In a small, fertile valley in the northwest of the Cliffkeep Mountains is a small village founded by Tal’Dorei homesteaders just ten years ago. This simple settlement of Reaching Bluff is inhabited by hardy folk seeking new places to mine gold and iron from the earth. Many unpleasant exiles from Kraghammer have joined them, so while this village has a charming, rustic atmosphere, few travelers stay for long. The hostility toward outsiders is palpable to all.
This insular attitude has only grown more hostile following the discovery of a gleaming dodecahedron about the size of a human head. One of the miners who unearthed it found that her pickaxe barely scratched its surface—and when struck, it began emanating a radiant, internal golden glow. This mystical object was returned to the village foredwarf, and before the day was out, all the villagers had learned of it. The people of Reaching Bluff call it the Lost Beacon of Unknown Light, and worship it as a god.
Might wanna do a short starter campaign beforehand so be ok with that. Just to see if we all mesh well.
This is a place where if you go, you go for a reason. What reason could your characters possibly have for traveling to such a remote place? Are they on the run and want to get as far away from civilization as possible? Perhaps you are an adventure sent to investigate the sight of giantkin in alarming numbers starting to make movements. Were you sent by the Ashari of Terrah or the other three tribes to investigate this Lost Beacon of Unknown Light? Or perhaps you were sent from another continent all together where the tales of such a beacon sparked interested in a certain Dynasty? whatever the reason, this seemingly insignificant village will be remembered as one of the sparks to light a great fuse. One of many pebbles that will unleash a rumbling. The Rumbling.
Alright, you will be starting at lv 3 and rolling for stats. Your stats must have a combined total of 72 with at least one score being a 15 or higher. You re roll until both requirements are met. 2024 rules will be used but your stats and starting feat wont be determined by your background. You can choose those as you see fit. It is one of the few things about the new rules I don't like. Post application here as mentioned below.
I hope to make a campaign where we can have fun and hopefully become a group for future adventures and junk.

Name: Galbatorix
Race/subrace: Human
Class/subclass: Warlock
Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.): Galbatorix is a former noble prodigy who became obsessed with the nature of power, authority, and control. Rather than serving gods, institutions, or traditions, he believe hierarchy is an inevitable force of reality—with himself positioned at its peak. He prefers calculated action over emotion, and see most people as either assets, obstacles, or subjects yet to be brought under order. He is calm, deliberate, and rarely display open emotion. Every interaction is measured, and every relationship is evaluated through usefulness and influence. His magic is tied to draconic and ancient arcane forces, which he views not as mystical gifts, but as tools of rightful dominance over reality itself. He does not seek chaos or destruction, but a structured world where authority is absolute and unquestioned.

Good with using Beyond for character creation and maps?: Yup, used to it.
Got a good mic and able to speak fluent English? Need to be able to understand you: I have a 100+$ mic and English is second nature language to me.
Able to meet at the approximate time posted for 3-4 hours as a general rule?: I take attendance quite seriously and in case I cannot make it in rare instances, I would always prioritize letting you know
No seriously, can you commit and not just fudge off?: Absofudginglutely

If it's ok I won't really provide a direct char just because I have quite a few and I usually make a brand new one for campaigns anyway to really make them fit in. I also prefer to just see what others are choosing so I don't potentially grab someone's fav class (I know you can have duplicate classes, but most people will feel inclined to pick a different one).
What I can let you know, is that I usually play races from the Monsters of the Universe book and/or Dragonborn, but since we are doing 2024, I suppose that means Dragonborn then! I also tend to pick Spellcasting classes, rarely ever picking purely martial ones. I like my spells! Druid being my fav with Wizard being second fav.

Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.): As a kid who grew up in the foster system tends to do when they spend year after year getting passed over, they find any way they can to survive after they're kicked out for being too old. I was a street urchin who stole to survive and eat, barter for drink, and traded odd jobs for places to stay where and when I could. I never knew my parents, never really had any outside the workers at the orphanage. It wasn't until I watched a rag tag group come together and decide to form a party, one I tried to get invited to and it worked, for once. I finally found people I can travel with and hopefully depend on the way I count on them.
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lv 3?: I was part of a group who stole some precious jewels, gold, and magic items in a massive heist from a very influential family. We got away with it, but afterwards we were robbed and I woke up unconscious hours later in an alley. In another case, I infiltrated a group who believe me to be part of them, but I'm a double agent working for someone else?
Things you or your character want to do or experience: Wants to find a family, wants to find a place she belongs, maybe find a way to get her own ship since she's always been fascinated by the sea but never been out on the sea and has only ever seen the ocean, but never been in it or on it.

Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.): Minmial Oma is an aasimar ranger and former soldier, shaped by a lifelong awareness that she was different. Born under a celestial omen, she grew up guided by instincts and visions she didn’t fully understand until a wandering priest, Seren Valis, revealed her divine heritage. With that knowledge, she chose to train both her body and spirit, becoming a disciplined hunter of threats that lurk beyond the safety of civilization.
Now traveling as a protector aligned with the Dawnwatch, Minmial is calm, observant, and driven by a strong sense of duty. She seeks to stand between the innocent and the darkness she knows is spreading, while her past and celestial calling continue to pull her toward something greater—and more dangerous—than she fully understands.
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lv 3?: Minmial proved herself by defending a remote village from shadow-touched beasts and later tracking down and defeating a corrupted creature tied to a growing darkness. These victories earned her recognition within the Dawnwatch and solidified her role as a capable hunter of supernatural threats.

Name: Orrian Vaelithar
Race/subrace: High Elf
Class/subclass: Oath of the Ancients Paladin multiclassed with Clockwork Sorcerer
Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.):
Orrian Vaelithar was born beneath the luminous canopies of Syngorn, where time itself seemed to drift more slowly and deliberately than in the outside world. Like many high elves, his life began in quiet study, steeped in tradition, magic, and the perfection of form. Yet even among his people, Orrian was… different. From a young age, he perceived patterns others could not. The rhythm of falling leaves, the precise interval between heartbeats, the geometric symmetry in spellwork—these were not merely observations to him, but truths. Laws. Certainties. The world, he believed, was meant to function in perfect balance.
Orrian traveled to Emon, where he trained alongside knights and guardians, learning martial discipline to complement his innate arcane gifts. His fighting style is precise and deliberate—each strike measured, each movement efficient, as though guided by unseen calculations. He walks the roads of Tal'Dorei not as a wanderer without purpose, but as a seeker of hidden truths—threads of order woven beneath a chaotic world. He is drawn to ancient sites where the boundaries between planes grow thin, believing these places echo with the fundamental laws that shape existence. Ruins touched by forgotten magic, dormant ley lines, and relics tied to the structure of reality itself all call to him.
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lv 3?:
On the eastern trade road between Emon and the wild frontiers, a small settlement known as Larkreach Crossing fell into quiet crisis. Caravans arrived at the wrong times—or not at all. Crops failed in strange, repeating patterns. Livestock wandered in perfect circles until they collapsed from exhaustion. To most, it was misfortune. To Orrian, it was pattern deviation. Investigating the region, Orrian uncovered a partially unearthed ruin beneath the crossing—an ancient site predating modern Tal’Dorei, its architecture marked by impossibly precise geometry. Descending into the ruin alone, Orrian attempted to restore the regulator. But without its missing components, the system began to collapse entirely. The device activated in a last, desperate state, and time fractured around him. He saw multiple outcomes unfold simultaneously. The ruin shifted between states of repair and decay. His own actions echoed forward and backward in sequence
For a brief moment, Orrian stood on the edge of losing himself entirely—his mind fracturing under infinite possibility. Then, something answered. Not a voice, not a being , but a principle. A perfect, unyielding logic—like the turning of endless gears beyond mortal perception. A fragment of the cosmic order underlying all existence aligned with him, not by chance, but because he fit. The infinite reduced to one. His magic manifested—not wild or chaotic—but precise. Arcane energy formed into rotating sigils and interlocking patterns. Time slowed where he willed it, accelerated where needed. The regulator’s erratic pulses synchronized with his own rhythm. In that moment, Orrian did not just wield magic. He became part of the equation.
Things you or your character want to do or experience: Find balance or figure out how to align his abilities within the Oath of the Ancients that he leaned about in Syngorn and the power that has awakened in him to help align order in chaos.

Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.): An orphan abandoned at the Pearl Shrine who tried being an acolyte of the Wildmother. She lost her faith in an accident and left to try to find her connection to the goddess. She ended up joining a sailing crew, later finding out they were smugglers working under Darktow's permission.
The second mate of the ship disagreed with the Captain repeatedly turning down jobs of human smuggling. She was unable to do anything, and is now on land, trying to find her path and stay away from the ocean, until she knows whether Darktow is hunting her or not. She is unsure of where she came from, but is more interested in where she is going.
That's the TL:DR. She has a longer bio with some openings for a DM to put what they want to in it.
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lv 3?: She has learned smuggling and sailing as a boatswain. Her name is known among Darktow, but whether as a traitor or as a noteworthy sailor is up to the DM.

Name: Jack Warren
Race/subrace: Human
Class/subclass: Warlock/Great Old One
Bio: Jack Warren was a run of the mill adventurer from the time he was eighteen. As soon as he could leave home, he did. And life was good, very good. Jack had comrades he could trust to watch his back and he made a decent living while feeling good about his actions. Surely, he would have been on his way to being a celebrated person maybe even a hero. But.. Jack must have had a cursed fate. Because for as good as life was, it all goes away in an instant.
Valen's Hollow, an old water-eroded cave. Unremarkable in its appearance and even more so in the run of the mill goblins that inhabited it. The job should have been simple. Clear out the goblins, check for any potential prisoners or recover bodies, and collect loot to make underwhelming pay more palatable. Run of the mill adventuring stuff. The kind of boring job you take before the big ones came along. That's why the party didn't hesitate to push a little further when they found a hidden door. They assumed the goblins weren't smart enough to figure out the mechanism and that whatever might lie beyond would be a fresh score for themselves. Dank cave walls gave way to ancient looking stone. A long hallways stretched out before them with a soft golden light sitting at the end of it. The light seemed to call to them gently to come and bask themselves in it. And who were they to deny it?
At that moment, Jack was the only one who felt something off. He tried to speak, but found he could not. He tried to stop walking, but his body no longer listened to his command. Trapped within his body, he could only watch with dawning horror as they got closer and closer to the light. Jack could feel the fakeness of its warmth and the glow that had no real life to it. Something terrible was going to happen. And there would be no escaping it. The party entered a stone brick room with a brazier in the center surrounded by some sort of language. There they stood in a circle and gazed into a fire. And the fire seemed alive. It jumped into the air and turned itself into a window. In the last possible moment, Jack managed to get control of one arm to cover one eye and that is the only thing that saved him. Through the mirror, horrors beyond comprehending were shown. Something that must not be seen peered through. Having gazed at it with both eyes, all of the other members of Jack's party turned to husks and died, being dragged into parts unknown. Jack's eye popped free from his face with such an ease that he didn't even feel it. His mind shattered and re-formed with the understanding that in being "spared" that he now would do the bidding of that which cannot be understood.
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lv 3?: After escaping Valen's Hollow, Jack was guided by visions to take his eye into the forest and perform a ritual. Using Illusory Script, he wrote in a similar language to the one he'd witnessed before and used his eye as an offering. It took ten days of praying to the unknowable before his "gift" was accepted. Unfortunately, what he got back in return was not as nice. His eye disappeared and re-appeared several times bigger. A pulsating, bloodshot eye that floated in the air watching him for a moment then disappearing again. But, Jack knows. That eye is always watching.
Things you or your character want to do or experience: I think Jack's whole life has gotten so messed up that he really craves a like sword in the stone moment. Just one moment where he feels like he's chosen/destined for something good.

Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.): Born in a rifenmist jungle tribe that follow the coast south of the kirmont valley, a small group of Orroyen elf leaving a peaceful and isolated life, a bit more sedentary than most. Nulak has always been a bit different, inhabited by a strong wanderlust, he started wandering away from the tomendas by himself for several days at a young age, somehow always coming back unscathed. In one of his more recent "wanderings" (30s) he came back with an unusual finding, a warhammer with a gold medalion embedded in the side of the stone head with a strong wooden handle appearing to have been grown into the stone head. The Elders of the tribe identified it as a weapon wielded by followers of the changebringer fighting back against the iron authority in their attempts to march on the rifenmist jungle in the past. The elders decided that the weapon should be put back where it was found (saying it was threatening the peace, a bad omen) as he was traveling back X started experiencing dreams he would wake from in sweat, left with only a feeling that putting back the weapon would bring tragedies, getting stronger as he got closer to his destination. What was supposed to be his last night left him with a vivid image in the morning. An image of him traveling beyond the jungle toward a beacon of light very far to the north, warhammer in hand and the words "be free" whispered to his hear. Now convinced that embracing his thirst for seeing more of the world was his calling he changed his direction, starting his journey north
Nulak doesn't really know where he is going or why really, he follows the conviction that he is being guided by something greater.
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lv 3?: Traveling from the rifenmist jungle to the cliffkeep mountains crossing almost the entire Tal'dorei continent from south to north alone visiting shrines dedicated to the changebringer along the way

Name: Zanar Earthbound
Race/subrace: Air Genasi (Orc parantage)
Class/subclass: Paladin/Oath of the Noble Genies
Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.):
Born to the Air Ashari people of Zephrah, Zanar was raised to respect the power of the elements, yet was highly curious about the forces at play beyond the rift his people guarded. He would spend many hours idly watching the energies of the rift to the Elemental Plane of Air roil and shift, in awe of the might and majesty that lay beyond, and would often dream of those that roamed that land, or those who once roamed Tal'dorei. He developed a reverence for the elemental powers as a whole, not just the element his people practiced, and instead wielded all 4 elements equally, forsaking the harmony his people attempted to teach him, and instead focused on the raw power they represented. His attitude worried some, being likened to the now defunct "Hishari" people who revered the Primordials of old, but Zanar did care for his people, and his devotion to protecting people was evident, so for the time he was simply watched.
One day, Zanar was part of a small excursion through the rift to the Plane of Air, and his group was set upon by powerful elementals not long after passing through the rift. Zanar fought valiantly, and the fight spilled through the rift and onto the material plane, when Zanar recklessly called upon the full might of the elements at his command to push back the foes, which had the unintended effect of drawing power from the rift itself, causing it to destabilize and risk collapse. Only the swift action of the Voice of the Tempest averted disaster as she restabilized the rift and swiftly dispatched the remaining elementals. Zanar found himself on the receiving end of his people's fury, risking not only his people but all of Tal'dorei by damaging the rift. For his part, Zanar showed remorse for what he did, but refused to apologize for what he had done, having come to see his people's attitude of stewardship over the elements as arrogant and shortsighted, as the elements are not forces of harmony, but of creation and destruction. For his actions and words, Zanar was exiled from Zephrah, and from the Ashari as a whole, forbidden from entering their villages again. Zanar, no longer tied to his people, has taken to adventuring; still possessed of a desire to protect people, he aims to share his reverence for the elements to those he protects, and to share the destructive powers he wields against all those who would do wrong.
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lv 3?: Despite being forbidden from entering Ashari villages, he accepted a job with a group headed to the Earth Ashari village of Terrah, to help disperse upstart Druids unaffiliated with the Ashari. During the job, he managed to make a short pilgrimage into the Rift to the Elemental Plane of Earth, only staying long enough to offer a prayer to the elemental powers before slipping back.
Things you or your character want to do or experience: A possible reconciliation with the Ashari, interactions with powerful elemental beings (Genies and the like), political shenanigans
Experience in D&D?: Been playing off and on since 79'-80'. Favorite editions so far would be 3.5, 5.5, 2.5 (seem to enjoy those half versions).
Know anything about Critical Role?: I've watched the animated shows, the first 20 or so episodes of season 3, and I stay current with season 4. I am COMPLETELY uninitiated with Tal'dorei though (regions, politics, personalities, etc...)
Good with using Beyond for character creation and maps?: Yes for character creation. Proficient with Inkarnate for building maps.
Got a good mic and able to speak fluent English? Need to be able to understand you: Yes to both questions.
Able to meet at the approximate time posted for 3-4 hours as a general rule?: Yup
No seriously, can you commit and not just fudge off?: Wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it.

