REFLECTIONS OF COMBAT - a mini-shot

Start on Friday night, 22 March 2024. Registration ends on Wednesday night, 20 March 2024.

Game: Current D&D Beyond Basic Rules, PHB, MM, DMG, SCAG, TCE, and XGE are shared content
Group Type: Play-by-Post using Discord | Age Restricted
Experience: New, Novice, or Returning to D&D or new to Play-by-Post format or players who want to try other characters
Location: DM is based in South Carolina, but players can be...anywhere!
Availability: DM (and NPCs) responds daily to posts with possible updates, if needed, on Tuesday and Friday nights, in which, the DM will move the story along. Players are expected to periodically check, respond, interact, and/or post once-a-day. A player who hasn't participated for a 24-hour period may have their character controlled by the DM and/or put into a "permanent long rest."
Roles Sought: A maximum of 5 player-characters of level 5 using only D&D Beyond 5e Basic Rules, PHB, MM, DMG, SCAG, TCE, and XGE shared content. NO STARTING MAGIC ITEMS IN INVENTORY INCLUDING POTIONS, SCROLLS, ETC.
Game Style: Fun, casual, small one-shot (Mini-Shot) using the Play-by-Post format on Discord

What is Play-by-Post (PbP)? Using text-based narration and collaboration, PbP is a role-playing game system, in which, players interact with each other and the environment via text-chat like Discord to create a fun, collaborative story of the imagination. Like other TTRPGs, PbP is moderated by a dungeon master who controls all aspects of the game - except the actions, reactions, and narrations of the players.

What is a Mini-Shot? Usually a one-page dungeon or area and using a short, self-contained, story arc, detailed location descriptions, fun combat with monsters, challenging puzzles, and interesting NPCs, a DDB mini-shot is a small, single adventure designed to be played by new players to introduce and learn D&D while also giving experienced players a fun adventure. Using Discord, a mini-shot PbP lasts less than a month IRL.

How Do You Join the Mini-Shot? First, using the shared content, create a character on D&D Beyond | https://www.dndbeyond.com | Second, on the D&D Beyond 'Looking for Players & Groups' forum post, reply with your understanding of the Discord server guidelines and your willingness to participate. Invites to the mini-shot (campaign) will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis using the forum post replies. Third, join the UNCL3's D&D Basement of Mini-Shots Discord server linked here | https://discord.gg/dWAxpqrhjA.

Beginning Narration of Reflections of Combat - a mini-shot

Traveling North from Waterdeep along the Long Road, a fellowship of adventurers developed. Some met along the road before Amphail. The last was met at the Swinging Sword Inn in Red Larch where the fellowship, while drinking, listened to the proprietor, a sturdy human female named Kaylessa Irkell, talk about the rumors of gates which opened portals to the Moonshaes, The Vast, the Tashlalar, and other strange places. After a long rest at the Swinging Sword, the fellowship continued North stopping at a small tavern halfway to Westbridge.

In the morning after a long rest at the Rat's Nest Tavern, the fellowship talks to Gagdalk, an old male goblin who is the owner of the tavern, about the death of his wife, Zaldar. "She went down to the cellar to fetch some provisions, and a giant rat attacked her. Bit her as she opened the door. We've never had a problem with rats, so she was surprised by the attack. From some unknown disease, she died a few days later." The loss and sadness visible on Gagdalk's face as he contines.

"I dabble in potion making. If you'd clear out the rats in the cellar, then I will give each of you a POTION OF HEALING."

The fellowship agrees to rid the cellar of the rats.

After giving the fellowship the key to the locked cellar door, Gagdalk says, "Here is the cellar key. I locked the door after a lone explorer went into the cellar and never returned. I'm sure he too was bitten and died. He was a strange fellow. Wore purple clothes and a headband. He only had a backpack and a short sword."

The fellowship finds themselves single-file on the stairs leading down to the cellar and standing before the locked cellar door.
