An Extended & Modified Rime of the Frostmaiden Adventure
Wrestle with factions, fight a demigod and deal with the aftermath of your decisions! Play up to level 20 and follow a continuation in the wake of The Long Night!
Level 3 | 🔹Hexcrawl 🔹Survival 🔹 Heavy Roleplay
In the farthest reaches of the Forgotten Realms lies Icewind Dale, an expansive tundra riddled with danger, buried secrets, factions vying for control over the region, and a powerful demigod holding it all within her grasp.
Auril, goddess of winter, has trapped Icewind Dale in an endless night of ceaseless snow and biting cold. Ten-Towns and the goliath clans struggle to survive, something stirs beneath the mountains, and roaming barbarian tribes are slowly being pushed toward extinction.
If that wasn’t enough, reports have come in of beasts imbued with a strange, obsidian-like substance terrorizing the good folk of the Dale, while Auril’s faithful push into settlements, seeking to bring the people of the Dale into her fold.
Will you brave the frozen tundra of Icewind Dale for your own means, or save the region from certain doom?
In this adventure , your choices will lead you to:
🔹 Explore ancient Netherese ruins steeped in necrotic magic
🔹 Forge alliances with towns, clans, and rival factions
🔹 Uncover the mystery and implications of spreading Chardalyn corruption
🔹 Challenge a demigod and put an end to the endless winter
🔹 Follow rumors into the frozen wilds in search of lost settlements, hidden lairs, and things best left buried beneath the ice
Played Rime of the Frostmaiden Before?
You’re still safe to join. Familiar characters, factions, and locations remain, but their roles, motives, and outcomes may have changed.
The Long Night combines Rime of the Frostmaiden, Adventurers League content, Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, and original homebrew material into a much larger campaign with a very different beginning and direction.
You begin in Luskan: a port city on the northernmost part of the Sword Coast. Having paid heavily for passage north through the Spine of the World. Your expedition leader Hadrik is preparing the last caravan into Icewind Dale before the pass closes for the winter.
"Bring me a character with a thirst for adventure and I'll give you a world worth exploring"
Quick update: I’ve adjusted a few of the available game days and times in the original post.
Since I’ve also had a few people ask what makes Icewind Dale: The Long Night different from a standard Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign, I wanted to clarify that a bit.
This version begins in Luskan, with the party preparing to join an expedition north into Icewind Dale on the cusp of winter. From there, the campaign places a much heavier focus on the Goliath clans, chardalyn, the Arcane Brotherhood, survival, exploration, and the factions competing for influence across the Dale.
The campaign also continues all the way to Level 16-20. Auril and the endless winter are a major part of the story, but they are not necessarily the end of it. The later campaign deals with the consequences of the thaw and with things that were probably better left buried beneath the ice.
Characters, locations, and events from the original adventure still exist, but many have had their roles expanded, altered, or tied more directly into the larger story.
