A player had to drop from the game, so I'm looking for one more player. We have only played so far a short session 1, so it's still a good time to enter.
The party consists of: - Goliath Armorer Artificer - Human Hexblade Warlock - Human Illusion Wizard - Tiefling Dance Bard
Game: D&D 5e (2024 rules) Group type: Online Experience: New / a few years / veteran Location/Timezone: CST Schedule: Sundays 3 PM CST Roles sought: 4-5 Players Game style: High, weird fantasy, a splash of steampunk/sci-fi but with a more grounded, gritty character-driven approach, with room for humor and fun. Welcoming: LGBTQ+, New players, forever DMs (especially forever DMs!), 18+ players
Campaign Pitch: Enter the surreal city of Sigil - bizarre streets, squabbling philosophers, hidden portals around every corner, a sky made of the city itself, and all manner of danger - or friends - from all the Planes living within. Your character is a visitor or native to the City, and through some circumstance, got the attention of a mysterious criminal organization known as the Golden Vault, whether through your own skills as a thief or treasure hunter or whether you owe them a debt for saving you from trouble. Your first tasks for the Vault are basic criminal activities: fencing stolen goods, demanding protection money, etc. However, something went wrong. Your operation was busted by members of the Mercykiller faction, ruthless fighters of anything they deem as crime. You and another NPC you were with during the operation (maybe a partner-in-crime, family member or innocent person) were taken away to a large prison located in the Plane of Water along with several others in the same position. Perhaps these others could help you escape and be allies in the future, as you may need to make up your failures to the Golden Vault by being in charge of high-risk heists.
(Note: Depending on when you can join the campaign, your start may change, but assume this pitch to be true.)
We will mostly be using adventures from the Keys from the Golden Vault book, and adding in elements from the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist book later. Of course, there will also be some homebrew quests of my own design, a lot focusing on the player characters. Since the campaign will revolve around heists, you should come up with a character who fits this theme. Rogues, bards, warlocks, and other miscreants are highly encouraged, but don't let that stop you from trying to play something like a Paladin! Creative ideas are certainly welcome.
This game will be character, roleplay focused though combat will certainly be involved. We will work together on backstory and get hooks to explore quests related to your character. Or you can keep your backstory simple and develop it over time. Not looking for rules lawyers or minmaxers at this time.
Something I'd like to try is a Discord channel for optional, post-session in-character discussion through text provided the in-game situation allows. I've done this before and it was quite successful. If you're up for it, great!
System/Game Info: We will be using D&D 5e 2024 rules (this will be my first time doing these as I have mostly used 2014 rules!). Level 1 start, You may use Class/Spell/Feat/etc sources from 2024 or from 2014 as long as they are from the PHB, Xanathar's Guide or Tasha's. Other options available upon request. Bans include Eloquence Bard, Twilight Cleric and Peace Cleric. As for races/species, to keep things simple, we will just be using the 2024 rules species. So aasimar, dragonborn, dwarf, elf, gnome, goliath, halfling, human, orc, tiefling. Half-elves and half-orcs are also fine.
Also, a little about me, I'm Sabre, 25, he/him, I've been playing D&D and other systems for about 7 years now and mostly DMing for the past 5. I like to go for a game with serious moments and character development, de-emphasizing rolls and going more for player agency, but of course with funny moments too. If you want a game with a more old-school feel but with deeper characters, you're more than welcome to apply and I'd love to have you on! My biggest influences flavor-wise are Final Fantasy, Knights of the Old Republic, the Elder Scrolls, Conan the Barbarian and for this game, heist movies!
I will keep this up at least for a day and reach out & possibly do a short interview for those I like. Thanks for taking a look!
