ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN SETTING:
Welcome to Thyss, a pocket world that came about from two planes colliding.
The destruction created a spark of energy and the doomed souls of those two worlds that were caught up in that cosmic devastation were wrapped up in the energy of that spark.
Debris from the shattered worlds gathered around the energy spark and developed into an ethereal seed of life, energy, and souls; The Star Seed.
They That Are, a divine being, happened to witness the cosmic tragedy.
Pitying all that was lost while simultaneously marveling at the potential creation of new life, They That Are took the Star Seed and after great discussion placed it in the protection of Mildred a cosmic sea turtle, a divine being and cherished companion.
With time, the Star Seed grew. So much so that They That Are gave pieces of Their essence to provide cooling replenishing water to the world upon Mildred's Shell nurturing the roots nestled deep in the warmth and nourishment offered by Mildred.
The Star Seed grew into a massive world tree and was called The Star Seed Tree.
Soon, life came from the tree and the world grew more and more upon Mildred's Shell.
Not only plants and animals but people.
There was a problem however and it was a problem all pocket worlds come to face.
Souls cannot be created, only recycled. Thus making souls for the living a finite resource on Thyss.
Nine regions exist on Thyss, each with their own biome and way of life. They surround The Great Star Seed Tree that stands at the center of the world, each region housing and guarding their own lesser star seed tree, an offshoot from the original one. Each tree houses and filters the souls that leave their living hosts upon death.
Some people die, pass their soul and are revived with that same soul with just memories of who they once were. Others die and are let go and the soul is recycled entirely, bringing to a new life memories or pieces of memories from a previous life.
Thyss has existed for centuries now and the surviving populations are growing, civilizations developing, and wars have erupted and eventually ended.
One such war, the worst war to ever happen upon Mildred's Shell, is known as The Great Division.
War came about when the people of the first original city settlement, Theyres, reached a point of difference they could not work past and violence broke out.
Each dividing faction of Theyres chose a general to lead them during The Great Division and each general laid claim to a region upon Mildred's Shell and built a kingdom around the lesser star seed tree in that region, drawing from the energy and magic stored within them.
The Great Division resulted in such death and destruction that souls were recycled so often people were coming back consumed with rage and sorrows from previous lives that just powered more violence into the war of the nine generals.
The war was halted when an unending serpent of fire and ice crawled from a murk formed by gathered dark energy and began laying waste to everything and everyone in its path.
They suddenly had to defeat this new greater powerful threat but none knew how to put aside their differences to work together. War for so long had left them raw with distrust and bitterness towards everyone that was not of their own kingdom.
The Serpent of fire and ice was causing great pain to Mildred and so for the first time, They That Are intervened.
A champion was chosen directly by They That Are to aid the cause and bring peace back for the sake of Mildred who suffered from the darkness war had created.
Once the serpent was subdued, because they discovered it couldn't be destroyed, they passed a law that violence and dark practices were to be forbidden. It sleeps under the roots and waters beneath the Great Star Seed Tree.
If too much dark energy gathered and reached the serpent in its sleeping state it would rise once more.
A long time of peace and prosperity after the Great Division has allowed for a large growing population, so large in fact, that some people are born without souls, creating seemingly lifeless husks.
Souls being finite means that even in a time of great peace Thyss is still riddled with troubles.
Hence the need for universal peacekeepers. People from all regions, unified and tasked with moderating and protecting the regions; The Star Seed Brigade. They don't have full power over the generals and their kingdoms but they're the force designated with the job of keeping things in line for the sake of all of Thyss.
That is what the players will all have in common. They all carry the badge of The SSB and work tirelessly to protect their world.
ABOUT THE GAME MASTER:
Hi! I'm Meghan, known as Wishes on some Discord servers and other spots of the internet.
Here are the important bits:
I am LGBTQIA+ Friendly & Beginner Friendly.
I value the "3 Pillars" of TRPGs (Roleplay, Combat, & Exploration/Puzzles) BUT my GMing style lends towards heavy roleplay with the other two added in when the story deems it and not because I have to have all 3 aspects of the game in each session.
Rules are important but the main goal is for everyone to have a good time playing a game they enjoy and if that means allowing for "The Rule of Cool" from time to time then that's okay.
Here are more details about the important bits:
I believe its crucial to have a safe creative space that welcomes all players.
Respect and acceptance are necessary for that and I will not allow for anything less from players so that everyone can feel comfortable as they build and discover their characters together.
Also, I am always happy to help beginning players or people who are still uncertain about some things involving the game.
So don't let being new or nervous stop you from living the adventure you yearn for!
I will be patient and happily explain anything you need from me as many times as you want and nobody will judge you if you don't know how to do everything right the first time or don't have a cool voice for your character or aren't confident in your roleplaying. We're all just people trying to find joy through the same way, D&D.
As for my play style, I tend to run a more narrative driven game with a focus on roleplay but there are still combat encounters and puzzles to shake things up and make things exciting!
When it comes to rulings, I believe that rules are valuable in a gaming environment because they provide an important balance but I also believe that at the end of it all The Rule of Cool is most important.
Everyone having a good time is the end goal here and I believe that being flexible with things is a great way to accomplish that at times.
I do respect people's feelings and triggers and use the Lines and Veils system for a safety tool.
Lines are things you absolutely cannot tolerate having in a game you're playing.
Veils are things you don't mind having mentioned or hearing about it "off screen" but you don't want any details.
Roleplaying games really take alot of trust between GM and Player and I will do everything in my ability to provide a fun and safe atmosphere so that everyone feels comfortable to be themselves and their characters.
I love building a living breathing world with my players and I hope that by collaborating with them it helps to write an epic story that they will retell with big smiles on their faces tomorrow and years from now too.
I am also available for custom game requests if you already have something in mind that you would like to play that isn't my Homebrew campaign.
Just use my Startplaying.games link at the top of the post and request your game.
