I'm Ahrea (they/them) and I'm looking to play a BardLock Changeling called Dei. Here is their Backstory, if you think it would fit in your campaign (or have any questions) please let me know :D
[Parts I have left in square brackets are to hopefully help Dei fit into any world - I am more than happy to create them myself :D]
Backstory
At the age of 7, Dei’s home (The Eternally Wandering Gala - a small nomadic entertainment clan in the Feywild) was attacked and destroyed.
[Dei is unaware of who attacked, beyond [description of Face Stealer(s)/Faction + Hazy memories of the “Cellar”] - But the attacker’s could be either the Face Stealer(s) or a faction in alliance with the Face Stealer(s)]
Dei was taken away and kept entrapped by their attackers, tortured and kept barely alive for months - Occasionally given false hope of escape, planted by their captor(s).
Until…
When the promise of escape became available to them, they no longer chased it.
Their cage would be left open, yet they would not move from it.
The pain came and they no longer whimpered nor screamed, they merely waited for it to cease.
Then one night, they did not come with their Instruments of Pain…
Their captor(s) spoke of freedom…
All they had to do was mimic the face of a child - who’s photo they were shown - and say to “their parents” that they’d got lost and didn’t remember what happened.
Then they could live with “their parents”...
…as long as they didn’t try to escape, to leave “their parents”, as long as they didn’t get found out as false…
They would be able to live a quiet life.
Dei did as they were told, not believing that freedom would be there, but not wishing to incur their captor’s wrath.
5 years later…
Dei (now age 13) has been living the life of [child name] with "their parent(s)" [ask DM for parent + child name] for the past 5 years.
They have grown comfortably into the quiet life, the nightmares and fear that one day they would be taken back, that this freedom was another hoax has lessened.
They work on the farm, near the coast, with their parent(s), not wanting to leave the farm (for fear of their captors thinking that Dei was trying to escape).
Their parents for the past 5 years have been fine with this, not wanting to send [child name] out of fear of them losing him/her again.
But now, at the age of 13, their parents wish to help them get over their fear so that when they’re older they’ll be able to leave the farm and live their own life.
So they attempt to persuade [child name] to come with Father to the next Market, to help sell their produce.
Dei breaks down in tears, begging them not to send him/her.
2 years later…
Dei (now aged 15) comes in from the farm one day to discover a strangely dressed individual sitting at the table with “their parents”.
That individual is explained to be a Wizard, who their parents have paid to try and help [name] remember and move on from “being lost” - which to this point [name] has still stated that he/she doesn’t remember.
Dei internally freaks out, not wanting the Wizard to find out that they aren’t actually who they’re pretending to be - Fearing that with their discovery, their captors would return…
So, Dei pretends to go along with it. Feigning only slight trepidation, they ask if the ritual can happen in a special place that [name] likes, to help them feel safe and comfortable, the Wizard and parents agree.
Dei brings the Wizard to a set of cliffs that face out to sea and asks if they can sit for a while on the cliffs - whilst [name]’s nerves settle. The Wizard happily accommodates.
A few minutes pass and [name] says they’re going to go take a leak quickly and then they’ll be ready.
The Wizard offers [name] privacy to do so.
Then, with the Wizard no longer looking…
Dei casts Sleep on the Wizard, before pushing him off the cliff.
Dei then considers what to tell “their parents”.
If they say that the Wizard failed, then they would likely keep trying. Next time with a better, more powerful mage. They would also be more curious about his disappearance, wanting to know why it failed.
But, if they say that the Wizard succeeded, then they would have no excuse to not leave the farm - that fear of “escaping” still holding a tight, fearful grip on Dei’s mind. And they’d be less likely to question the Wizard’s disappearance, for joy of success would surely take their hearts.
If “their parents” kept bringing in better and better mages, eventually the truth would come out. It would be inevitable.
But…
If they left the farm with their parents, maybe their captors wouldn’t find out, maybe they wouldn’t care with so many years gone by. Maybe…
Maybe is better than inevitable.
So Dei returned to “their parents” saying that the Wizard had healed them and that they couldn’t wait to go to the market next time, couldn’t wait to leave the farm, couldn’t wait to see the rest of the world.
“Their parents”, so full of joy, did not ask if [name]’s memories had returned, nor what those memories were. They only celebrated that “their child” was free…
4 years later…
Whilst out at the Market, [name] left their parents' side briefly to wander the town, their fear of the Faction more subdued at this point, only to return to them (and nearby folk) slaughtered. In panic, Dei returns “home” to the farm. Now without the parents to whom they were assigned, they are uncertain of what to do.
What they could do:
Return to their Captor’s for fear of doing anything without their permission, now that their main charge (staying with “their parents”) has ended.
A slight fear also, that they’re parents death may have been a warning, a punishment for leaving their parents side, for “escaping”.
In doing so, their captors see the enormous loyalty - and in turn the enormous value - that Dei could have to them.
Dei then takes on an Archfey patron - at the Faction’s order - that is allied to the Faction or could be The Face Stealer themseves.
Dei then comes across the Party at the request/during an unrelated mission of the Faction.
2. They’ve not heard from their captors in a while, taking a chance, selling the farm and gathering their resources they leave.
Not long after, Dei happens upon the Faction and gets into an altercation that nearly kills them, but before they fall:
They call upon [positive Archfey patron] who their parents spoke about in bedtime stories, offering their life in servitude in exchange for the power to never have to serve the Faction again.
[positive Archfey patron] grants them this power and Dei manages to escape.
Ending up wherever the Party gathers with a brand new persona, just trying to get by making ends meet whilst avoiding The Faction.

Not looking for a paid game I'm afraid, but I wish you luck with finding players, and thanks for taking the time to respond.
