I've been running this game since March, and we've all been having a great time! Over the past couple of months, however, we have unfortunately lost a couple of players due to illness and family emergencies. This leaves us with 2 players, and while i'm famous in my groups for saying that i'll run a campaign even if i'm only left with a single player who enjoys what's happening, I would definitely prefer to have at least 3. If a story-focused game based on your characters and their relationship to the world and the rest of the party sounds like your cup of tea, we'd be happy to have you! I have run games in this world for over 7 years, and every player has made a lasting impact on it that has been felt through the ages! The main villain of the current campaign is even the character of a former player! I look forward to seeing how your actions change the world!
See below for our Discord server. Everyone in the game has the same amount of XP right now, so you would be starting at level 10. I would also like to start you with some magic items as well to keep you on par with the rest of the party. The exact rarity and kind of item is something we can discuss. A couple of players have found artifacts, so I would happily allow you to start with one. Whether you have one in mind or you would like a homebrew one centered around your character and their backstory, i'll be able to work with you!
Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online Experience: Veteran (Over 10 years and 9 full-length campaigns of DM experience) Location/Timezone: GMT -5 (Central Standard Time - US) Schedule: We run our games every Thursday night at 5pm CST! Roles sought: Player (up to 4) Game style: I always try to strike a balance between role-playing, exploration, and combat, but our group loves to inject role-playing into every situation! We may have long stretches with no combat, but I always try to include a little something for everyone and am very flexible with catering to every kind of player! I place a heavy focus on character backstories, and I love weaving in as many elements as possible into the world and story! We're a very casual group who like to joke around, and we're always very excited to welcome newcomers of all skill levels and help them out if needed! We role-play very heavily, but don't feel like you need to be good at it to join up or even speak in-character if that's something you're not comfortable with. I allow multiclassing as well! Chapter 1: The Cost of War and the Dwarven King of Agrammar
The campaign focuses around a fast-approaching apocalypse brewing in the eastern regions of the world of Cor known as the Easterlands. Phobos, the god of darkness, seeks to dominate the mortal realm and usher in an age of darkness where its people serve as tools for the furthering of his loftier goals. After escaping the devastation of the King of Dane's doomed volunteer army wrought by Phobos, the group was given a task by the King's personal bodyguard; get him to safety, no matter the cost. Their journey took them to the Dwarven kingdom of Agrammar, where the King sought to utilize his relationship with the Dwarf King to find passage across the sea back home. Given the dangerous situation in the east, soldiers and airships would be needed to ensure a safe voyage. These were men that could not be spared at the moment, however, due to the recent assassination of the King's heir, the disappearance of his youngest son, and a plot to kill the King himself. Solving the mystery and discovering that the plan was orchestrated by none other than the King's missing son, the party journeyed deep within the mountain to find him and put a stop to this plan before it was too late. Encountering assassins from a legendary house, the party played it smart, infiltrating their hideout and slaying their leader, handing the Dwarf Prince over for judgement at the hands of his father. With the danger having passed for now, and feeling grateful to the party for solving his heir's murder, he grants them a fleet of three airships and soldiers to defend them. At last, they were on their way home... or so they thought.
Chapter 2: The Forgotten
In the northern reaches of the Easterlands, the party was attacked while enroute back home by a swarm of Cloud Wyrms, giant serpentine dragons that, while normally wise and benevolent, have been corrupted by the growing influence of Phobos and his dark magic. Twisted into nightmarish versions of their previous forms, they attacked the airships that were encroaching on their territory. Though our heroes and their entourage fought bravely, the airship fleet was decimated by these monsters, crash landing in the uncharted north. Having lost the King and most of the surviving crew in the confusion, the party was left with a ruined airship and its Head Engineer. So began their journey to find the king and fix their ship. Following rumors of a local tribe of Aarakocra seen with a regal human and a group of Dwarves, the party made their way to the tribe's encampment. After a tense standoff, the tribe's High Seer invited them inside to discuss terms for freeing their friends. The talk was interrupted by the appearance of Avrus, a mighty green dragon who had ruled these lands with an iron fist for over a century. Following the airship crash, he came to investigate, taking not only the King and the Dwarves, but also making off with one of the party members, a sorcerer of Dane known as Darion, who willingly went with the dragon to look after the King. With the help of the tribe's great General, Eru, who saw his chance to rid his people of the dragon menace despite the council's opposition, they set off to the dragon's lair to rescue their friends and kill the fiend. After appearing before the dragon to feign capitulation, they sprung their trap. After a hard-fought battle, the dragon laid slain at the feet of the heroes, the King and most of the Dwarves being found safe and sound. General Eru and the rest of the council declared the group heroes of the tribe, and even the hardass General had to give them words of gratitude.
However, another of our heroes, Velis, found a clue about his heritage. After hiding his undead nature from all but his party, he found a collection of books on all of Cor's most well-known people. After finding a book about the old Elven Queen, and how she was deposed and her entire line destroyed, Velis soon began to put the clues together that he had found thus far. He discovered that he was one of these heirs, who died hundreds of years ago at the hands of rebels. After taking what they needed from the dragon and his lair to repair their ship, they set off once again; due west. Velis kept the revelation of his origins to himself.
