LFP: Domains of Dread Campaign – Seeking a Frontliner (Any Class Not Already in Play)
System: D&D 5e (2024 ruleset, 2014 subclasses considered) Platform: Discord for voice, D&D Beyond for characters, Roll20 for maps Schedule: Alternating Sundays, 7 PM MST Starting Level: 5 Game Style: Dark fantasy horror, tactical combat, roleplay-driven
Campaign Overview
Step into the Domains of Dread, where horror and dark fantasy collide in a high-stakes journey through Ravenloft’s most nightmarish realms. The Carnival has been shattered, its people scattered across the Mists, and the party must recover the lost shards of the legendary blade Nepenthe to find their way home. Each shard is hidden in a different twisted domain, and the path forward is fraught with danger, moral dilemmas, and relentless forces that hunger for the blade’s power.
This is a player-driven campaign with a blend of roleplay, exploration, and high-risk combat. The horror elements range from Gothic and psychological horror to occult and cosmic dread, with an emphasis on tough choices and survival.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking one player to join our group, specifically someone who enjoys playing a frontliner. Our current party already includes a Cleric, Warlock/Paladin, Artificer/Rogue, Cleric, and Fighter. We need a melee combatant who can hold the line in battle and contribute to our party's survivability.
If you enjoy playing a durable, melee-focused character, whether as a defender or aggressive striker, this is your moment to shine!
Ideal players will: ✅ Enjoy tactical combat and resource management ✅ Be open to dark fantasy horror themes (we check in on comfort levels) ✅ Want to collaborate on roleplay and character integration ✅ Be reliable for weekly sessions and excited to commit to an ongoing story
Character Creation & Integration
The campaign is set in Ravenloft, so characters should fit within the horror-fantasy setting. You can introduce your character as one of the following:
Attendee from Mordent – You were at the Carnival when it was torn into the Mists.
Member of Van Richten’s Guild – You were tracking the rogue Archfey when disaster struck.
Carnival Member – A performer or worker from the shattered Carnival. (Opens up more race options but carries risks.)
Native of Borca – A resident of the domain where the Carnival is now stranded.
⚔️ Allowed Races & Classes:
Races: Humans, Half-Elves, Halflings (Lightfoot/Ghostwise), Reborn, Dhampir, Rock Gnomes, Hexbloods, Shadar-Kai, Aasimar, Tieflings. (Other races may be considered with significant roleplay justification, but monstrous races are unlikely to be approved.)
Classes: 2024 PHB classes allowed, 2014 subclasses require discussion. Homebrew/UA not permitted. Artificer, Illriger, and Bloodhunter are allowed.
About the Group & DM
We’re a friendly and collaborative group. Everyone is engaged, helpful, and excited to play. I’ve been DMing one-shots for a while, but this is my first full-length campaign, built week by week to allow for player-driven choices.
As a DM: 🔹 I lean into Rule of Cool—as long as it makes sense and the dice are on your side. 🔹 Combat is challenging—I won’t go out of my way to kill you, but expect to feel the strain and use your resources wisely. 🔹 Roleplay is encouraged but not mandatory—play at your own comfort level.
If this sounds like a good fit, send me a message with your availability, experience, and a bit about the kind of character you’d like to play. Looking forward to welcoming a new blade to the fight! 🔥
Good day! I am very interested in this campaign. I am able to make these times religiously. I am very good with attendance. I am interested in playing a frontline class. I would like to play and orc (possibly as a member of the carnival?) or an aasimar or tiefling with of orc descent not completely committed to any of that I am flexible, just seeing what you guys would be okay with. I am thinking either a paladin (because I never played one), barbarian, fighter, or monk. Bloodhunter and illriger look very fun, never tried it but I am down for new things. I have a bit of experience with DND I have been playing a few years now. Less that I would have liked to play. I currently play in two different campaigns, one as a player, and one as a dm (very new dm). I do like to joke around but I am very respectful of rules and like to play games where things get done. I am also open to trying a character concept suggestion and work with it. I look forward to hearing from you guys.
Very interested with this campaign! I’ve been playing since 1980 and have a wide verity of ideas to fit into a new party. I would be interested in a front line Paladin or Ranger. Perhaps a Halfling Paladin would be fun but that’s just a thought.
If I pass the test let me know, thank you for your time.
Hello, I am interesting in possibly joining this campaign, as I have a character who fits into the world perfectly. She is a half-elf monk whose backstory involves being part of a traveling circus/carnival. I have only been playing for a couple of months but I have a solid understanding of how the game works. I don't want to write on my laptop with a pen. It will ruin it. Nice try!
