Experience: I've played TTRPGs for literally decades, but I have never run a 5e campaign before.
Location/Timezone: EST
Schedule: TBD, based on the schedules of all participants.
Roles sought: As DM, I'm looking for 3-4 players.
Game style: A homebrew campaign in which I will be striving for a balanced mix of RP, Combat, and Puzzle-solving. (But please see below for more details.)
FINAL UPDATE: This game is now closed. DMs are going out to the players selected. Thank you all for submissions. If you weren't selected, don't despair; I am probably going to run a second table at a different time; please watch for a DM from me in the next couple of days.
Greetings! Since I can't find a game to join as a player, you have all forced me to become a DM again. :-)
I will be running a homebrew campaign in a world setting of my own creation. The campaign is RAW (Rules As Written) and all official sources to which I have access will be permitted. Players will begin at level Zero (yes, you read that right, Level Zero, not level 1) and will begin playing from Session Zero.
This campaign will be run using DnDBeyond and AboveVTT. (Please note that I am inexperienced with AboveVTT, so I will have a learning curve there.) Players invited to this game will not need to purchase anything, as they will have access to all the official resources associated with my account.
I am mainly looking for players who are new to 5e.; however, experienced players will be welcomed, too, if they think they will have the requisite patience to deal with a group of predominately neophyte players and DM. :-) Imagination is the primary criteria for selection.
If this sounds like a campaign you would like to participate in, please replay to this post with:
- A short paragraph stating why I should select you for this campaign
- A 2nd short paragraph describing your ideal fantasy character, one that reflects who you would like to play in a DnD campaign AND that reflects who you are as a person in the Real World. In otherwords,
Update #1: I failed to be clear in establishing the criteria for applications to this campaign; please accept my apologies. To clarify the specifics regarding the 2nd requested paragraph: Please provide a single paragraph that describes your ideal fantasy character that ALSO reflects who you are as a person in the Real World. Are you a mage, a cleric, a barbarian? Why?
Hi there! I'm Keir, and I've been looking for a group to play with since my friends and I finished up a virtual campaign. Our campaign (Strahd module) was my first, and there was certainly a learning curve for me, but by the end I had really gotten the hang of game mechanics, both through playing with my more experienced friends and consuming an ungodly amount of Critical Role! I'd like to join this campaign so I get the chance to continue learning the game in a supportive, patient setting, and hopefully get the chance to make some new friends!
I absolutely love the fantasy genre. My ideal character is typically one that is an outcast/misfit in some way who goes on a journey of self-acceptance. I have a half-elven sorcerer I'd like to play who fits this to a tee. I also just love "badass" characters with a questionable moral compass, I have a human rogue character in development using these criteria.
Feel free to DM me, I'm available most evenings to play and am located in MA! :)
Hello! My name is Garrett and I'm 32 and in CST. I actually am an experienced player but started my table top experience more heavily in other TTRPG systems. I love playing table top games and love seeing others get into table top as well, so I think I would enjoy getting with a group of newer players. I've only been playing 5e since 2020 but started my whole experience with The One Ring several years ago.
As for a character I would like to play, I really enjoy playing support or tanks in TTRPGs so ideally I would probably go for a Cleric or Paladin. Though if anyone wants to play those classes, I am also open to playing another. But generally I enjoy playing characters that are empathetic that are open to talking it out as opposed to swinging weapons. There is more than one way to solve a problem and that's one of the things I enjoy most about table top games.
I appreciate you reading this over and look forward to possibly hearing more!
Hello, my name is Nate. I've been playing D&D on and off for years. I love roleplaying and team work; especially when creatively trying to solve a problem. Very loyal and dedicated player. I like to see all players have their moments and enjoy the comradarie that comes with a long term campaign. Currently been in a Star Wars FFG that's been going on three years now. Having a seasoned DM with an open world intrigues me and I'd love to be chosen.
I really gravitate towards my Drakewarden Ranger who saved a baby drake and is now struggling to be a parent to a thing that's probably older than he is. The whole eye in the sky, support character thrust in over his head aspect really appeals to me. Especially cause he's never been one for the lime light, yet is constantly being pulled out of his comfort zone to provide for this responsibility. He starts off kinda like Hawkeye from Avengers where he prefers to view things from a distance; assisting where needed and calling out targets.
I do have a concept for each class, so, session zero, I would be willing to fill in what's needed. Like the Ranger concept above, I care about the team and ensuring that we all have fun cause I'm going to have fun just being a part of it.
Introduction: I have been DMing for a few years with a personal friend group of mine. However, I've never had the opportunity to play as a player and would very much like to give a try from the other side of the DM screen. However, the prospect of either of my friends DMing is something they can't bring themselves to do.
I love RAW since it provides clear expectations of how actions play out. I'm big on maps and character art. I had concept art for my players in their first campaign commissioned as a "we did our first campaign" celebration gift. I love equal balances of puzzles, exploration, combat, and heavy story campaigns with decisions having weight and meaning.
I have all DM books through D&D Beyond.
Time Zone: PST
Character: I have been wanting to play a Life Cleric who is Chaotic Good, who sees that life for the sake of life is no life at all. In addition to curing and healing he encourages those around him to live. He drinks (responsibly), sings, and dances.
I believe I and my two friends would be a perfect fit for this campaign as we are brand new to DnD in its entirety and are eager to dive in. We would not see any learning curves as a deterrent or an experience to merely tolerate, but embrace the experience as a bonding exercise. We would be imaginative, quirky, and interested in the promised variety of game play your homebrew offers.
