Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Face-to-face Experience: Veteran (through 3.5) Location/Timezone: Southern Oakland County, MI - Woodward Avenue / Detroit adjacent Availability: Weekends (Weeknights possible, TBD) Preferred role: Player Game style: Looking for a game with actual in-character role-play and dramatic combats that drive meaningful story developments. I'm hoping for a party that accomplishes great things through team-work and quick thinking more than just a cyclical monster-murder-montage.
I've been playing since the 80's but took the last decade (or so) off being a dad. Now that my kid has come of adventuring-age I've started running a game for a group of 6th & 7th graders. It has been going very well, everything old and stale to me is new in their eyes and I'm loving every minute of it. Doing this has completely reignited my passion for the hobby and I'm itching for more. I love being the wizened old wizard-oracle for these kids but it has made me want to find a group of adult players to join where I can be another player at the table instead of being responsible for shepherding a herd of ravenous pre-teens. (I'm also good about bringing snacks to share on game night.)
I've played countless hours of D&D over the years. I know that one of my former groups met weekly for at least 10 years, with me as DM for most of those. I fell away from active questing around the 3.5 edition so I'm very familiar with the game and its concepts but am very rusty on the specifics of the current ruleset. I enjoy miniatures a lot (I paint) and the thrill of maneuvering on a grid for tactical battles. I also enjoy a wide variety of complicated board-games, miniature warfare systems, and related hobby-centric shenanigans. I tend to write up deep character back stories and really enjoy sinking my teeth into those drives and motivations.
I'm a dad in my 40's with a F/T office job so scheduling can be rough but my wife is understanding about my desire to get back into the dungeons and drop some crits. A weekly commitment is possible but may be difficult for me to maintain, so an every other week group may be a better fit for me for now. Happy to slide into an existing campaign to fill a vacant chair as a supporting cast member (to start) or get on board for the opening session of something new.
Hi, I replied to your comment in the metro Detroit thread and then saw this. We've got similar backgrounds, 40 something dad here as well, though my daughter is younger than your kid, she's about to turn five. I've been making terrain with her and playing Hero Kids and Amazing Tales which has made me really want to run a proper game. I am looking to play on a weekend evening, I have one other player interested, don't have a set day yet. Over the last few years I have been developing campaign ideas so have lots of different things I would like to run, send me a message and we can get into specifics. Semi-weekly is a workable schedule for me.
