MINTARN: Session Zero

SESSION ZERO will start on Friday, 24 May.

The island of Mintarn lay 400 miles southwest of Waterdeep, in the Sea of Swords.. Mintarn was a popular safe haven for those fleeing the authorities as well as neutral ground for conflicting parties to come to accord. This beautiful island asked no questions and turned no one away.

The Mintarn series of mini-shots will be linked to create a continuous "open-world" adventure. Each mini-shot takes a month or two IRL to complete. The complete series of Mintarn mini-shots could take YEARS!

Mintarn: Session Zero is the mini-shot to introduce the DM and the players along with presenting the MINTARN: SESSION ZERO rules for character creation. The Session Zero mini-shot will also review expectations, guidelines, rules, DDB-to-Discord link, etc. and include a Q&A discussion.

DM NOTE: Player-Characters can drop-in/drop-out between mini-shots in the series; however, their characters do NOT level up unless their characters complete the experience milestones. In other words, the Mintarn series of mini-shots may have characters of different levels participating in the mini-shots.

 Game: Current D&D Beyond Basic Rules, PHB, MM, DMG, SCAG, TCE, and XGE are shared content
Group Type: Play-by-Post using Discord | Age Restricted
Experience: New, Novice, or Returning to D&D or new to Play-by-Post format or players who want to try other characters
Location: DM is based in South Carolina, but players can be...anywhere!
Availability: DM (and NPCs) responds daily to posts with possible updates, if needed, on Tuesday and Friday nights, in which, the DM will move the story along. Players are expected to periodically check, respond, interact, and/or post once-a-day. A player who hasn't participated for a 24-hour period may have their character controlled by the DM and/or put into a "permanent long rest."
Roles Sought: A maximum of 4 player-characters of level 1 using only the MINTARN: SESSION ZERO rules of character creation.
Game Style: Fun, casual, small one-shot (Mini-Shot) using the Play-by-Post format on Discord

What is Play-by-Post (PbP)? Using text-based narration and collaboration, PbP is a role-playing game system, in which, players interact with each other and the environment via text-chat like Discord to create a fun, collaborative story of the imagination. Like other TTRPGs, PbP is moderated by a dungeon master who controls all aspects of the game - except the actions, reactions, and narrations of the players.

What is a Mini-Shot? Usually a one-page dungeon or area and using a short, self-contained, story arc, detailed location descriptions, fun combat with monsters, challenging puzzles, and interesting NPCs, a DDB mini-shot is a small, single adventure designed to be played by new players to introduce and learn D&D while also giving experienced players a fun adventure. Using Discord, a mini-shot PbP lasts less than two months IRL.

How Do You Join the Mini-Shot? First, on the D&D Beyond 'Looking for Players & Groups' forum post, reply with your understanding of the Discord server guidelines and your willingness to participate. Invites to the mini-shot (campaign) will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis using the forum post replies. Second, join the UNCL3's D&D Basement of Mini-Shots Discord server linked here | https://discord.gg/dWAxpqrhjA. Third, using the MINTARN: SESSION ZERO content and rules, create a Level 1 character on D&D Beyond | https://www.dndbeyond.com

MINTARN: SESSION ZERO RULES OF CHARACTER CREATION

Either on the PC or DDB app, these rules and steps will guide you through character creation for Mintarn mini-shots:
1. Use the standard character creation method to create a Level 1 character.
2. Give your character only a first name.
3. Unselect ALL sources and partnered content.
4. Enable or select dice rolling.
5. Unselect both optional features.
6. Select "Milestone" advancement type.
7. Select "Fixed" hit point type.
8. Select both use prerequisites.
9. Select show level-scaled spells.
10. Select "Use Encumbrance" encumbrance type.
11. Unselect ignore coin weight.
12. Select "Modifiers Top" ability score/modifiers display.
13. Select "Public" character privacy.
14. Choose "Human" race (NOT variant human). *Yes, all player-characters in Mintarn are human.*
15. Do NOT choose your extra language.
16. Choose one class from the following list: Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard.
17. Choose and complete class features and spells, if applicable.
18. Use the "Standard Array” method to choose and apply ability scores.
19. Select a portrait to give your character a "face."
20. Select "Custom Background" background; however, do not configure.
21. Do not enter any character details.
22. Enter any physical characteristics to customize the description of your character.
23. Do not enter any personal characteristics nor notes.
24. Add items "Clothes, Common" as your only equipment.

⚠️DM NOTE: The DM will enter a FLAW in the Flaws section of each character description. This FLAW will be triggered by any Natural 10 rolled for an attack, a check, or a save. This is a Mintarn house rule.

I think I understand the Discord Server Guidelines and I am willing to participate in your campaign...it sounds exactly what I am looking for. I am familiar with D&D, but I am new to Discord and am trying to figure it out, so your understanding (and a little help) will be appreciated.
