Looking to run a one-shot in my homebrew setting which will focus on sailing to a haunted port town. Need an adventuring crew of 4-5 players total for this story (2/4 already signed up). The game will run from around 1p-4p CST on 10/22/24 if there is enough interest by that time to have a party of 4-5 players. We would use the DND Beyond, Beyond20 browser extension, Roll20, and discord for voice. This game is open to all experience levels but I am unable to help with character creation or setup of the aforementioned applications, which would be the only barrier to entry for a complete newbie to the hobby.
The Isles of Jahara are an archipelago isolated from the rest of the realm. The islands contain harsh, unsettled, and foreboding jungles. They are a naturalist’s paradise full of countless exotic animals, plants, and environments. The islands runs rich with natural resources, including deposits of the coveted mineral "etherium", which is used in the forging of magical items. There were several ancient civilizations that harnessed etherium to build epic empires and legendary artifacts, including the fabled dwarvern mines of Slagforge, the elegant elvish forests of Elisvere, and the ornate human keep of Riven. The former capital, Jaharia, was once a sprawling, magical, tropical paradise known for its exports of magical items, etherium, exotic spices, and vibrantly dyed textiles.
How ruin befell all of these places remains a mystery. Legends whisper of a massive tsunami that drowned out land and washed these societies' artifacts throughout the isles. The only known settlement remaining within the islands is the dingy port town of Bogwharf. This grungy settlement is built within a swamp, and is both haunted and plagued by legions of undead assailants. Unfortunately, it exists as the last bastion of civilization within the islands, and serves as the only launching point for expeditions deeper into the wilderness.
Only the most courageous or foolish of people travel to Jahara willingly. Naturalists may be drawn there to marvel in and protect some of the realms most exotic wildlife. Arcanists may be drawn there by the promise of newfound or lost magics within the enchanted tanglewoods. Holy men may be drawn there by the call to fight back the undead legions amassing on the islands. Criminals may be drawn there to escape their past. Merchants may seek to harness some of the island's rich natural resources. Miners may bee seeking deposits of etherium ore to turn around for profit. Scholars may be drawn there to study extinct civilizations. Adventurers may seek to recover powerful magical artifacts from the ruins therein.
Your story begins on a ship called The Waverunner. You are on a voyage to Bogwharf and have been at sea for over a month. The crew recently spotted land for the first time in ages!
We will be exclusively using the 2024 PHB classes/subclasses/species to create characters. You are the heroes in this story and no evil alignments will be allowed. Use standard array or point buy for ability scores. Take the starting equipment packages from your background and class. Pick or roll for one trinket from the trinket table for flavor. You will start at level 1 and advance to level 3 during the session, so it would be helpful to plan out your choices for the level up.
Feel free to play whatever class you'd like. If party composition matters to you we have a barbarian, a fighter, and a paladin currently - so the group could use some magic if you enjoy casters.

What did your hero do before this journey to Bogwharf?
Why is your hero drawn to the Isles of Jahara?
How might your hero already have ties to someone else in the adventuring party?
This particular session will focus on arriving to the Isles of Jahara, exploring the town of Bogwharf, and starting to get to the bottom of "The Haunting" that plagues the land.
This game takes place within my homebrew world Ashara. For more information about the realm's deities, factions, and cities - feel free to check out the Traveler's Guide to Ashara.
