SEEKING: Friendly (emphasis on that as I have had to deal with quite a suprising number of players who WEREN'T while DMing here) non-beginner, players, who are 18+, for a long term homebrew campaign. I'm seeking to find a group of five heavy roleplayers, so please do not reply if you are going to be a lurker sitting in the background. (I also ask that people take notes as we will begin each session with me asking somebody to recap what happened the previous one)
ABOUT ME: I’m relatively new to the whole DnD scene – Know the basics, Good at crafting worlds – Use a bit of homebrew rules, and will periodically experiment with tweaking rules and such to make the game flow better, hone my craft, if you will. If the changes aren’t working as I’d hoped, I will immediately revert back. (Will absolutely inform players before I do tweak anything however. Don’t want to surprise or confuse.)
STYLE: This game is going to be a homebrew medieval high seas campaign. A campaign that should have a level of fun and frivolity while also being dark and dangerous. (For resurrection, we will be using the homebrew rules created by Matt Mercer). I simply ask players to not attempt to ruin the more intense moments with bad jokes xD
STORY CONCEPT: Group of nobodys set sail to seek an elusive treasure pirates scour the seas for. The treasure is rumored to be able to alter reality – an artifact able to grant the crew that finds it a single wish each.
CHARACTERS: Looking for Neutral Aligned Characters. (I also ask that we keep genders in this campaign simple – Male/Female, He/She – I have a difficult time keeping all this balanced in reality and thus don’t need the stress of trying to remember fictional characters genders) {Tho I have no objections to a guy playing a female/she fictional character.} This youtube clip should offer help with creating backstories if help is desired. https://youtu.be/vNA6iB6lO1w?si=we2H_ncnIQ_MF--k
REGULAR TIME: Normal meeting will be Wednesday Evenings (likely 5-8 or so). Flexibility is a bonus, as my schedule isn’t as consistent as I would like (thus being able to move to another day if that evening becomes unavailable would be great)
REQUIREMENTS: We will be using DnDbeyond for Character Sheets and Roll20 for our VTT, as well as Discord for our Mics.
{Note: Campaign will not be map heavy but I find a VTT is useful for combat scenarios. Thus, this will require the use of a computer, so I politely ask that you only respond if you have one that can handle it.)
DESIRE: Story is whacky and weird enough. Not looking for joke characters. Seeking the kinds of characters you would find in a typical fantasy world. Also, this is a good, clean, violent campaign. {So there will be no swearing or cussing allowed}.
RESPONSE: If you are interested, please respond here with: 1. Your discord name/number so I am able to reach you. 2.[Over 18 Y/N] 3. How much experience you have at DnD 4. Any idea what type of race/class you'd like to play 5. Potential Character Ideas
POST NOTE: This is a "Long Term" campaign, so please only express interest if you plan on sticking around. I've had way too many people ditch me after only a couple months or as soon as there is a slight bump in the road... after I put a great many hours, and much in session time, working thier backstories into the world.
5-8 in what time zone? I might be interested if the time works.
1. pvgthree 2.Y 3. 7 years of 5e 4. I tend to play "normal" races (half-elves, dwarves, etc.) 5. First character idea: half-elf swashbuckler rogue who is the illegitimate son of a famous pirate that went missing searching for the treasure. Second idea: a humble human cleric is kidnapped by the rest of the party and becomes the resident doctor
1: cosmos721 2: Y 3: I have been DMing for about 10 years, so I have a lot of experience 4: I would want to play a spellcaster of some kind, but not sure what class or race exactly 5: I don't have any ideas yet. It will depend on what the other players choose and what is needed for party composition
1. Discord: Agnati 2.Y 3. Experience: Player since 2014 5e playtest, DM since 2019 4. Preferred class: I'd love to try my hand at a spellcaster or healer, but am 100% down with just filling in a "gap" in the party roles. I'm easy going and just looking to play D&D as a player. 5.First character idea: A Sea Elf orphan raised by any-other-race lighthouse keeper when they found him washed up. Ignorant of his past (giving DM plenty of liberty if you're feeling froggy) and self-conscious as to why he's so much different than even other Elves, he's been out to prove himself, starting off rather unjustifiably-cocky and working from there. Second spit-ball idea: A bitter poacher-turned-sailor when he was caught on the King's land and given the option to hang or pay off the debt fighting the pirate problem at sea. In time, he finds the sea more inviting than the land. Now free of his debt, he seeks riches to change his name, fortune, and in all hopes to resurrect the woman he loved who was lost at sea. Third noodle-to-the-wall idea: a criminal who nearly drowned in a con-gone-bad and was... "saved" by a water-themed diety, becoming a warlock in the process. Speaking in tongues she doesn't know when near deep waters and seeing omens in the foam of ocean waves, she sets sail for treasure to help fulfill her pact.
If the DM has a spark of inspiration and wants to set or change anything in the backstory, I'm all pointed-ears. I like giving the DM the freedom to have some fun with the characters or just make it easier to work things in down the road without too much hassle and as little retcon as DMly possible.
But again, totally up for anything. Not afraid to have weaknesses as I think it makes the game as a whole more fun and engaging.
1. Discord: manbjornpig. 2. I am over 18 3. About 25 years with a 5 year break in there 4. I have lots of ideas but as I am posting this 5th I would rather fill in somewhere as needed 5. I am hoping no one has chosen Wizard as I love playing them. Probably some sort of elemental wizard that helps with winds and such when the ship he is on needs it.
