How does one kill a god?

Not by force, but by subterfuge. Not through strength, but through willpower. Not face to face, but behind their back.

Things haven’t been the same since the rise and fall of Xenagos, the satyr who attempted and temporarily ascended to godhood before being struck down. In the years since, the once lost polis of Olantin rose back to the surface, and with it, the secrets of the past have also returned, from secrets of science to arts to magic. But one secret has the power to change the very foundation of civilization—the secret of the gods’ powers.

In this Theros-based campaign, your character has been wronged by one of the gods of Theros. Your character, along with your eventual party members also wronged by that same god, has been summoned by a mysterious benefactor with a simple offer—a way to take down a god. The journey won’t be simple. Subtlety and strategy will be key, but should you succeed, Theros will be forever changed.

Game Summary

Game: D&D 5e

Group Type: Online – Discord (for Voice), D&D Beyond (for Character Sheets), and Roll20 (Optional)

Experience: No prior experience necessary, but familiarity with Theros lore is a plus

Time zone: US Central Standard Time (CST)

Schedule: Monday nights at 7:30pm CST, approximately 3-hour sessions

Roles sought: Looking for 3-4 Players open to collaboration and interest in roleplay and story

Game style: This game is planned to be a roleplay-heavy, political intrigue campaign set in Theros. Combat is currently planned to be narrative-based (based on the players’ actions and choices) and, consequently, theater of the mind. If the campaign organically evolves to regularly involve combat, we may move to Roll20, but please only apply if you are okay with theater of the mind.

If the premise of this campaign interests you, please reply below and fill out the following form: here.  As a note, this is NOT first come, first served.  I will be leaving the form open for approximately a week to give people ample time to express interest and then fill out the form.  After the week, I will review the applications and reach out to people to discuss further.  I'm hoping to take time to ensure that we have a great group for this campaign.

Expectations

• Must be 18+, but 21+ preferred (I’m 30 and prefer people in my general age range)
• Must be LGBTQ+ and POC Friendly (no bigotry will be tolerated)
• Must be willing to actively engage in the story and fellow players
• Story and character focused
• Committed and invested (this isn’t intended to be a “show up, play, leave” type of game (to confirm that you’ve read this whole post, when you fill out the form I PM you, please include the word plagiarism in one of your responses on the form))
• Clear and open communication

Character Creation

• Race options generally limited to Theros races, but can discuss borrowing non-Theros races’ mechanics (e.g., playing a Leonin but with Tabaxi mechanics)
• Any Class/Subclass from official published content, including Blood Hunter
• 30 point buy with a maximum of 18 before any bonuses (unless party prefers to roll for stats)
• Free Supernatural Gift
• Use of Piety System (select a Theros god)
• Free magic item based on chosen Theros god given around Session 0
• Free story-driven Feat given as part of a 1-on-1 Session 0.5

Additional Rules

• Milestone Leveling: The party will level based on story progression, achievements, and major events. Characters will also receive powerups by staying in character or by serving their chosen deity.
• Multi-Classing: Multi-Classing is allowed so long as it makes thematic and story sense.
• Homebrew: Outside of the magic item given to each character, homebrew will be generally limited, at least at the start. That said, I’m open to homebrew that helps flavor characters based on players’ desires (e.g., changing weapon stats so a martial can wield their chosen weapon or changing the damage type of certain spells for an elemental-themed spellcaster).

I’d love to give this a shot! I own the Theros book and I’ve always been interested in it for the longest time. The one issue is that I am 19 :(