Name: Dj'on Bandula
Race/subrace: Dhakaani Guul’dar (Bugbear)
Class/subclass: Pugilist (Squared Circle)
Bio:
Dj’on (“Jon”) Bandula was born among the Dhakaani Guul’dar—“strong folk” praised for backbreaking labor and the battlefield courage that earns atcha, glory bought with risk. But Dj’on’s strength was claimed by others first: he grew up as a labor slave, hauling stone and timber beneath the lash, watching freedom remain a horizon he could never reach by obedience alone. In the camps, the only door left unlocked was the fighting pit. Dj’on stepped through it willingly—not because he loved bloodshed, but because every bout was a measured strike against his chains. Ten victories later, scarred and unbowed, he was granted the only prize the overseers respected: his freedom, paid for in sweat, pain, and a name whispered with wary respect.
The open road proved no kinder than captivity—hunger, suspicion, and hard nights under colder stars—but hardship had already been his tutor. Drifting from job to job, Dj’on eventually found himself in Reaching Bluff, a place as wary of outsiders as any he’d known. He endured the stares and tests with the same resilience that carried him through the pits, taking the heaviest work without complaint and keeping his word when others would bargain it away. He still isn’t a “local,” not truly, yet he’s no longer easy prey: the town has learned he’s a hard worker, a steady ally, and a proficient fighter who doesn’t seek trouble—but will finish it. And in quiet moments, when the wind off the bluff sounds like distant drums, Dj’on wonders if atcha is more than a legend… and whether the next battle he chooses will finally be his own.
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lv 3?: The battles for his freedom and the wandering until he found Reaching Bluff.
Things you or your character want to do or experience: Dj'on wil eventually find some balance within himself (will multiclass with Monk later) that he will use to compliment his unarmed fighting. He will eventually combine the two paths to create his own "Fighting Style" (dual Escrima sticks) which I've created a homebrew option that you could review to approve/reject as seen fit.
Experience in D&D: I have played dnd 5e, 5.5e, and Pathfinder since 2018. I am a relatively new dm, roughly 1 year of experience.
Know anything about critical role?: I watched the first season, the cartoon version, but otherwise no.

Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.):
I have a whole document for this but the general idea is: She is a Volstrucker (under Trent Ikithon (or maybe someone else if this is after Ikithon was imprisoned) - who has been closely watched for how her celestial abilities interacts with Dunamantic Magic. And has been studying magic mostly privately (some at the Soltryce Academy) for most of her life. So she could easily have been sent to this village because there is a beacon there, be it to study it - or outright steal it to bring it back to her Master for further study.
Anything noteworthy your character has done to get to lv 3?:
Became a Volstrucker, and as a Volstrucker she has done many things on behalf of the Empire and her Master. From subtrefuge, to outright assassinations. She is a powerful tool for the Empire and on behalf of the empire/ her Master.
Things you or your character want to do or experience:
- explore the parts of her backstory that I leave open to DM input. (Like her celestial heritage), uhhh see if she stays the course as a volstrucker and all that entails or if she is coaxed away from that life. Also, she would love to figure out what became of her mortal family back in Blumenthal because due, it seems, to the intensity of her arcane studies (alot of room for DM input here) she does not remember what happened to them after she left with Master Ikithon to study with him/at the Soltryce Academy. Uhhhh I just wanna tell a good story xP

Race/subrace: Orroyen tribes elf
Class/subclass: Changebringer cleric, twillight domain
Bio (Try for a decent paragraph or two. Your background is a large part of whether or not ill even consider you.):
Born in a rifenmist jungle tribe that follow the coast south of the kirmont valley, a small group of Orroyen elf leaving a peaceful and isolated life, a bit more sedentary than most.

Also here is my Google doc of my backstory:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DzbuxSmc71Izu2hCxHoS1xom6kzXQMezW2s-RYQ6MgQ/edit?usp=drivesdk
