I'm brand new to D&D and looking for a group to join in with. As a beginner I will have questions (sorry) so patience will be needed I guess. The game looks like a lot of fun and as someone who loves RPGs this is right up my street. I've created a character and want to see where this goes. Anyone looking for a new player?
Back story I was thinking of was born in a remote ish village to a elvish mother, never knew his human father. Mother taught him how to hunt and track from an early age as well as pass on stories of her people. She discovered my talent for magic and with her limited knowledge help me learn some basic spells. She passed on her grandfathers staff to me on my 18th birthday. A few years ago mother passed away when the village was attacked by bandits. Since then I've taken on the mantle as the villages protector. Been there ever since.
Cool first character. A few things I'd like to mention or point out:
- Your character is your domain, just as the dungeon master runs the game, you 'run' your character. That means there's no right or wrong when it comes to what you picked. If this felt right to you, then this is your character! :D
- That said though, I notice you went for a multiclass (1 level in ranger, 1 in sorcerer). If this is your first time playing, I would advise considering going for just one class, and get to know it a bit. Again: ultimately that's your own choice.
- The goodies you gave yourself (the potions and whatnot) are usually in agreement with the DM.. so if you have a good reason why your character should start with these items, make sure to have a story for that ready!
Other than that: this looks like a nice first try, and with the backstory you wrote above I think there's room for a solid character here.
Thank you for your advice. You're probably right, wrap my head around one class for now. I do have an explanation for those items and if the DM allows it then great. If not then I'll swap them for currency (copper) I don't mind
