Plot
Welcome to the World of Montel
Montel is a realm of breathtaking wonder—its oceans a deep cerulean blue, its rivers clear as glass, its endless green plains framed by towering, snow-capped mountains. Countless peoples and creatures call this world home, and today, it thrives in a golden age of peace and discovery. The dawn of the Scientific Era has ushered in unprecedented innovation. Ingenious inventions reshape everyday life, while new modes of travel carry explorers farther than ever before. Rail lines cut like silver threads across continents, binding together bustling cities and distant villages. Above them, Victory-class airships drift gracefully through the skies, ferrying passengers and cargo across vast distances. In medicine, breakthroughs once thought impossible have eradicated ancient plagues, ushering in a brighter, healthier future this brilliant era was nearly extinguished.
Three hundred and seventy-two years ago, Montel endured a calamity known as the Great Judgment, an event that plunged the world into terror and shadow. Those long-lived enough to remember still speak of the blackened sky, of thunderous clouds that devoured the sun, and of the constant rain of white ash that poisoned the land. Disease swept across nations; famine followed. At the center of this doom stood the once mighty nation of Destern, far across the seas of Ascus a kingdom erased from the world by a monstrous, eternal storm. Unknown to most, a handful of nameless heroes rose against it. Their sacrifice was absolute. Their deeds saved the world, though their names were lost to time. When the storm finally broke and sunlight pierced the gloom once more, warmth and hope returned to Montel expect Destern. the storm retreated to the nation, and now lies forever entombed within its cursed storm. No ship, spell, or expedition has ever breached the barrier. Like a living wall, it repels all who dare approach, keeping the secrets of its fall sealed away. Sailors brave enough to approach Destern returned with tales of a vortex of ash and lightning, an impenetrable barrier swirling like the wrath of forgotten gods. Within its heart lurked the Judgment itself, a force so vast it threatened to annihilate all life on Montel.
For now, the world endures. But mysteries do not sleep forever.
After the veil has fallen When the Great Judgment finally subsided and sunlight returned to Montel, the world began the long task of rebuilding. But the devastation ran deeper than any survivor could have imagined. The ash storms claimed nearly half the world’s population. Yet even more catastrophic was the toll on magic itself. Mystical creatures, beings of arcane nature, and gifted spellcasters suffered most. The ash acted like a poison, eroding magic at its source. Those who survived found their powers fractured once-vast reservoirs reduced to dying embers. The ley lines, Montel’s ancient conduits of magical energy, were torn apart. Once vibrant currents that encircled the world, they now lay silent and severed. Magic all but died. But amid the ruins of Destern, something miraculous emerged from the ruins of the pass. fragments of pure arcane essence had awaken in gems that were once harvested from Desteren and sold to the world. These came to be known as Eden Crystals. named for the hope that they might restore what had been lost. Eden Crystals could rekindle a spellcaster’s connection to magic, bypassing the ruptured ley lines entirely. To mages, they were salvation. To nations, power. To the world, the promise of rebirth. But they were exceedingly rare. As word of the crystals spread, they became the most coveted resource in Montel. Wars erupted. Alliances formed and crumbled. Entire economies shifted. Power structures across the world trembled.
The Modern Era ( where are story starts ) Over the past fifteen years, fascination with Destern’s lost island has surged into near-obsession. Thousands of theories swirl lately on why the storm persists, what caused the Great Judgment, and whether the truth still waits within the vortex. At the center of this global movement stands The Expeditionary Force, united under the banner of the White Rose the ancient crest of the influential Delcourse family. To skeptics, the White Rose represents folly: a dream for zealots, fools, and adventurers chasing ghosts. But the world tells a different story. Behind closed doors, nations, monarchs, scholars, and wealthy patrons have quietly poured resources into the Delacorce endeavor. For twelve years, this coalition has built something extraordinary in secret, an undertaking that draws doctors, scientists, engineers, soldiers, and visionaries of every discipline. Whispers travel the continents: rumors of revolutionary machines, groundbreaking strategies, and incredible new technologies forged for one purpose, to pierce the veil surrounding Destern. Now, the Expeditionary Force prepares to unveil their creation. Recruitment notices sweep across the world, calling for skilled adventurers, researchers, mercenaries, and dreamers. The pay is unprecedented. The risks incalculable. Will they succeed where countless others have failed? Or will they vanish into legend, another cautionary tale swallowed by the storm?
