Greetings again fellow adventures. Hi I am Jaime. I am a 43 year old man who had gotten back into DnD after many years away. I used to play lots of different RPGs back in Highschool, where I was the DM like 95% of time. DnD, Shadowrun, TMNT, and many more. It was mostly Dungeons and Dragons. I have my home game with my wife and my daughter, and I have been really digging into 5e to learn the past few months . I started online a few weeks ago.
There is a huge learning curve and it is tough to know where to start because many people employ different ways to play. I found one group that is heavy RP and theater of the mind, and I communicate all week with them with side RP and we play a set schedule on Tuesday 2pm EST to 7-6 EST, and sometimes a pick up if people want. They have been very accepting and I am having fun. I found another group that is Avrae strong and a wonderful group of folks. I am struggling to learn the language so I am not so clunky but learning the coding is fun too. I have tried to reach out to a lot of other folks on Discord, beyond, and roll20. Some folks can't handle quite how little I know in the online side, some people have not been a good fit, and some folks just have unrealistic expectations.
I would like to find a 3rd group the is kind of in the middle. Some more visual aids and core mechanics, but less on the coding side. Not *****ing about other groups, just trying to find out what there is out there to offer. I love DMing, but I am taking some time to learn how to be a player. I will be an asset to any group that will have me if they are willing to deal with a million questions as I learn the ropes again. I am on the East Coast and right now I am mostly free except Tuesday 2-7pm, and not to too late. I want to play some 5e DND online. I am willing to put in some work.
I am sure some folks I have already talked to are out there are reading this. No hard feelings. I am looking for something juuuust right for my third group, and then I am really going to buckle down and learn from each group. I have also been giving myself lots of homework learning new stuff. Youtube, the source material, asking questions, and attending anything on Roll20 the looks like a lesson. Just started digging into OneNote for my home sessions and this junk is a gamechanger for DMing. I'm thick in the head sometimes, but I don't quit so it sticks eventually. When the hell did we end up in the future? This tech stuff for DnD now is incredible.
I prefer starting at the beginning, and I really don't care what race/class you want me to play. I just want to play.
Me on Discord: inbeforefall (#9390) I don't know if you need the number.
I am looking for another member of a motley crew that I am thinking of building. I am still a fairly new DM but I currently have 2 campaigns running and am thinking of starting another to fill a existing hole in my schedule. The first has been running for almost a year and a half and the other for almost 8 months. I tend towards more serious campaigns with moments of laughter and look towards more RP with combat adding to the story. (Ends ups being around a 70/30 split). It is a running joke that Avrae is a terrorist in my larger group as we are recovering Avrae users. I utilize Discord for voice and Roll20 for maps and DND beyond for rolling but that is not a must. I do ask that your character is created in DND beyond just for me to see and to allow me to use the encounter tracker there. We have all been playing for less than 4 years so we are very welcoming of the questions. I love maps and visual aids for anything I can. We are not strict on rules but try to follow to the best of our ability. But my number one concern is my players and I have fun, and we will use the rule of cool when appropriate.
The tentative schedule is every other Thursday at 8pm EST to 11pm as we all work full time. Currently I have 2 players and myself and we are all members of the LGTBIQ community, so we ask people to be rainbow friendly. All players so far are 28 to 35, so we can and will approach mature topics, but nothing explicit. I utilize safety tools and there will be a session 0 to discuss limits. I am still in the planning process so it probably wouldn't start for another month. If you are interested or would like to chat you can message me on discord at PersephoneRose#3886. I have sent a friend request so we can talk more if you are interested
