THE TL:DR -
Hey there! First off, thanks for taking a glance. We’re an established group of 3 friends who are looking for a DM that is interested in or shares a passion with us for intensely character/narrative driven D&D campaigns! You’ll be able to find a lot of our interests and ideas below, as well as a bit about us!
The things we enjoy collectively:
We’d love to find someone who shares our passions! As individuals, we each enjoy somewhat different things, but as a group, these are the things that we can share, and the kind of settings and themes we’d be very interested in - these are our common ground, but there is definitely wiggle room!
Grounded fiction and fantasy. Based or with reference to real or historical themes and ideas and usually fairly human-centric, these are the kinds of settings all of us could thrive in.
Low magic. We adore magic and fantasy, but we want these things to feel very special. Magic in low-magic campaigns feels truly amazing, or dangerous, and has much more impact than if every guard in every city, somehow, knows spells.
Homebrew in general. We want a world and setting that is yours to flesh out and ours to experience, not something that thousands of other people have just been ran through.
Storytelling and character focus. We are all people with experience in storytelling, whether writers or artists or DMs or avid RPG players. We want the focus to be on a cinematic experience, although rules are still important.
Mature and/or serious content. Dark and/or sexual themes are a good way to keep a setting serious. This doesn’t have to be excessive, but it does set a theme.
Choices! We’d love to use classes/subclasses from the supplements, unearthed arcana, and even Mercer’s stuff.
Narrative over Combat, or Narrative-Driven Combat. We want combats to either support story or be driven by it.
Lethality. We don’t want a brutal game, however we want stakes to be high, this includes outside of combat as well.
Player-driven sandbox. We would really like to have a fleshed out, detailed world with realistic NPCs where there are story hooks generated around or by the characters and their decisions that we can choose to follow if we see fit. These story arcs, places, and NPCs should be open-ended enough to react or change based on character choices. (I.E. no scripted endings.)
Any system works. We’ve just settled on 5e as a base/example because everyone is familiar with it.
We came up with some ideas of settings we’d really enjoy, to hopefully inspire the right person with similar ideas or as a good jumping-point if you’d want to adopt one of them! All of these are historic settings with monsters and magic and mostly human - we would probably have to homebrew nationalities as the races for starting stats. Our preference is somewhat serious, gritty and even dark, but not in the 40k way - excessive violence isn’t the only way to make a setting sinister.
Gothic Europe. A very typical dark historical fantasy setting with the occasional monster, undead issue, etc. Think Diablo 3, Penny Dreadful, the Witcher, etc.
American Colonial. A fantasy take on the settlement of America in which witches of the wilds really did exist, as well as various monsters and other happenings, as in conflict with the British. Think the setting of Assassin’s Creed 3, with some magic and monsters.
The Golden Age of Piracy. A historical fantasy take on pirates would be amazing. There’s too many examples to list for the setting, but the animated Sinbad, Pirates of the Carribean, and Black Flag are pretty good places to start.
Western. This is fairly straightforward, there’s no lack of wild west/settlement content out there. Add monsters and magic and the stakes would be delicious. Think Red Dead Redemption, or if you want a slightly different take on it, Oregon Trail. But, as the trend goes, with monsters’n’all.
About Us:
The first of us is our usual DM, who’s wanted to play with us as a player for quite a while. He’s 24 and avidly enjoys storytelling, as well as has an English degree. He writes in his free time, and currently works in the military.
The next of us is the second of the original duo who enjoys RPGs and gaming in his free time. He is the geezer of the group at 32 and works in laboratory informatics. Absolutely loves heavy metal music and has a beard that would make anyone jealous.
The third of us is a 25-year-old illustrator working through her amateur years, and in her free time she loves watching animated shows and movies and does a lot of horse training. She’s been the newest addition to the group. Things we don’t want:
We don’t want to save the world. Things are so much more interesting and in-depth for us if issues are personal, not global or universal.
Rules Lawyering. Even from a DM, we don’t want to be told ‘no’ all the time - let us be creative and while the rules matter, let us make decisions in our own way if it benefits the story more.
Too Much/Pointless Combat.
Leave a comment if you have any questions or PM me if interested!
Sounds like a fun well rounded group, not a DM but let me know if you guys want a +1 to the player party! Regardless I hope you guys find an awesome DM. HMU on here or discord. StrawHatlol#2750.
Little bit about me, 22 year old business, marketing, management student who enjoys gaming and animated series.
This game in particular is just going to be the three of us, but we're definitely going to be looking for people for other games our normal DM wants to do, if so I'll pop you a heads up!
Would love to DM for you! simply curious through what online medium the campaign would be played? I'm an experienced player and have some experience with DMing as well.

Thinking Roll20, but if you have a better alternative we would be willing to hear you out.
roll20 works was simply curious as to the platform we would be using
