You awaken to the stench of mold with a loamy hint. Darkness surrounds you and your now open eyes perform little better than when they were closed. You are surrounded by rock, staunch walls preventing any escape. The only exit is blocked by thick iron bars, which only lead to more cave. You have no weapons, no armor, magic doesn't function, and you are bound with chains. You are trapped.
A Drow priestess comes before you and tells you your life is no longer yours. It belongs to her. Your destiny is to be a slave of the Drow until such time you can no longer serve, then you will be cast aside. You are worth only what work you can do for them, and that is all. This is your fate, forevermore.
You are whipped. You are beaten. You are stepped on. You are spit on. They laugh at you for your peril. Made to work at the prison you now live in, your fingers bleed for no gain. This is suppose to be your life now? No. No, it will not be so. You WILL escape. You must. But even if you manage that seemingly impossible task, you are still trapped countless miles beneath the surface world. What dangers lurk in those dark tunnels? For all you know, you could travel the rest of your life and never see the sunlight ever again. But you can't let that stop you. This will not be your life. You will do whatever it takes to see that sunlight once again.
Out of the Abyss is a level 1-15 campaign that starts the players off as prisoners with nothing and then thrusts them into the Underdark with nary but their wits about them. Danger lurks around every corner and the party must work together. Survival is key, but if you're smart about how you go about things, you just might see the light of the sun once again. However, surviving and escape isn't the only trouble you will face. Something is stirring in the dark that was better left undisturbed and now the whole of the Underdark, and perhaps even the entire world, could be in peril.
