Hi I’m a 50+ newbie to D&D so to clarify I played D&D back in the 80’s but so much has changed since then I need to start over and learn the game again even though I understand the core mechanics for the most part. I would like to find an ongoing campaign or even a one shot that will accept new players and have the patience to help teach an old dog new tricks. I would prefer an older group but I’m open to anything. I’m retired so I have time to play. I usual roll a rogue (thief) type ranger. I have a character sheet on dnd beyond. thank you in advance. Look forward to meeting new friends and getting some miles on my character.
Hi thank you for the reply! I’m in the EST zone but I’m retired and anytime works. I do have discord. KaptKrash is my handle. like I said I understand the basics just need to learn the stuff I’m a little unsure about. I love playing RPG video games especially BG3. Love to chat with you. Thank you again.
I'm in the same age range, started playing in the 80's too. However, I've been playing 5e for almost 5 years now. I just finished up with a long term campaign and I'm looking to join another one. I'm floater_dnd on discord.
Birds of a feather.....Pretty much exact same situation. Would love to find a low-level starter campaign. I'm Finnatae on Discord as well. I have a couple fighters created using the 2024 free rules on D&D Beyond.
Hi, I sent you a friend request on discord. I would also send this guy Cheez_Weezle a message he starting a game tomorrow with me and two others might be worth a shot.
Played AD&D a lot in HS back in early 80s and haven't played since, you know, back when I had hair. Thought about getting back into it but I get enough of kids in their early 20s at home and hanging out at a game shop is not really my vibe and seems a bit creepy to me, so I found this and thought I might find some like minded adventurers. Just started rolling up a Ranger here for what it's worth, but I don't have any mileage on it so I guess Id be open to other classes. I have a Discord account but not sure Ive really discorded, is that a word? Im in EST but still working so would likely be looking for something on weekends I think.
Hey all, I'm in the same age range and situation. Looking for a group (and DM) who'd like to start at level 1 and work through a campaign on a regular basis. I'm east coast US and work during weekdays so I'm mostly available evenings or weekends. Since I haven't played in years (decades, yikes) I'd prefer to to play one of the top-tier premade modules rather than homebrew content at this point. I'm xarvet_ on discord
Hi everyone im a little younger only in my mid 30s lol but i am a professional dungeon master and if you are looking for a new campaign to play id be happy to run one for you heres a link to my startplay Dungeon Masters profile you can check me out and the several adventures and campaigns i hAve post though if you we’re interested in something else just let me know https://startplaying.games/gm/https---startplaying-games-gm-cm5tutled000dkkdynp6pwzhs
I realize that it's now mid-June 2025 as I reply to a thread started last year, but I'm also in my mid-50s, and I haven't played since 3/3.5 in the late 90s/early aughts. I have the 2024 PHB, and I'm curious about how 5.5 plays, if any VTT groups that are welcoming to veteran/older players have any spaces open. I am morgondir on Discord, and I'm on Roll20 as well, I am GMT-5 (CDT). =)
So I recently decided I was going to look for a group and just stumbled on this thread. I'm in a similar way. I'll be 55 this year and grew up with AD&D. I got the Basic Red Box D&D set around 1980 but my first regular organized play was in 1982 in my Jr. High AD&D Club. I played that 1e throughout high school and into college where 2E emerged. I then took a long break until later in the early aughts I played in a 3/3.5E group with some bookstore work friends. I haven’t played any D&D in the two decades since save online NWN2 (3.5E) and BG3 (5E). Last year I visited with some college friends who still play and recently as I’ve been playing a BG3 mod to the 2024 ruleset that sort of piqued a reinterest I decided to pick up the new 2024 5e core three books: phb, dmg, and mm. I’m now looking for a ttg but it sounds like vtt and discord work well from what I can discern reading up so Idk really. I'm old but I'm new to 5e and online. I'm in the RI/SEMA (EST) area for tt but online anywhere I reckon for vtt. Discord is crispywalrus.
I am glad to see that all of you found this old thread (pardon the double entendre). I hope you are able to get something going with “The Old School Gamers Club”. Good luck and Happy Gaming!!
I'm a veteran free DM, based in Toronto. I am old school, more of a narrative type. I could take 6 players on a 2 year long campaign, based on Tomb of Annihilation, Curse of Stradh, Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, Mines of Moria, Pharaoh, etc.
Hey all, great thread. I too am an old school DnDer, player and DM from back in the 80s. Also started in a jr. high dnd club. Played 1e and 2e until the middle of the 90s then bowed out until a little over a year ago. My wife, who had never played before suddenly became interested and we are looking for a group of mature players. We are both 50+. We are EST and can play most evenings or weekends anytime. My discord handle is katsguy14. Would love to find a group that can take 2 players.

Greetings KaptKrash,
I read your post and think that we may have a lot in common, I, too, started playing D&D in the 1980’s and started playing D&D 5th Edition this year.
I am looking for players to fill vacancies left by players who dropped out.
I like the fact that you have some free time….it might match my weird work hours and availability. I also enjoy helping new players learn the ropes.
What is your time zone? Do you use Discord?
