Game: D&D 5e

Group type: Online

Experience: Never been a DM online, but plenty of times in person. We’ll be using fantasy grounds for combat and the like, which I’m new at using. I do have the ultimate edition if players simply have the demo version.

Location/Timezone: EST

Schedule: Probably weekly, Tuesday or Thursday nights from roughly 7pm to 10pm

Roles sought: 4 to 6 players (of at least 18 years of age or older). New or experienced.

I’ve decided to go ahead and open my game up, otherwise I’ll just continue to world/campaign plan forever. So, first things first, if you’re reading this then perhaps you are looking for a new game to play in. Well, that’s a good thing because I’m in need of players. It has been awhile since I’ve played and my old group just does not play anymore. That’s okay though, because I don’t mind fresh players with fresh thoughts. I plan on using fantasy grounds, but more so for battle maps and other visual things for the players; it’s more of a supplement than anything else (probably because I still don’t fully know how to use it) If you’re willing to perhaps consider creating a character in my world then…

I enjoy a story driven, role-playing kind of game; with character stories and development at the forefront and combat right alongside it. I see this as long-term, at least I would like it to be. It’s why I’ve decided to keep my world persistently going should people want to drop, leave, or cannot play for other reasons. This way, if need be, new players can jump right in. Of course, I’d love for players that join to stay and have character development and show character growth/feelings/emotions/etc.

You can post here to let me know you’ve done so or if you have any questions. When creating a backstory all players will be beginning in the village of Kirklen. Kirklen is on the southernmost point of the Storm Coast. South of the city Tomira. It sits atop a bluff overlooking the sea, Kirklen is known for the salt mines that exist below the village/on the side of the bluffs. For some reason or another your character has ended up in Kirklen. Tell me why in the backstory part.

 So Key Points:

• Story-rich, character-drive, and role-playing
• Combat also included
• Homebrew world similar to that of the Forgotten Realms or Tal'Dorei
• Chill DM that enjoys playing, but is not perfect.
• Fun DM that enjoys his players having fun, but does not have fun with rules-lawyers (Just saying)
• Starting in village of Kirklen at level 1

*Please note that a more fleshed out backstory will be needed at some point if you are playing. I plan to make use of my players backstories throughout. The more information you can give me the better and I’m always happy to work with people on a background outside of this mini background, so that it fits seamlessly in.

I plan on leaving this open for a little while, so that it gives people enough time if they are interested. I also welcome groups of friends signing up and intertwining their backstories.

I've gotten some replies already, thank you for those who are interested so far. Just a couple reminders.

1. The races and classes listed in the linked guide are the ones available to players. I plan on using only the PHB for character creation; at least this time around. This includes feats and backgrounds

2. Will I be allowing non-consensual pvp between characters? No.

3. Again, if you have a question about the setting, you can always message me and I will help you if it helps you flesh out your character.

 Quick question(s) about the use of Fantasy Grounds program, as I've never used it before, but I have heard of it.

1. Is it text-based, or do I have to use my mic and webcam? (I'd rather not have to do the latter if possible)

2. I understand to use Fantasy Grounds, it costs money, but from your first post, you are saying that if we have the free version, we should be okay? Just wanted to clarify.

Otherwise, this looks great, and I'd love to play.

1. It is both. But a mic would be the most I would require at the very least since we'll be doing role-playing through discord or skype depending on the majority of players that want one or the other. Fantasy grounds will mostly be used for battle maps, pictures of NPCs or locations, etc.

2. I have the ultimate license, so yes, if you (or anyone else) have the demo version then you'd be able to join just fine.

Alright, well, worth a shot. If it does end up mic-based, I probably won't be able to do it (for...reasons), but it can't hurt to see where this goes. Reading all the background on your homebrew to get inspired for a character.

Do you allow any variants (human variant/Background, i.e. Gladiator instead of Entertainer) as long as they're in the PHB? Sorry if that's addressed, I didn't see it mentioned anywhere
