I'd call myself a moderately-experienced player. Through college and beyond I was a player for 6 years in a multi-campaign homebrew story arc based on 3.5. I started with 5e about two years ago and have loved it. I DMed Curse of Strahd for a few months last year, but I'd really prefer to be a player again.
In person is more my style. I like combat, treasure-hunting, and dungeon-crawling, but I prefer a group and DM that emphasize roleplaying and teamwork. I'm a big fan of Critical Role for that reason (and because it's just fantastic).
If there aren't any groups here in the Portland, ME area, I'm willing to try an online group. But I have ZERO experience with this, so it'll take some getting used to.
I'm also in the Portland, ME area and have been looking for an in person D&D group. I'm most familiar with 5e and have never DMed before, but am not opposed to the idea of trying it out. I'm really down for whatever style or role within the group, but agree that teamwork and roleplaying are super important.
How's your availability? Weekends are best for me, but I can make some weekdays work. I'm also happy to drive if we find more people a little further out. Maybe we can plan a time to all meet at a coffee shop in town? (My favourite right now is Omi's in So Po, because it's fantastic, but I'm always happy to try new places, too)
I've also been trying to find a group through meetup.com, so if I find anyone on there I will let you know!
Pretty much the same as you. Weekends and Friday nights work best for me. I can make some weeknights work, but couldn't stay too late. I can also drive and pick people up depending on what works best for everyone. Coffee Me Up and Dobra are my favorite places in Portland. I've never been to Omi's but it looks great. Hopefully we can get a small group together and meet up soon.
Just to update, I have connected with a new DM through the Portland Tabletop and RPG group on Meetups. He's interested in DMing Lost Mine of Phandelver. I'm hoping to meet with him sometime this weekend to talk about getting started. I'll let you know once I hear back from him. Fingers crossed we can find a couple more people to have a full party!
Hey there, I'm also in Portland, ME and looking for an in person group!
I have minimal experience playing (I've only played a one-shot one time), but a fairly thorough understanding of game mechanics (through religious listening to Critical Role and digging into some D&D books over the past couple years) and a love of character creation / world building / story telling.
Are either of you still looking to put a group together or know of any groups looking for new people?
Hey, I just saw this thread and thought I would see if anyone here was interested. I just posted a thread on this forum, entitled "Looking For Players in the Freeport Maine Area" and this was the message:
I am a DM looking for players to take part in a 5E home-brew campaign I have created. The story takes place around a central story-line and is set in a world I have spent the last couple years creating. Play will be structured around the 5E format with a simple approach to the rules, meaning we'll be in complete 5E format but when in doubt, we're gonna keep it simple. The main focus will be on the action and adventure, and the characters and the connections made between them and other NPCs. I am hoping for a group that would be able to commit to something such as they have in Critical Role, meeting once a week or every other week (sometimes virtually and sometimes in-person) with the campaign going on for upwards of two years. I am looking for players that will really enjoy going deep into their characters and their character's growth as they navigate the world on their mission and on the many side-quests that will develop. Beginner/intermediate/advanced are all welcome, so long as you are ready to take the game and the commitment seriously, and so long as you are ready to laugh a lot and have fun too :-)
Feel free to ask any questions you might have for me as well.
Hey I am a dnd player moderately experienced I don't roleplay that much but would love to try it out I am young 11 i also have my stepdad who could dm we are just looking for players but if not we would like to play
Why is it so impossible to find a D&D 5e group in person. I figured that since people are getting vaccinated, it would be easier, but I guess I was wrong?
I am looking to get an in person 5e game going in Portland, ME. We still need a couple more players as of now. Everything is still tentative but we are most likely going to be meeting every other Saturday. The style will be more narrative driven and character centric. Setting is still undecided. Please post a reply or message me if interested.

Awesome! Thanks so much for responding!

I'd totally be interested. I'd have to have info on when the sessions are, but I'm very interested. I even have a few books and dice.
