At my table, players will have plenty of opportunities to roleplay with other PCs and NPCs if that is their thing - if not, that is fine too. There will also be a healthy dose of combat. When possible, I will also incorporate some puzzles to solve.
I believe that rules are meant to be bent. You will have plenty of opportunities to add some flair to your characters' actions, possibly adding an additional effect to an attack on an enemy or gaining advantage on a persuasion check by finding a creative way to gain favor with a guard to get them to help you or simply let you get past them. There is a time and place for following rules as written, but Rule of Cool is way more fun!