My ideal character is a Dragonborn Druid, who has struggled throughout her life to find deep and meaningful connections with her peers. She, like myself, can appreciate brief but genuine relationships, but most treasures her most intimate and enduring ones. She prefers to preserve her true form for these, anxious that people cannot easily accept her real self. Her alignment is neutral, seeing every life as having its own intrinsic value, and seeking to serve the greater good of all, particlarily through balance, in true Druid fashion.
I am looking for individual submissions; unfortunately, I cannot, for a variety of reasons, accept group submissions. Those reasons are related to Session Zero.
If you and your friends are still interested in my campaign, please have them make individual submissions according to the request I made in the initial post. I understand that you all want to play together, so in their submissions, the should explicitly state that they are a friend of mineBlackshamrock. That way I can keep you folks together.
I consume a lot of DnD media. I just recently finished all the available episodes of DnDnD, am currently getting into Not another DnD Podcast, watched the first couple campaigns of Dimension20(Before Dropout) and usually have some sort of DnD game up on the TV for background. I have yet to participate in a group campaign, but I ran Death knights squire and part of The Wolves of Langston solo so I have an idea of how mechanics work. I was just about to re-launch Roll20 for TWoL and thought, "heck, why not see what's on the LFP boards" , so here I am!
Time Zone: EST. Weekends and evenings work best
Your posts says "ideal fantasy character" that reflects you and the character you want to play, so this character has always been in the back of my mind, but I'm not sure it would work:
Some sort of artificer or engineer that builds contraptions to solve even the most mundane problems. Think of Robin Williams in Flubber. Why spend 6 minutes doing something when you can spend six hours automating it type of mentality. He'd always be rooting around in trash bins for bits and bobs and putting together contraptions that end up almost blowing him up more frequently then he'd like to admit.
In a more traditional style, I have a Red Dragon Born build that focuses more on cunning and street smarts then brute strength and an idea for a Bard based on Flak Tansin from DnDnD.
If there is still room here, I appreciate your consideration!
Just some clarification for my second paragraph: I have struggled with anxiety and OCD for most of my life, and it’s taken me years to rein these two diagnoses in enough to the point where I can function in everyday situations. I feel connected to sorcerers because of this — they were born with these powers, whether they like them or not, and many spend most of their youth/young adult years trying to master them. The sorcerer character I would like to play was also ridiculed for her differences as a draconic sorcerer as a child, and has had to overcome years of bullying and isolation to get to the point she’s at. Likewise, I was a victim of bullying in middle school, and in addition to my anxiety and OCD, I had to fight against low self worth and social phobias because of this.
As for rogues, I don’t necessarily relate to them all that much — I’m a rule follower and am generally an “eye for an eye” type of person. I’d never deliberately try to hurt someone or negatively affect them. As thieves, criminals, and assassins, I feel like I am not similar to them. However, rogue characters I like usually use their position to stick up for the little guy. Think Robin Hood. As a victim of bullying, i always try to stand up for others and I feel like rogues present an interesting way to roleplay that since they operate outside of societal norms and rules.
I could also relate to a Druid, as I love animals and nature, but sorcerers are the class I really can identify with.

I'm new to D&D. I've done my research on the basics though so I will certainly not slow anyone down. I love roleplaying and as a young person, I have plenty of energy and time to play frequently.
My ideal fantasy character is that of the dwarven race because I see them in a lot of fantasy world. In fact, I think they're in all of them. That makes me pretty familiar with them. That said, I'm as short as a dwarf myself, so I can practically embody them. Any personality goes as long as it's close to mine since I'm not great at acting as my polar opposite. I'm careless as I can be levelheaded, chatty as I can be stoic, and distracted as I can be serious. In a lot of fantasy world, dwarves were always crafty blacksmiths who forge the adventurer's weapons. I relate to that kind of artistry. My level or relatedness goes through my own veins. That's right, I'm a dwarf parading as a human being.
You should select me for this campaign because I've come into a lot of free time in my evenings for the next 3 months. For background, I'm a 30 yo male resident physician who is on my last rotation of residency at a remote location in Maine (EST) and so have a lot of free time. I'm fairly creative and looking to start DMing myself with some friends once I move in 3 months but really hoping to get a solid foundation in playing first and hoping to keep this going.
My ideal fantasy character is a Fire Genasi Monk (would hope to multiclass into artificer or something else) who has been enslaved upon a waterbound vessel (ship) limiting his abilities. He eventually escaped after doing a fair amount of time and using his ingenuity and studies (he was able to study a lot on the ship which is where he learned his monk ways - not a true monastic type). He's fairly care-free and has a silly but also dark sense of humor. He's primarily motivated by an almost religious zealous ideal of freedom (this is where he's monk like from his studies - think someone who has read a lot of Descartes or some idealogic writer) leading him to do often irrationally free or disinhibit anything no matter how bound or enslaved and whether or not it's a good thing (chaotic good). He puts his foot in his mouth often though and is quicker to act than to think things through though he is fairly smart.
As I said, I'm in residency which some degree is like an indentured servitude and while I've learned a lot and been rigorous in my studies, it's quelled a lot of creative freedom that I love (I'm a former theatre kid). That's how this character mirrors me.
My discord is albinosaurusx.
