Style: 2014 5th edition with some modifications from 2024 (healing, in particular) + Homebrew (see below for a note on Krynn subclasses)
The game: A bone-deep chill runs through you, rippling across the skin and settling in your bones. No breeze stirs. No winds whip. It should be comfortable: The calm, soft, silvery and purple light of Rosohna - the City of Rebirth - washes over you, bathing everything in a peaceful glow. Yet, you shiver. Something is amiss. You pull your cloak tightly around yourself and brace for...something. Something feels off.
The War of Ash and Light left scars across more than just the physical terrain and bodies of soldiers. The campaign begins directly before the peace talks between the Empire and Dynasty under the soft glowing lights of Rosohna as invisible hands seem to be stretching the fabric of the city to its breaking point. For whatever reason, your character has been pulled into an invisible web wrapping ever more tightly across the city. Will you be a force of peace or will you be part of part of the chaotic wind sweeping across the city? Will outside forces cause the cauldron to boil over or will the Dynasty emerge - once again - reborn.
Me: Hi! My name is Chris. I am a huge nerd (love books, history, philosophy, and painting minis) and I love sharing stories. I love those stories that gather us together and force us to question ourselves and our world (Is this what I/we could/should be? How would I respond if pressed like this?) and in so doing offer the chance of becoming better. This love, and a need to avoid grad paper, led me to D&D 10 years ago and few things bring me more joy than sharing in the telling of such stories.
I enjoy crafting deeply role-play driven, richly textured, lived-in worlds with NPCs worth caring about, beautiful scenery, and that match strong with player agency. My heart for games lies in hospitality: welcoming and teaching new players (I taught at university for 7ish years). I also love offering others the wide welcome I received when I started playing. I will offer and protect that for you.
What I offer: (from a StartPlaying review): "Book him today. Book him yesterday. I have been playing with Chris for a year now. As a DM, he has fostered some of the best player-dm customization I have ever experienced as a veteran player. He is the epitome of "yes and", enthusiastically working with you to make bespoke character options and engaging gameplay so that you feel the most amount of agency and creativity at the table. As a storyteller, he is incredibly engaging in his ability to juggle humor and gravitas, to allow characters to exist in their sandbox while making the world around them feel so vivid. His attention to detail along with his ability to riff makes it feel like you are walking through a real world when he DMs, and yet not once did I ever feel railroaded or feel like I was being orated to rather than in a collaborative game. I wish I could give him more stars than just 5 and wish I could use all the GM tags because he hits every single one."
For all players: I love teaching the game but also love challenging experienced players. If I speak of balance, it’s about the balance of the whole group and that each feels their choices and builds matter. That said, I may not be the DM for those who have dominating 'main character' energy. I also have a couple Krynn subclasses available - Oath of the Light paladin, College of the Fatesinger - working on a couple more).
