Game: D&D 5e or 3.5e Group preferred: Online Experience: Moderately experienced with D&D and TRPGs generally, but new to both D&D 5e and online play Location/Timezone: Eastern US Availability: Weekdays 7 pm to approx. midnight (except Wednesdays), or weekends after 10 am Preferred role: Player Game style: Casual roleplay or hack’n’slash
More info about me: I used to play with a good group of friends in college, but lost touch with them years ago after graduating and moving away. Since then, I still find myself creating the occasional character or penning the odd encounter in my spare time, and I’ve decided I’d like to pick the game up properly again. I’ve played and enjoyed several D&D campaigns under the 3.5 edition rules, as well as some non-D&D TRPG systems. I’ve also run three campaigns and a few modules as the DM (or non-D&D equivalent) as well. D&D’s 5th edition is new to me, but I’d be more than happy to learn.
I also haven’t played a tabletop RPG online before, and might initially need a little extra handholding there until I get used to the format as well as learn the conventions and expectations that go with it. But again, definitely willing to learn. And as a possible upside, I’m not wedded to any particular platform or program since I’d be equally new to any of them.
I’m happy to fill just about any role in a party. I’m particularly fond of utility roles such as scouts, healers, bards, generalist spellcasters, etc. I find it particularly satisfying when I can provide just the right tool/spell/skill/knack/etc. at just the right time to give the party an edge, provide a third option when the existing ones don’t appeal, or reverse a bad situation. I’m also easily engaged in rooting for the group’s overall success, and don’t feel like I need a moment in the spotlight every session.
What I’m looking for: I’d be happy to join a new campaign or an existing one in progress. I enjoy the roleplaying and storytelling elements of D&D, but I suspect my skills in this area are fairly rusty at the moment. So I’d be very happy to join a roleplay-heavy campaign, but this is another area where you might need to be patient with me, at least at first, or be a group who is more casual in how you handle the roleplay elements of the game so I don’t frustrate the other players with my fumbling.
I also enjoy pitting myself against unique monsters, dungeons, and other challenges. I likewise enjoy helping to solve in-game puzzles or mysteries, so those DMs inclined to include them can feel confident that I’ll be enthusiastic to participate in them. I’m generally on-board with homebrew elements and house rules, depending on what they actually are.
I will admit that games where the players cause mayhem and destruction “just because” usually isn’t my kind of game. It’s one thing if we’re trying to incite a panic at a town festival to achieve a goal that advances the campaign. But a party that murders every barkeep and blacksmith we meet, just for a laugh, probably isn’t the group I’m looking for.
And maybe it’s silly to mention it, but when you boil it all down, what I’m really looking for is just a group I can laugh along with, triumph and despair with, and just generally be able to honestly say “a good time was had by all” when each session ends.
If you think I might be a good fit for your group and game, please feel free to send me a message. If you do, I’d love to know a little about your group and what kind of game you or your DM is running or planning to run. It would also be helpful to mention what platform(s) or tool(s) you expect me to use if I join, either to play the game or just to stay in contact with the group as a whole, so I can look into registering account(s) or purchasing the product(s) in question, if applicable. And if you have any questions for me, I’ll be happy to answer what I can.
