(Lore/TLDR at the bottom) In the material plane, in the realm of Nirman, In the Age of the Mother Soulweaver, she had successfully subdued the gods, powerful entities like Death himself, and weaved the hearts of mortals against each other.
The Mother Soulweaver admired the mortals as toys for her entertainment. Drunk in power and in her lust. In a desparate moment, the entity known as Life and the other known as Death created the first chaos magic. An unstable energy of magic itself, that could rupture through the Mother Soulweaver’s threads.
For decades, Life would seek out righteous heroes capable of wielding such power, freeing the gods and destroying the Mother Soulweaver. Death looked through the hordes of creatures of the night, of the hells and the abyss. Scouring those capable of wielding such power and to aid heroes chosen by Life.
Overtime many stood out yet only six mortals could make the cut and survive the struggle until the bitter end. A dragon knight, a human vampire, a tabaxi druid, a yuan ti warlock, a human cleric and a dark elf hunter. These Six were chosen to go up against the Mother Soulweaver. The battle was furious. Both sides had exhausted their armies. This was the end and neither side was going to be able recover if they fell this time.
The party and the Mother Soulweaver fought like demons. By the end of the cataclysmic battle, the dragon knight’s armour was lodged into his body. The vampire was slowly disintegrating in the rising sun with no where to hide for cover. The warlock desperately trying to keep the vampire out of the sunlight. The cleric trying to stabliize their unconscious druid. The hunter trying to keep the dragon knight awake until help came. Whilst the corpse of the Witch Queen that tormented the cosmos for 5000 years lay there dead. This felt more like a defeat than a victory. With the party being filled with despair, Death himself came and used his own body to shield the vampire from the sun by casting a great shadow.
Life commanded the dragonknight to live and he got up as if nothing happened. Life commanded the druid to awaken and so their druid awoke from his deep slumber. Though the cosmic war was over, there needed to be a rebuilding. A restoration of not just people’s lives but hope. Lady Life, offered godhood to the dragon knight for his righteous and blameless character. A role he accepted becoming the god of peace.
Death offered the vampire to become an official house and be the first of his name by becoming the King of the Night creatures, bringing the first Vampire King into existence. A role he accepted by defeating all Eight Vampire Noble houses in single ritual combat under Death’s favour, effectively forcing peace between the living and the night.
Life offered the druid to become the ArchGuardian of the Meadows, a role he accepted to honour his ancestors and nature. Death offered the warlock the mysteries of the cosmos and to be its protector from the horrors beyond mortal comprehension. A role he accepted giving him the title of the Black King. Despite ruling nothing, he stood at the top as the strongest mortal.
Lady Life offered the cleric her own Citadel. A place to become the Grand Commander of everything that was sacred and holy and in pursuit of the preservation of life. A role she accepted to serve the recovering world. Death offered the hunter dominion over the afterlife. Being able to walk on rivers of the afterlife itself. A role she accepted to destroy the things that walk between life and death.
They became known as the Legendary Six - revered like gods, treated like royalty, they stand at the top protecting Nirman. All these things happened thirty years ago.
(TLDR General Plot): Players are a new generation of heroes rising up in a world surrounded by legendary heroes trying to maintain the peace of world. However, with a new generation coming up, mortals often choose poorly drawn by desires of pride and lust undoing the years of peace made by previous generations.
This campaign goes to Level 20. This campaign has been running for a year and the players are currently level 11. They are currently making their way to the desert to find a buried city and fight a Light Lich to claim it's power to strengthen the party's future fight against the BBEG. If you join, you are coming in at the midway point and there is still much to learn, build, grow and accomplish.
