I've been DM'ing for a few years. So often than not, I'm the DM of choice because I can come up with some awesome stuff of the cuff - I'm not bragging (seriously),
Anyway, I've got lots of player experience, but it's only tabletop. This play by post stuff has me at a loss. Fear not, fellows! I can learn!
I'm looking for a group that's will to allow me the time to get my feet wet with this play by post concept as a player. Mature player able/willing to role play any contingency needed to propel the story forward thoughtfully.
Any campaign setting open to me. If I don't know it, I can learn. Favorites are things that lean toward Dark Souls type gameplay, tough encounters, puzzles, and "out of the norm" type of campaigns.
DM's! Hit me up!

I would hope that there are more stories that make it to the end here than fall short. I haven't been looking around much, but many of the posts seem to gaining momentum pretty well. I could come up with something. I actually have a 4 part story that's very dark souls like that my group loved. Only thing is, I'd need a player base that's willing to work with a DM new to pBp.

Looking to play, im kinda new but kinda not new, i used to play a lot with friends a decade ago but i was young and i didnt rember everything so ive been brushing up on the handbook and critical role and i feel pretty comfortable. I have a 1 year old that i watch by myself all day so pbp would be ideal for me lol
How is this as a way to start? Name, race, class, and background?
Abraxas Onassis is a half-elf wizard born and raised by Avowed parents at Candlekeep. He was extremely happy there and would have followed after his parents, becoming a Sage. However, one day his father appeared covered with dust from the oldest catacombs under Candlekeep and held a large tome, covered with tiny skulls and the face of a balor. His father wanted the book kept a secret, but Abraxas saw it, watched as the book withered plants and warped his father’s mind. Within a ten-day, his father slaughtered most of Abraxas’s family and himself. The book disappeared. Abraxas’s obsession with magic generally and powerful magic texts specifically began. Now, he works to fund his research and searches for enough magical knowledge to find and destroy the book that killed his family.
I’ve never heard of pbp but it sounds interesting. Any way I can get in on a game? Also to learn the ropes. I just started with 5e recently but was a long time player of 3.5 and pathfinder.
I'd be up for a short game Perzival! It'd give me a good basis to learn play by post as a player, then maybe I can get into actually DM'ing one. The recent story I wrote about is a dark souls type level 12 to 20 going through a realm of death and rebirth to find the machine at the heart of it all. It's got vague lore, dark sarcastic NPC's and very tough unforgiving fights. Only for small groups though. I'd love to give it a go after getting some of the basics down.
Got any good short intro stories that could help a newbie like myself (and looks like some others as well)?

Hi! I am looking to learn dnd and would be very interested in a play by post group. Although I have never played dnd, I have experience as a role played in the play by post format. I look forward to learning more.
Well, if nobody wants to DM, I would consider taking a stab at it. I’ve got my one shot already planned out. I’d need a max of 3 players. Keep in mind I’d be really new to play by post so if there’s an experienced player that could help with rolls and all that stuff I’d greatly appreciate it.

Nice. Start at 10 (since I’ll probably have three of you). No items except what you’re wearing. However, you do get to choose one item (no weapons/hand carried armor) to have on your person. Item can be a minor benificial item. Run it by me if y’all have questions on it.
Stats however you want.
Later today I’ll get the campaign up on the site and start sending invites. Only three slots open. dndpro, you have the first. Two slots left.
Background story wise - think of a way that your character would come to be on a ship at sea crossing a large body of water from one continent to another; a reason for leaving where you were. Imagine that you’re all from the same continent. You can or cannot know each other. It doesn’t matter.
DM advice on background for this: don’t focus too much on your background. It doesn’t play into the story heavily for reasons that will become apparent as you play through it.

“We’ve been trapped for too long. Trapped by the machine. It hoards us. Controls us. We become its slaves.”
The Machine is something that is a part of this realm, makes up the realm, and feeds off of it. The denizens are slaves to it as it consumes their very essence. They are then reborn as a new “self” and the process repeats. Their emotional capacity and intellect are intact, but they must suffer over and over. However, over time, many begin to forget who they are and why they're here.

background: sailor, Odysseus is eager to explore new lands. He has a strange link to the gods (paladin) , he is rational unless he really looses patience
Nice dndpro. Good to go. Look forward to seeing you in the game.

DM hit me up as well,
I learned to play in this PbP and it is funny, I really would like to see an adventure/campaign going though, no matter the pace.
For time reasons I cannot be the DM but if you find one, I am more than willing to join

Most of my experience is tabletop as a player, but I'd like to try PBP.

After looking at Odysseus, just make sure to remove all but the common clothes. Thanks.
Oh, but choose one benificial trinket/item to have on you.
