I'm not entirely sure where to post, so this looks to be as good of a spot as any. Like the title says I want to start playing D&D, I'm not sure if I'm looking for a 1 shot or a full campaign but I do know that my schedule could make this difficult. Yes with the joys of the internet it's easier to connect with people from your couch, but my problem is having that time on the couch.
Between work, going back to college, married, two young kids, and just life in general free time is at a premium as far as being able to carve out a set time each week I can dedicate to playing. For the most part, I should be able to get some time around 9pm - midnight EST most nights but it's not always guaranteed. I think the biggest issue I have though is that while I can do discord just fine to join a game I wouldn't be able to voice chat. I could listen in with a set of headphones but with everyone else being in bed I would be hesitant to want to talk cause I wouldn't want to wake anyone up. I'm sure this isn't a complete deal breaker for someone, but I am concerned that it's going to heavily limit the people who would be willing to put up with it.
I guess I'm asking for advice on how to get a group with limited time and ability to make noise, and just how to get started in a game.
I've never played before, but I definitely want to give it a whirl. Some of my friends play, but I never have the time to join them and learn!
My schedule can be very unpredictable as well. I'd love to give this a try and learn! I used to do a lot of text based RPG on aim back in the day, but never got a chance to learn how to play D&D!

Both of you should check out the "Forge Concordance" on roll20 games. Cool group. Sounds like you both would fit in.
