The World: Aethel's Grasp
The world has ended, but it refused to die. Outside the towering obsidian walls of the Citadel, the Divine Rot—a malignant, biological decay—consumes everything it touches, leaving only twisted husks and weeping shadows. The Citadel remains the last bastion of humanity, a grey, clinical city where survival is guaranteed only through absolute compliance. Here, the walls and safety of the Citadel keeps the Rot at bay, but the price of safety is your freedom and your memories.
The Legacy: A World Scarred by Choice
This campaign takes place in a living homebrew world shaped by the actions of those who came before. Our previous campaign concluded with a catastrophic event that has left a permanent "Rupture" to the Shadowfell, a dark bleed that now threatens the stability of the Citadel’s outer hamlets, and thus, the security of the last Bastion known to exist. In Aethel's Grasp, the world does not reset; it bleeds. Your triumphs and failures will be etched into the history of the map.
The Mission: The Whisperwall Resistance
You are a member of the Whisperwall Resistance, a lean cell of outcasts operating from the shadows of Whisperwall, a small hamlet outside the Citadel. While the masses worship the Architect as a divine savior, your group has seen the glitches in this so-called faith. We will be engaging in classic dungeon crawls into "Abandoned Prototypes" of the Citadel to recover archaic stone tablets. These relics hold Chrono-Echoes—the "Truth" of a God who might actually have been a man.
About the DM & Group
The DM: I am a Gen X Queer (she/her) DM who focuses on storytelling, consequences, and macabre world-building.
The Squad: You will be joining an active group of four players who prioritize atmosphere and narrative depth.
The Process: Since we are a tight-knit group, the existing four players will help choose the final member to ensure the best table chemistry.
Cost: Free. We are looking for a fellow Gen X player who wants to help build this story and help shape my homebrew world. I also have one shots based on quirky adventure cats, or one shots based on character backgrounds (where we explore in depth something that has happened to your character or your character's family).
The Application Process
Please answer with the following questions in this thread or DM me directly: Generation: Are you Gen X (without giving an age)? Safety & Tone: Are you comfortable with a grim world and high-stakes in-world consequences, including the permanent death of your character? Concept: What kind of character are you thinking of creating? The "Grey" Test: Our world features moral dilemmas where there is often no "perfect" right answer. How do you feel about playing a character who has to make hard choices between survival and morality? Collaborative Style: We are a tight-knit group that values narrative over "winning" the game. Do you enjoy character-driven roleplay and investigating world lore over pure combat? Tech Check: Do you have a reliable setup for Discord (voice), Roll20, and D&D Beyond?

Generation: Are you Gen X (without giving an age)? No... Safety & Tone: Are you comfortable with a grim world and high-stakes in-world consequences, including the permanent death of your character? YES and YES. Concept: What kind of character are you thinking of creating? AnAssassin Subclass. The "Grey" Test: Our world features moral dilemmas where there is often no "perfect" right answer. How do you feel about playing a character who has to make hard choices between survival and morality? Perfect morality is for stock photos. I’m interested in the messy, high-stakes stuff—if my OC don't look like the villain to someone, I’m clearly playing it too safe. Collaborative Style: We are a tight-knit group that values narrative over "winning" the game. Do you enjoy character-driven roleplay and investigating world lore over pure combat? I’d take a compelling, tragic, or complex character arc over a winning stat sheet any day. Tech Check: Do you have a reliable setup for Discord (voice), Roll20, and D&D Beyond? YES.
