We're looking for a couple of local players in the Hampshire area (Alton/Basingstoke/Winchester) that are looking to find a few people to get together for a one-shot to see if we get on and potentially start a campaign.
DMs and Players both welcome as we're just trying to see who's in the area that might be interested in playing
Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Face-to-Face Experience: Any Location/Timezone: UK Availability: Sunday evenings Preferred role: DM / Player Game style: Casual, roleplay - just there to have fun!
So far we've got two experienced players, both having DM experience but would prefer to be players for now - but not against DMing if that's how things end up.
Send me a DM or reply to this post and we'll see how it goes from there!
Thanks for the reply. I'm about a 15min walk from Winchester high Street so quite close.
Is the shop the one in the Brooks shopping centre? If it is I know the one, and actually walked past there yesterday and saw a few ppl in there sat down playing something.
I would really appreciate any help, and happy to pop along whenever works best for ppl, just to get an idea of the basics, and meet some fellow gamers. :)
We're actually from Alton, so about 25 mins down the road from Winchester unfortunately. I'm still happy to help where I can though.
I think though the one you walked past is "Comics, Games & Coffee" near HMV, and i've also seen them run a few games. Chances are they've got contacts in the area even if they're full, and the chap in their knows his stuff and the locals quite well.
There's also a group called The Southampton Guild (http://southamptonguild.co.uk/) that I think are still running and can put you in touch with a few people, they play at the Art House which is close to the train station in East Park. They run quite a few games and are more of a collection of groups rather than just a handful of players.
Other than that, there's a few online groups out there that are always looking for players and welcome people new to it. If you've got Discord, try searching for "DnDUK" and "Dungeons and Dragons UK", both groups have options for arranging face-to-face and online games. Online has improved dramatically since the pandemic and people with this are typically helpful, patient and without judgement, and want you to join in the fun. There's always going go to be a few people out there but just be sensible and know what's not for you, but I guarantee there's a group somewhere out there with your name on it.
Whatever happens, stick with it - you're heading in the right direction and will find a group soon. It took me about 3 tough groups before I found a long term one that lasted about 3 years, then when that split due to covid, it took me another 3 or 4 goes but I've found two incredible groups and loving my DnD at the moment.
Another newbie here, any chance you guys found a face to face group
I am in the Southampton area, but could travel to winchester to play.
There is a group in Southampton called "the Southampton guild of Role players" which I an going to check out soon, maybe there is something similar in winchester
I've recommended Southampton guild of Role players to a few people but never had any interaction with them myself, but heard only good things.
Worst case scenario, head into any local game shops and ask there - there's usually a newbie friendly game around but if not, there'll at least be some information

Hiya,
Completely new to DnD but been watching campaign videos on YouTube recently and interested in getting involved with a local group.
Did you manage to find any players?
Let me know. Thanks
Hey - thanks for getting in touch! We found a local shop that started running sessions about 3 weeks after I posted the original post.
Are you in the local area? We've not got too much space in the shop but I'd be happy to help point you in the right direction?

Let me know how you get on with the Southampton group.
I'm like you, I can travel between Winchester and Southampton if there's a good group. Just wanna get involved and have some RPG fun.
