Tyranny of Dragons - A Character-Driven Sword Coast Campaign
Paid Online D&D 5e (2014) Campaign | 4–5 Players | New Players Welcome | Free Session 0
Welcome to the Sword Coast! Enjoy your stay. Just ignore the dragons in the skies and those pesky rumors about a growing cult.
Who Is Your DM?
Hello! My name is Sky. I’m 24 and have been playing Dungeons & Dragons for about 8 years, spending most of that time behind the screen as a Dungeon Master.
My games lean heavily toward roleplay, character development, player choice, and narrative storytelling.
To me, the characters are the heart of a tabletop RPG. I can write villains, build encounters, and plan storylines, but ultimately the campaign belongs to the party. Your characters, their relationships, their victories, their mistakes, and the decisions you make are what turn a campaign into something memorable.
I primarily run homebrew campaigns, but I also enjoy taking published adventures and reshaping them around the party—which is exactly what I’ll be doing here.
The Campaign - Tyranny of Dragons
Something is stirring along the Sword Coast.
Rumors spread of settlements being attacked, dragons appearing where they shouldn't, and a growing cult whose ambitions may threaten far more than a few isolated towns.
I'll be running a heavily customized version of Tyranny of Dragons.
The original adventure has a reputation for being fairly linear, so I've made significant changes to give the party more freedom and allow the campaign to respond naturally to your decisions.
Your backstories, allies, enemies, successes, and failures can influence where the story goes.
Some parts of the published adventure will remain intact, so I ask that players do not read the module ahead of time. Going in without spoilers will make the experience considerably better.
Players
I'm looking for 4-5 players.
New players are absolutely welcome, as are experienced players.
My goal is to create a table where everyone has opportunities to participate, roleplay, develop their character, and contribute to the larger story.
You don't need to be an amazing voice actor or know every rule in the Player's Handbook. You just need to be willing to participate, cooperate with the group, and help tell a good story.
Backstories Matter
Backstories are highly encouraged.
If you give me characters, rivals, family members, enemies, ambitions, fears, or unresolved problems, don't be surprised when some of them eventually find their way into the campaign.
Your character should generally fit within the Sword Coast/Forgotten Realms, but I'm flexible with established lore. If you've got an idea that doesn't perfectly fit, talk to me. I'm usually willing to work with players to find a way to make a concept belong in the world.
Your backstory also doesn't need to be a novel.
Give me enough to understand:
Who is your character?
What matters to them?
What do they want?
What might convince them to risk their life adventuring?
Is there anything or anyone from their past that might come looking for them?
My only major thematic restriction is no space-themed character concepts, as they don't fit the tone I'm aiming for with this campaign.
Why Pay to Play?
I put considerable preparation into my campaigns both before and between sessions.
That includes custom encounters, maps, story development, character backstory integration, NPCs, homebrew material, and adapting future sessions around the decisions the party makes.
I also regularly ask my players for feedback. If something isn't working, I want to know. If something is working particularly well, I want to know that too.
Paid games also help create something especially important for a long-term campaign: consistency.
Online campaigns can fall apart when players frequently join, disappear, or leave without warning. That's particularly difficult for the kind of game I run because player characters become woven into the larger story.
I'm looking to build a committed table where we can develop these characters and this story together over the long term.
The game itself will cost $12 per session.
Session 0 Is Free
Session 0 is completely free.
We'll use it to meet each other and discuss:
Character concepts
Campaign expectations
House rules
Boundaries and uncomfortable topics
Party dynamics
Scheduling and attendance
What everyone wants from the campaign
Most importantly, it gives everyone a chance to determine whether we're a good fit before committing any money.
If you already have a character concept, bring it! I'm happy to work with you during Session 0 or over Discord afterward to make your character feel like they naturally belong in the campaign.
What We'll Use
D&D Beyond - Character creation, character sheets, sourcebook sharing, and homebrew content.
Roll20 - Maps, encounters, combat, and visual aids.
Discord - Voice chat and our main hub for communication between sessions.
Interested?
If you're looking for a character-driven, roleplay-focused campaign where your backstory matters and your decisions can genuinely influence the adventure, you're welcome at my table.
Send me a message and tell me a little about yourself:
Name/what you'd like to be called: Age: D&D experience: What do you enjoy most about D&D? What are you looking for in a campaign? Do you already have a character concept? Anything you'd like me to know before we play?
You don't need a completed character before contacting me.
