I think im asking that correctly. So im still new to this but have learned quite a bit so far. Now im currently in group where mainly everything is being done through discord, like we only have dnd beyond up for the sheet that's it really.
Or is that how this is normally played? Like i was kinda hoping for a blend of the two. Im basing this off how i think my friend played DnD in front of me. I think he was using Beyond and discord to communicate with everyone. I really didnt ask him much, didnt wanna bother the process happening, plus I was distracted with my own other game. So is that just another method to play? like now that i think about it i guess im asking for a bit more RPing involved i think, not having to type EVERYTHING typed dialogue and commands in discord.
If any of that made sense of what im asking for please hit me up lol, it just seemed like a more fun way to play to me.
ALSO, is it normal to use the same character from other groups? like i wanna keep my lvl 4 tiefling if i find a group that plays how i wanna play and continue from there, or is it a rule to start fresh each group? Or does it come down to what the new group and DM's decision?
Sorry for the read, but if someone could at least just give me answers I'd greatly appreciate it. Can reach me on here or my discord (iArchnine) Thank you

Usually, people use discord to talk and use roll 20 for maps
