What do you know of greek myth?
The seas sway and churn between the beautiful green Isles of Dakra. The drums of industry and war sound around the nooks and crannys of the Katachton mountains, where the Akroans practice their eternal art of bloodshed. Lightning strikes over the monsoons of Oreskos. Men and monsters live and die in the mortal realm, but those with true powers are the gods. Poseidon, Ares, Zeus. You are the halfborn child of a god, cast from Mount Olympus upon the discovery of your fell birth, or left upon the mortal realm after a holy roll in the hay where your dad turned into a boar or something. You are adventurers with the blood of gods, eking out an existence among terrifying monsters and wicked storms. The polis of Meletis prepares it's ships, the men of Akros prepare their spears and their hatred. War is coming to Theros, and the gods are preparing to choose sides and give favor. Explore the forgotten corners of the world. Sail the seas in search of sunken treasure and terrible creatures. Delve into the lands of death, and climb the mountains of the gods themselves. You can create your own path, by your own hand, and the power of your parentage in: The Mythic Odysseys of Theros.
This is a game of heroes, monsters, and gods. It uses the sourcebook based in Magic: The Gathering's Theros, while injecting enough of our own Greek mythologies to avoid confusion. If I bring up the will of Heliod or Ephara you might look back at me and scratch your head. If I say Zeus or Athena, you know exactly what I'm talking about. My goal is to maintain the tone of something like Percy Jackson or Hades. This is a world where things are fantastical and idealistic. Real war is terrifying and hellish. War in Theros is also that, but alongside that it's also epic and honorable. Real ancient Greece is about as enlightened as a Denny's bathroom floor, with all the LGBT representation and social progressiveness of an 80s exploitation film, but Theros is a land of scholars and art and love and war and myths and heroes.
My games generally have a 60/40 split of roleplaying and combat, with a focus on creative use of the environment and the world. If you can't think outside the box, you won't succeed in my game. This is an ad to bolster an old playgroup that is starting a new campaign, so I'm looking for 2-3 players, and we play on Sundays at 6pm PST
