The world is about as you remember it, or misremember it
The world is controlled by human perception, anything that humans do not perceive simply doesn't exist until it is. Which also means in this world that common misconceptions can lead to genuine change this is what we call.
**Imagination**
The lifeblood of this world, humans ability to percieve things beyond reality. Everyone in this world has some sort of imagination. Its what keeps the world working. History functions in a linear line because we imagine it to. Currency has a value because we imagine it does. Borders exist because we imagine them. Computers exist because we believe they should.
The abliity of imagination remained unkown to humanity for many years until the Springfield ohio incident. Whenever a unkown anomolous town named springfield ohio appeared in America soon after the Simpsons hit the mainstream. Official records did not record the town and some don't remember it existing prior to the Springfield incident. Including the president at the time. Which is how the phenomena was discovered.
Humans can conjure anything they truly believe in. But those who are younger with a more hyperactive can do this to a much greater degree. Allowing them to give supernatural properties to objects or locations just by believing they are. This is how toys get their powers and abilities through imagination.
**Toys**
While toys can think and imagine things their imagination has no effect on reality. They are fueled by human imagination and can gain more power by getting stronger through fighting their mortal enemy nightmares. This is partially because they become more experienced but more because, it is a unspoken rule that people get stronger the more they fight. In every rpg and story it is so and it has not changed here.
**Nightmares**
Nightmares are the flip side of this. Innate manifestations of humanities uncertainty their fears and their worry. They reside in the abyss. They take imagination from humans and drag it down there. They exist for some reason to sufficiently depower humanity to the point where they would be unable to imagine anything. Toys exist to counteract this and fight nightmares. Since humans cannot tangibly see them or deal with them.
**The Masquerade**
The Masquerade is the concept that toys are not alive. Just inanimate pieces of plastic. The Masquerade must be kept at all costs. Lest all toys perish. It is unkown how or why but if a human percieves a toy as real they become weaker. Until eventually they cease moving. It is why all toys freeze when percieved for self preservation. As such the Masquerade must be kept forevermore.
