to make even boring and unremarkable things/people intriguing, and I write fiction for a hobby - often. I can virtually sneeze entire stories into existence with almost no effort. I absolutely love to paint pictures in people's imagination, and I love to hook people into wanting to know more. It's second nature to me. Improvised conversations and quick banter are my career. I'm totally comfortable with derailment. I don't care what comes up on the dice. I don't need a script or notes. I'll be ready.
EASY! We don't use any fancy stuff. Mostly imagination, discord, and a free, simple whiteboard app called Miro. That's it.
Flexible! We don't do "same day same time every week" - we plan the next session at the end of every session. We all have lives. Bust out your calendar at the end of the game and we'll all powwow and figure it out.
Cons:
New! DM is not deeply experienced (but is certainly passable - has received kudos from much more experienced DMs for showing impressive knowledge despite somewhat low tenure with the game)
2nd go! This is a reboot. We had a bad experience with several players at the table during last attempt. I'm a really tolerant guy, but I can't stand "ride-alongs" - if you're going to show up at my table, I expect participation. Please don't waste a seat at my table by showing up every session only to watch everyone else play. Do stuff.
Deja Vu! Two of the players have already been through the start of the campaign. They have no qualms about playing it again, as they loved it the first time around and have new ideas about how to approach a few situations differently. We only got to level 2. It's mostly improv a lot of the time anyway, most things won't go the same way they did before.
Evening! Due to work schedules in general, dinner, kids, etc. most sessions will be in the relatively late evening. Usually starting around 6-7pm pacific time. I usually go an hour, give a 15 minute break, and then we decide if we're doing another hour when we get back, and keep doing that until somebody taps out. Current record is 3.75 hours. We usually go 2.5 - so I'd say if you need to be in bed before 9:30pm, this might not be for you.
Strong personalities! The two existing players at the table are my identical twin brother and a good friend of mine. We overtalk. We interrupt. We get "main character syndrome" sometimes. We're very confident, outspoken, creative and enthusiastic people that love the spotlight. Feel free to go "HEY! My turn!" and take some agency - sometimes we need it.
House rules stuff:
Zero draconic bloodlines can exist in this campaign. You'll understand once you hear/see the prologue. No dragons, no dragonborn, no kobolds, etc. - It's a pretty neat reason.
We don't do ammo or encumbrance. But I'll definitely turn things out of your favor if you abuse it. You're not going to climb a ladder with 400lb pounds of nonsense on your person. Also, a natural 1 on a ranged attack roll that uses ammunition means you're out of ammunition until you buy more, and you'll need to buy a believable amount.
We don't do exp, we do milestones.
No obviously overpowered "I'm here to make the game less fun for everyone but me" meta builds.
Please send me suggestions for what will make your player experience better. Does your character have a superstition that you'd like a chance to roleplay? Do you feel like you aren't getting enough scrolls or spellbooks? Let me know. I'm easy and I'll make it happen if it makes sense to.
We don't track food or water, but again, if you push the limits of believability, consequence will rear it's ugly head. It's kinda this same drill for a lot of the more infamous tedium mechanics.
Please be warned that I will kill your character without much guilt. There's a term at my table called "critical stupid" i.e., yes, you can absolutely kick that level 20 barbarian NPC in the nuts at level one. You can do whatever you fancy. But you see, I personally don't believe that becoming un-alive should be as preventable or difficult to arrive at as it is in 5e and I will gladly alter the game over it if you're actively dropping trousers and mooning death. That said, bring a blank character sheet just in case and go on and give those fuzzy Kratos beans a good punt. You have my blessing.
Aaaand... Other stuff. We'll talk more at session zero. This is a pretty good foundation of expectations.
The flexibility and the sincere enthusiasm sounds super awesome and fun seeing as I'm in college with a job so managing getting to a session the same time every week can be very tough. However, I'm only 18 which I know doesn't work but I thought regardless I'd put myself down here in case anything changes!
Hey there Riftborne, I wasn't able to find you on LinkedIn. To be honest I've never used it and so I made my very first account but when I search up your username nothing really comes up unless I'm doing something wrong. But regardless of that I would really like to know if you still have two positions available because me and my friend would love to join this type of campaign specifically! Both me and my friend usually play the role of dungeon master but recently we've been wanting to find a campaign to participate in as players again and this seems to be the perfect game for us! And also to clarify me and my friend we both meet your age requirements.
If anything you can also reach out to me via Discord at Gonzalo Komnenos#5999
Heyo, no worries, I wasn't expecting an answer until much later so I am genuinely surprised! My day is also pretty free tomorrow so feel free to contact me on here or over Discord or if I manage to figure out how LinkedIn works or really any form of communication that you prefer, just let me know and I'll see you there.
Hey there. Just saw your post and decided to throw my hat into the ring. I am mainly only available on Sundays, so is that is a problem for you and/or your group or is that okay? I am definitely interested in this campaign if you'll have me. I also sent you a Discord request so we can talk there if you wish. I hope to hear from you soon because I am able to start today if possible.