Chapter 3: Family, Banquets, and Murder
Dropped off in the Danish trade center of Durlag, the party began to take a well-deserved break. Darion, who was from Durlag and part of a powerful noble family there, discovered that his family had been implicated in the King's disappearance after the battle, a rival family using forged evidence to point the finger at Darion's family for supposedly betraying the army's position. After the party presented the King alive and well, however, they had no choice but to let the family go. To thank the group, Darion's father threw a lavish banquet, inviting every important person in the city to the affair. During the banquet, however, it was revealed that the soup was poisoned in an attempt to kill everyone present. Thankfully, the only one to die was Durlag's mayor. The guards were soon called and Forbin Manor, Darion's home, was put on lockdown until the killer was found. After a lengthy investigation, the group discovered that a group of assassins from a long-thought extinct assassin house related to the house that killed the Dwarven King's son was hired to poison the partygoers. The party discovered the unwitting maid who smuggled the poison in, and eventually the poisoner himself.
He tried to run, but the party managed to catch up with him and capture him, turning him over to the guards. During the party's interrogation of him, however, they activated a magical failsafe in his tattoos, the prisoner's brain being wiped completely and rendering him a vegetable. Their mind reading magic would no longer be of use. However, before they lost their prisoner, they caught glimpses of an ancient, ruined temple where the secretive order trained. Due to the vast knowledge of the party's wizard, Nigel, they identified the temple as a temple to the former dragon god, Bahamut, and even had a short list of temples that they could investigate. They decided upon the closest one; a temple nestled in the Dragontooth Mountains, in the Dragon States of Wabbar, where all dragons had a home. Resupplying themselves and purchasing a few furry companions for the journey, the group set out in an attempt to root out these assassins before they struck again.
Chapter 4: Coldriver and the Teacher
Making their way to the outskirts of the kingdom, the party found the town of Coldriver, where everyone appeared to always be smiling, unnaturally happy. Velis, having learned of the Seven Crowns of his former house, suspected that someone was using one such crown, the Silver Song, to dominate the minds of the town's inhabitants. They heard that the town's mayor, a man referred to as the Teacher, had originally come into town three years ago to seek refuge among the populace. He grew in popularity quickly. Almost unnaturally. Eventually, the citizens overthrew their mayor and placed the Teacher in his place. He now addresses the town every evening at sundown, and the party decided to watch this speech and take the measure of the town's leader. The party was spotted and called up on stage by the man, who personally welcomed them to Coldriver and encouraged the citizens to give the group a warm welcome. He appeared to want them to stay, to which the party asked if they could meet with him. Being led back to the town's keep, the Teacher sat down to a lavish meal with the party. Finding a chance to sneak away, Nigel made himself invisible before searching for clues as to why this town and its citizens gave them a weird feeling. Finding a secret door to a vault beneath the keep, Nigel discovered clues that suggested that the Teacher was dominating the minds of the townspeople. Unfortunately, he had to dispel a magical ward to get inside, which alerted the Teacher to his presence in this secret place. He revealed his true nature after a confrontation with the party who remained at dinner; the Teacher was a lich. While claiming to dominate the townspeople to ease their pain, the group was in agreement that living life controlled by another was no way to live at all. After a fight between him and his dominated minions, the party won handily. Unfortunately, there was a single casualty; one of the Teacher's dominated guards. The rest managed to survive due to Nigel's clever use of magic to keep them out of the fight, but Darion was forced to defend himself against one of them, accidentally killing him in the process. After debriefing the rightfully panicked townspeople, Darion himself was elected the new mayor of Coldriver, agreeing to leave day-to-day operations to a wizard he had befriended as well as his opponent in the election, a Dwarf who had the admiration of the workers of Coldriver. He would sign off on their work from afar as he continued journeying with his party, excited for the opportunity to prove the underhanded ways of his parents wrong.
Last Time...
On the wings of Velis's Awakened Tree polymorphed into a giant Eagle, the group made their way to the derelict Temple of Bahamut. On the way, they met a Silver Dragon who wished to greet them. Apparently, the Draconic Triumvirate that ruled the Dragon States forbade any of their citizens from destroying these assassin as they were not directly threatening the States. What's more, they feared the reaction from the surrounding kingdoms if they directly took the lives of humans. After some convincing however, the group convinced the dragon to help them in secret. With his protection, they safely made it to the temple, where they prepared to hopefully put a stop to the plans of the assassins.
The Other Heroes
Darion Forbin: The middle child of House Forbin, the noble house that governs the city of Durlag. Unlike his parents, who rely on deceit and murder to hold onto power, Darion is a kindhearted, honest individual, sometimes to a fault. He often gets himself in trouble and might not think things through, but his heart is always in the right place and he will put himself in danger without hesitation to help those close to him. He is an idealist, believing in personal freedom and open, honest dialog with one's friends and allies.
Velis: The final surviving member of the old Elven dynasty in Silverfane, home of the Wood Elves. Having been the victim of political execution along with his entire family in his previous life, he has survived as an undead in recent years. After revealing his true nature and the truth of his past to his group, they have resolved to help him reclaim his birthright. Velis is quiet, often preferring to plan and observe instead of playing an active role in most circumstances. However, he is a vicious defender of his group, and will back them up in word and deed when the time comes.
