“not a lot of us left that remember. The elven folk and other such long lived fellows. You ask some yun'un about the sun they'll tell you its not much of nothing. But us older folks we remember. We remember when the sun shone in the sky a great ball of fire yellow and bright. How it lit up the sky and turned our black roof into a beautiful shade of blue each day. Its all gone now. All cuz of that stag... it all started when it dropped out of the sky one day no ryhme or reason for it. Slept a hundred years draped across the eastern province like the continent wuz its bed. Slept a hundred years without a peep it did then one day it opened its eyes, stood itself up, raised its head high above the clouds and swallowed the sun. it didnt actually swallow the entire sun thats just what people say. But when it opened its mouth, its head so big you could see it clean from the other side of the world, a steady stream flowed from the sun into it. Ever since then the sky has been black. No light reaches us. Or at least not enough. Not enough to grow crops. Not enough to know the joys of daylight. Not enough to protect us from the horrors of night. Worse yet are the cryers. Whispermen some call them. Thats how it starts, whispers in your mind. Telling you to do things. Terrible things. Maddening things. Soon their skin goes white, black tears stain their cheeks and eyes, hair falls out, teeth grow sharps, they grow feral but they never stop whispering. Im an old man ive stood on the wall and fought the creatures off when they come back home and they always come home. The whispering. It digs into your mind until you find yourself listening. Trying to hear what they are saying. Dont... whatever you do, do not hear the whispermen.. because if you do.. youll find yourself whispering along...”
the campaign takes place on the planet of Faldun. Where an enormous eldritch stag has caused a never ending night. Very few settlements still survive holding out in the dark against regular attacks from the monsters that lurk in the dark outside civilized places. Only a few dozen walled off towns and cities still survive governed only by their local leaders and communicating with their neighbors only rarely as caravans scarcely survive a trip through the dark. The merchants guild is the lifeline that keeps trade open and cities communicating sending these caravans along guarded heavily by skilled mercenaries. You are one of these skilled mercenaries arriving from separate caravans to the distant western town of closeport, a tiny oceanside town on the western edge of the continent that survives mostly by selling lantern oil to the merchant guild in exchange for supplies. What happens next is up to fate...
prepare yourself for a dark fantasy adventure. The stars have gone out. The spirit world is silent. The future is uncertain and the world is ending. Will you find a way to avert this catasrophy or is this simply a farewell tour? Face unique enemies and a blend of eldritch horror and dnd action. Players will start at level 3 and gain up to 4 levels as they progress through actions they complete in game and personal accomplishments to the characters.
