I'm running a couple D&D campaigns on Sundays through startplaying.games.
While they're paid campaigns, I do understand that for many people paying for D&D isn't an option, and getting a regular group going can be extremely difficult. This is doubly so for minorities and underserved communities who, ironically, can stand to gain the most from the type of social experiences TTRPGs deliver.
Since I'm aware I don't live in a bubble and the sole fact that I could learn to host these games and that I can take the time to plan campaigns to entertain others is a form of privilege, I've decided to offer a seat in each of my ongoing campaigns for free, ideally for people from underserved communities - those who stand to gain from the experiences but for whom several things inherent to the requirements of a TTRPG group (payment, mobility, area you live in, social isolation) can make it extremely difficult to either get one going or find one to join.
I have an open seat on each for people who could use the experience. No prior experience with D&D is required, although I'm running both campaigns as RP-heavy ones where your ability to roleplay (or desire to learn) will matter much more than your ability or desire to optimize a build and go for combat.
Other than allowing people from minorities and marginalized groups to join above others for whom finding or starting a TTRPG group might not be particularly difficult, the only heavy requirements I have for people seeking this spot are:
Follow the rules. Mainly, no bigotry of any kind is allowed in my tables. No racism, no sexism, no anti-LGBTQ speech of any type will be allowed. Being excellent to each other is a hard requirement, and you will get immediately booted if this line is crossed. My tables are safe spaces and shall remain so.
Compromise to attend. My experience trying to form free groups has seen them turn into revolving doors where people will often signup only to cancel at last minute because of "schedule changes" or simply because they never cared much to begin with. While TTRPGs can work in ultra-casual manners, that is better left for groups running one-shots, "monster of the week" kind of stories. Campaigns can take a lot of time to prepare for a DM, and for the other players in the table each session represents a time investment too - please respect that and do everything in your power to stay in the campaign for the long term. Someone having to leave after ten sessions because of schedule changes is understandable. Missing out on every other session because your friends invited you to do something else isn't.
Beyond that, the only relevant information for the games is that it's being ran through Discord for voice chat (so you'll need the software and the ability to use voice chat - video is not necessary) and using Fantasy Grounds Unity for maps and sheet tracking, so access to a PC or Mac that can run the demo version of FGU (I have Ultimate, so no purchase will be required on your part) is required.
If anyone is interested, please hit me up and we can schedule a chat via Discord. Thanks!
If anyone is interested in joining my paid campaigns outside my diversity seat program, you can do so through StartPlayingGames. My profile is here: https://startplaying.games/gm/tizzy
I am willing to play but I have a friend I'm trying to play with so if you can manage 2 free seats on one of those campaigns we'd love to play hit me back on discord at
You are so terrific. I am about ready to pay for a game, so I'd like to bookmark your page at start playing (Sundays don't work for me right now, just fyi). Would you message me a link please?
I've updated the list of campaigns I'm currently needing seats for along with their dates and times, as I felt reusing the thread could be preferable to creating a new one.
Anyone who's interested, let me know via here or via PM.
Both adventures also have several paid seats open, so if you're interested but don't qualify for the fee seats hit me up.
Hey Tizzysawr!! I was wondering if I could join this campaign. I should say I have never been in a campaign before but non the less I would be able to talk through discord about joining and my roleplay skills are pretty good so I don't think I'll have trouble in that area. We can talk more about this through discord my account is vin’eo#0328 so just contact me there and we can talk more. :)
