Hello fellow DnD pals! I was mostly just wanting to see if I could find a group of people in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area to play some D&D. Obviously with this damn covid stuff, we would have to start online...but all I want is a group that's close enough to me that I can feasibly play a weekly or every other week game in person. If you or someone you know might have room for someone in an existing group, or want to set up a new group, please let me know! I already play an online game on Wednesday nights but I'm free any other night and have somewhat flexible weekends. My discord is krs4890#5456 if you want to figure something out.
Afternoon Katie - I just saw your post (How did I miss it). We just started a new game here in Cedar Rapids that we are looking for 1 or 2 more players. We just had our Session 0 but can adjust. Let me know if you are interested.
So good to hear - the next time we play is Saturday (May 8) 4-7pm. We play at the store I'm the manager of called PakMail.
Address: 5249 N Park Pl NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
Here is some key information for the game:
=Opener
The Forgotten Realms called the Sword Coast is part of the North — a vast realm of free settlements surrounded by lawless, untamed wilderness. This is a place of adventure, where daring souls delve into ancient strongholds and explore. Amid a lawless wilderness of jagged, alpine forests, and roaming monsters, the coast holds such bastions of civilization as the city of Neverwinter.
=You Begin in the mining town of Phandalin
The adventure is set a short distance from the city of Neverwinter. Nestled in the rocky foothills of the snow-capped Sword Mountains is the mining town of Phandalin. Phandalin’s residents are quiet, hard-working folk who came from distant cities to eke out a life amid the harsh wilderness. They are farmers, stonecutters, blacksmiths, traders, prospectors, and children. The town has no walls and no garrison, but most of the adults keep weapons within easy reach in case the need for arms should arise. Visitors are welcome here, particularly if they have coins to spend or news to share.
* Some key places in the town: Stonehill Inn, Barthen’s Provisions, Lionshield Coster, & Townmaster’s Hall
=Overall Theme of dragon of Icespire Peak
You & the other adventures are young/new adventures who are looking to make a name for yourself in the sword coast. To help you get started you have connected with a patron who has brought your group together and sent you to Phaldalin to find out if the rumors of a new dragon threat are true.
=Key Truths of dragon of Icespire Peak
There is a dragon threatening Phaldalin and the area around it
The dragon’s presence effects more than just the people of Phaldalin
The adventurers are all working for a single patron
A large group of Orcs are running amuck in the Neverwinter woods
There is another flying “monster” that has been spotted besides the dragon
=Your character in the world
Characters begin at 1st level. Players are to use the standard ability scores (15,14,13,12,10,8) as they build their character. You can choose character options from the player's handbook, Xanathar’s guide to everything, the Sword Coast adventures guide, &/or Tahsha’s cauldron of everything. Build well-rounded characters that are able to interact with the different people in and around Phaldalin, able to survive the harsh realities of monsters and more impacting the area, and are willing to help each other and those in need.
=Safety Tools:
This adventure is a fun and basic DND game designed to create fun moments for all that are playing (Including the DM). A key goal to accomplish this is to remember these safety tools:
- It is the job of the DM to do everything he can to make the game as fun as possible for all playing the game.
- It is the job of all players to do everything they can to make the game as fun as possible for everyone else playing (including the DM).
- Lines (absolutes): This game will not contain physical violence towards children, unwanted sexual content, animal abuse or cruelty, party-initiated torture, inter-party violence (no PvP), or inter-party betrayal.
- Veils (only referenced off screen): Cannibalism, mental assault, ritual sacrifice, kidnaping, consensual sex, or enemy-initiated torture .
- If at any time you don’t feel comfortable with the content or direction of the game, say “pause for a second” and we will stop the game and address your concerns.
=Play times
The goal is to play once a week for 8 weeks in a row. The game time will last for 3-4 hours. Starting no later than 7pm and going no later than 11pm. At the end of 8 weeks we will take an agreed pause of 1-2 weeks. If there is a need to not meet communication to all players (and in particular the DM) is needed.
=What we eat
Everyone is welcome to bring what food & drink they want. No alcohol is allowed. All trash needs to be cleaned up before leaving the game area. A gift of food/snack to the DM is always welcomed.
Looking for a D&D group in the North Central Iowa area, Anywhere between Fort Dodge, Iowa Falls and Mason City. Im in a small rural town so expect I will need to travel to one of these larger towns or another town in this area. Im fairly equal distant between those three towns.
Hello there. Looking for a group to join in Cedar Rapids. My husband and I would like to connect to some peeps who are in it for the fun, the roleplay and the battles.
