Very experienced player, have played 1E, 3/3.5E, 4E, and 5E at different times, looking to join an ongoing group as a player or start a new group as a player or DM (I have a lot of DM experience but I love being a player as well). I've been a part of 3 different groups over the past 20 years, but none since COVID (which pretty much ended my last group). My preference is to play in person, I really don't have a desire to play online.
I am pretty flexible on time - probably looking to play 2x/month or so, can be open to which evenings or days work best. Open to location - can play at my place but can travel as well (I am in Plano, so probably somewhere in North Dallas or that general area works best). I'm not that far from Madness Comics if that rings a bell with anyone. I am very open to playing with anyone and any type of person as long as everyone is there to have fun and be respectful and just enjoys gaming as a group. I have played with all ages, from 20's to 60's (I have even taught D&D to kids and teens in the past), so all ages are welcome to me.
Very much like a balanced game - a good story, fun roleplaying, some great combat, and 1/3 of the time just being silly and having fun in general. It's a game and not to be taken too seriously hopefully. When I DM I typically use books/modules that have been written already and then adapt them as I see fit. Am happy to play in other Homebrew campaigns as well. Let me know if you have an interest by responding here - or email me at douglaskoehne@gmail.com.
I live in North Dallas, about 15 minutes from the comic store you mentioned. I've been playing since the late 70s, so 1E, 2E, 3/3.5E (not 4E). I've studied 5E but only played one session a few years ago. I've never played online and it seems to potentially cause a lot of problems that I'd rather not deal with. I've been a DM more than I've been a player, but I don't have the 5E experience to DM ... not right away, at least.
I work full time, but evenings are good and weekends. 2x/month would be doable. I expected to begin travelling for part of my work and it has begun, so I'll have to work around that.
I too like a balanced game. I tend to be pretty serious when I game but that's because I usually DM. I'm more laid back as a player. But a mix of story and combat with roleplay thrown in throughout is fun.
Hey there - just posted for this group again - it has taken a few months but there is some traction on maybe getting a group together. I have had 3 or possibly 4 people reach out about starting a group here in the north Dallas/Plano area. Vys - I think you would be a 4th player (I would be 5). Mike, not sure if you are the Michael who have emailed me, but if you are not, my email address is douglaskoehne@gmail.com if you have an interest. Will be trying to get whomever is interested together here in the next couple of weeks to plan and talk logistics.
